3 ChoiWan-Teaching English to primary school learners The Chinese Rhenish church is similar to the South African Rhenish church in the way the service is held on a Sunday. The big difference is that we will normally have one service on a Sunday, where in The Chinese Rhenish Church they will have three which will be held at different times. The different youth fellowships I was able to be involved in has shown me that we face similar challenges in South Africa that they face here in Hong Kong. The love and closeness I experienced here in the churches reminded so much of home and warmed my heart. Greetings to everyone in the name of Jesus Christ. My six months in Hong Kong is closely drawing to an end. My experience in Hong Kong has had ups and downs, but I thank the Lord that there were more positive experiences than challenges. The first few months was challenging as the weather was hot and the humidity high and that was also an adjustment. Moving from one church to another and from one house hold to another also had its challenges as I needed to adjust to my new surroundings and find my bearings again. There was a language barrier at times and I tried my best to learn basic words in Cantonese, I also had a translator most of the time. The children took a while to open up to me as most of them were extremely shy but they opened up as time passed. I also experienced being home sick now and then but I knew that it was normal and that I would be okay. The culture and life style is very different to South Africa. The lifestyle is much faster and busier than I expected. The transport system is effi cient and I felt safe most of the time on the trains and busses, this is very different to South Africa. The food was an adjustment but I really enjoyed trying all the different fl avors, learning to eat with chopsticks and to not judge the food by its appearance. Most of the schools or community centers are run by religious organizations, this is also different to South Africa. I taught English in the community centers and shared my culture and background with the youth and Sunday schools in the Churches I worked in. The moments that stood out to me was the youth camp I attended, the South Asian and North Asian exchange program I was a part of, my visit to the church in China and the Rhenish Reunion where the three Rhenish churches from around the world came together to make the relationships between the three Churches stronger. Sharing my culture to the youth fellowships My Final report Teaching in Choi Wan center Greeting the South African pastors at the airport for the Rhenish Reunion in Hong Kong Tai Po Chinese Rhenish Church summer youth camp The experience that had the biggest impact on me was being able to talk and connect with the young people in the churches. To encourage them to trust God and know that He can use them to make a positive difference in this world. I thank the Lord for this once in a life time experience and I have grown so much as a person and in my spiritual life as well. Now I can return home with what I have learnt and sow it back into the Rhenish Church of South Africa. All glory to God.
