Diarmuid: Well Jean, if I was in China I might need to find out lots of new information. For example, if I needed a taxi I could say: Excuse me, do you know where I can get a taxi? Jean: Excuse me. Do you know where I can get a taxi? 对不起, 你知道我能在哪里打到出租车吗? Diarmuid: Or if I wanted to be very polite and less direct I could say: Excuse me. Do you happen to know where I can get a taxi? Jean: Excuse me. Do you happen to know where I can get a taxi? 对不起, 请问你知道我能在哪里打到出租车吗? Diarmuid: Yes that s right Jean. We might also need to know how something works, for example, a vending machine. Jean: 还有的时候, 我们可能会因为不知道如何使用某样东西, 而需要请教别人 比如, 当你不知道该怎样使用自动贩售机时, 就会需要他人的指点 Diarmuid: So if I wanted to get a drink out of the vending machine I might say: Sorry to bother you. Diarmuid: That s right, and there could be many things written with Chinese instructions that a foreigner might need to ask about. For example: a telephone. Jean: Telephone 电话 Diarmuid: Television.
