Candidate School of International Relations and Public Affairs Fudan University Shanghai China The Inheritance and Development of the Cantonese Ethnic Organizations in Cambodia Shihlun Allen CHEN Abstract The article is a pioneer ethnographic work on Cambodia's Cantonese ethnic organizations focusing on its ethnohistory status quo and development predicament. Based on Author 's intermittent ethnological fieldwork in Phnom Penh during 2013-2017 the historical making of the sub-ethnic community its current community structure organizational diversification and educational continuity of the local identity have been discussed respectively. On ground of Cambodia's colonial heritage ethnic hierarchy and current inner ethnic Chinese community structure the Author adapts a chronological analytical frame to understanding how sub-ethnic organizations situates and local identity is constituted within current socio-political environment. After introducing the operative details and development predicament of current 4 sub-ethnic organizations the article is concluded with the discussion on the empirical formation and theoretical approach of sub-ethnic and local identity application with Cantonese cases in Cambodia.
