Looking at the tiny fi sh caught, he wondered, Would I be able to catch much bigger ones if I went deep-sea fi shing? It was his curiosity that had driven the wish of Jeremy. And our Wish Granting team decided to set sail with Jeremy and his family. It s been a long time since we last saw Jeremy being so energetic. On the Wish Day, Jeremy was in full gear and got well prepared with his rod. He learnt the little secret of fi shing from a volunteer fi shing master and his uncle. He could not be more focused on the buoy until he saw an abrupt sway. Then he lifted up the fi shing rod without a second thought and he caught one! We were all lightened up by Jeremy s smile and excitement. Jeremy was having a good appetite, being so energetic and talkative in the restaurant, and this had impressed all his relatives, We have never seen him being so lively and joyful, and we felt so blessed that he had so much fun today. However, her condition did not allow her to visit her favorite wonderland after she fell ill. When our Wish Granters knew that she was going to have her bone marrow transplant surgery in two weeks, they decided to cheer her up even the preparation time was tight. On the Wish Day, Elise, together with her family members, enjoyed a buffet breakfast at Disneyland, where she had her favorite sausage and hash browns. Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Goofy joined the party with a cake and birthday presents and their best wishes for the little girl. After breakfast, Elise entered the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and turned into the beautiful Snow White with the help of Fairy Godmother-in-Training! The real Snow White, being the fi rst guest to visit our pretty princess, not only danced with Elise, but also led to sing a birthday song to her. It is a precious and unforgettable moment with the whole family before my daughter s surgery. Elise s parents thought it was indeed a praiseworthy day before the surgery. Co-organized by Hongkong Land, the event was celebrated with a launch ceremony that united people from different community sectors to bring hope, strength and joy to Wish Children. The launch ceremony was held on 26 November. Officiating guests included Mr YK Pang, Chief Executive of Hongkong Land; Prof Sophia Chan, Under Secretary for Food and Health; Mr Stephen Sui, Under Secretary for Labour and Welfare; Dr Donald KT Li, President, Hong Kong Academy of Medicine; Ms Susanna WY Lee, President, Hong Kong College of Paediatric Nursing; Mr Jacky Cheung, Renowned Artiste; Ms Louisa Mak, Ms Ada Pong and Ms Iris Lam, Champion, 1st Runner Up and Miss Friendship of 2015 Miss Hong Kong respectively. Our partnership with LANDMARK through Share the Joy of a Wish enables Make-A-Wish Hong Kong to realize many wishes of children in Hong Kong and Macau with life-threatening medical conditions, said Dr Kevin CH Lau, Chairperson of Make-A-Wish Hong Kong. All proceeds were dedicated towards making three children s wishes come true. 3
活動滙報 ACTIVITIES REPORTS 2015 聖誕聯歡會 Christmas Party 2015 承 蒙香港半島酒店連續十三年的贊助和支持 願望成真 基金再次於酒店舉行聖誕聯歡會 在12月5日與逾百 位願望童 其家人及義工們一起預祝聖誕 當天節目豐富 這邊廂願望童運用創意 用多款糖果裝飾砌出獨一無二的薑 餅屋 參加薑餅屋設計大賽 那邊廂魔術師接連表演多個魔 術 並請願望童上台參加演出 享用美食期間 沙畫師馬仔 表演助興 更即席授徒 與幾位願望童合力製作沙畫 酒店 員工更和小朋友大玩分組遊戲 令場內氣氛更熾熱 最後來 到整個活動的高潮 幸運大抽獎 多位幸運兒分別可以坐上 直昇機欣賞維港風光 乘坐勞斯萊斯房車回家 以及入住半 島酒店客房一晚 最後當然少不了聖誕老人即場大派禮物 F or the 13th year, Make-A-Wish Hong Kong organized the Christmas party with over 100 Wish Children, their families and volunteers at The Peninsula Hong Kong. The party was kick-started with a gingerbread house design contest in which each Wish Family decorated their unique dream houses with candies. There was a magic show with our Wish Children as performance assistants. While everyone was enjoying the festive lunch, Ma Chai the sand painting master captured the audiences attention with his magnificent skills. He got a few apprentices from our Wish Children who performed with him on the spot. After the table game Hit the Weight that required some intelligence to win, the most awaited lucky draw finally began. Lucky Wish Families got the chance to take a helicopter ride, be sent home in a Rolls Royce or stay at the hotel guest room for a night. The hotel built a life-size gingerbread house in the lobby as our charity sales counter for Christmas glass ornament and gingerbread cookie sets, plus the limited edition SnowPage plush toys. The fundraising campaign was also extended to other restaurants and bars in the hotel. The 22nd Floor of Hotel sáv Floor of Love features the work of over 20 talents under the theme of love. Make-A-Wish Hong Kong was excited to decorate our own Wish Room with the art pieces of three Wish Children, and spread the message of love and love-sharing. Part of the room revenues on this floor and from the art exhibition will be donated to Make-A-Wish Hong Kong. Fifty-five renowned celebrity ambassadors signed up to support the #JoyToYourWorld campaign, by releasing their photos and words of blessing on their own social media platforms. By following @DFSOfficial and liking posts tagged with #JoyToYourWorld, DFS customers helped Make-A- Wish Foundation International grant travel wishes to Wang-yau, a nine-year-old Wish Child from Hong Kong battling spinal muscular atrophy. Thirteen donation boxes were also placed in T Galleria by DFS stores around the world to collect donations. 5
義工園地 VOLUNTEER CORNER 義工活動年度回顧 美好時光笑聲中作結 Great Season Filled with Inspiring Volunteer Activities 這 季度我們與義工們一起度過了美好的時光 除了為新義工舉辦義工簡介會外 我們在兩次的雙 月義工訓練中 向義工介紹了如何用簡簡單單的紙 和幾枝顏色筆 引發無窮趣味 從而掌握與小朋友 相處的方法 在10月份的 紙想玩 工作坊 我們 不僅學習如何合作摺拼星星 更用紙做成花炮及手 槍 進行了一番激烈的比賽 希望日後義工們與小 朋友互動時 亦能就地取材 順利與小朋友建立關 係 12月份的 手繪心情 工作坊 我們讓大家一 嘗運用畫畫作為認識自己及他人的工具 11月舉辦的 聖誕小禮物工作坊 是一個新嘗試 我們與義工一起製作聖誕布藝掛飾 透過小手作直 接把愛心傳遞給小朋友 讓他們度過一個暖笠笠 懷抱願望的聖誕節 另外 我們於12月舉辦探訪義工訓練 向一班熱 切投入服務的義工深入介紹探訪隊的工作及角色 分享及講解搜集願望的實務流程 八位畢業的義工 已陸續進行實習並投入服務了 恭喜他們 如果大 家有興趣成為探訪義工 請密切留意我們未來的通 訊 為了感謝義工們一年來的付出 我們在剛過去的一 月邀請一班勞苦功高的義工參加年度義工聚會 請 你去 Ball 暗中作樂 當日大家一起到黑暗中對 話體驗館 經歷黑暗中的旅程 接著大玩人氣運動 POOLSOCCER 星際氣墊球 沙壺等遊戲 席上 我們分享了來年大計 並向義工送上感謝 狀 錯過了今次活動的朋友 下年記得要來啊 6 W e had wonderful memories with our volunteers last season. After learning the key facts about us at our two volunteer orientations, we brushed up our volunteers communication skills with children through the bi-monthly training programs, based on simple tools like papers and color pencils. Yes, we are referring to the Fun with Papers workshop in last October, during which we made a big star with team efforts! Participants then competed against each other by making the most genuine color crackers and pistols. It was hoped that our volunteers could easily break the ice with children by applying these skills. In December, we had the Draw Something projective drawing and self-understanding workshop, whereby our volunteers could have a deeper understanding of themselves and other people. A new attempt was made in last November. At the Seasonal Gift workshop, volunteers made fabric Christmas ornaments to send care and blessings to our Wish Children. As a volunteer, one will need to be well equipped with various skills, and also to have the chance to practice. This was the purpose of the Wish Granters training in last December. The eight graduates from the training session, who learned the techniques of wish catching, had actually started to visit our Wish Children. Stay tuned with our volunteer updates if you want to be part of it. To show our appreciation, we brought our volunteers to Dialogue in the Dark, and one of the hottest game cafes in town where we tried pool soccer, air hockey and shuffleboard in January. All volunteers received their service certificates on the day as well. For those who missed this annual volunteer gathering, be sure to join next year for other new excitements!
義 工 園 地 VOLUNTEER CORNER 為 願 望 童 行 動 Make a Joyful Noise 著 電 台 長 大 的 朋 友, 對 前 電 台 DJ Ben( 杜 浚 斌 ) 聽 的 名 字 一 定 不 會 陌 生 他 自 2008 年 起 已 成 為 我 們 的 探 訪 義 工, 更 多 年 來 義 務 擔 任 我 們 的 活 動 司 儀 我 平 時 沒 甚 耐 性, 唯 獨 對 兒 童 和 老 人 家 特 別 有 耐 心 那 時 我 在 電 台 工 作, 上 班 時 間 較 彈 性 我 就 想 可 不 可 以 用 工 餘 時 間 做 相 關 的 義 務 工 作 呢? 故 此 我 便 主 動 聯 絡 基 金 並 完 成 義 工 訓 練, 成 功 成 為 探 訪 義 工 到 後 來 知 道 基 金 正 在 為 籌 辦 的 活 動 聘 請 司 儀, 我 便 主 動 提 議 義 務 擔 當 司 儀 一 角, 一 做 便 做 了 很 多 年 我 探 訪 過 一 位 剛 完 成 癌 症 治 療 的 兒 童, 他 身 體 虛 弱, 仍 待 我 如 賓, 彬 彬 有 禮 席 間, 我 意 外 碰 到 他 疼 痛 的 身 體, 他 為 免 我 不 好 意 思, 忍 著 痛 不 說 出 口 看 到 這 我 心 裡 很 痛, 也 感 激 他 年 紀 雖 小 卻 已 懂 易 地 而 處, 自 此 時 刻 提 醒 自 己 探 訪 時 要 更 加 小 心 謹 慎 2009 每 次 擔 當 司 儀, 可 以 讓 更 多 人 了 解 願 望 童 的 故 事, 多 了 一 份 特 別 的 使 命 感 最 深 感 受 的 是 每 一 年 的 來 賓 們 不 論 輩 份 職 級 和 界 別, 全 都 單 純 地 出 於 善 心, 出 席 支 持 願 望 童 最 希 望 願 望 童 和 家 人 事 事 開 心, 願 望 成 真, 遇 到 困 難 也 可 以 堅 強 面 對 其 實 平 時 做 節 目 或 和 身 邊 的 朋 友 聊 天, 我 也 會 分 享 願 望 童 的 故 事 我 覺 得 香 港 人 有 心 有 力, 只 是 沒 時 間 踏 出 第 一 步 其 實 當 他 們 看 到 孩 子 願 望 成 真 的 開 心 和 笑 容, 便 知 道 付 出 的 都 是 用 金 錢 買 不 到 不 論 是 捐 款 成 為 義 工 參 與 活 動, 只 要 踏 出 第 一 步, 也 可 以 幫 到 這 班 患 有 重 病 的 小 朋 友 Anyone who is a radio lover will defi nitely know Mr Ben To, the former headlining DJ; yet you may not know Ben has been our Wish Granter and our volunteer Emcee since 2008. 1. How did you become our volunteer? I used to have more fl exible working hours at the radio station and it made me wonder if I could volunteer on children or elderly services after work, which are the two only things in the world that I don t lose my patience on. This was how I became a Wish Granter after fi nishing the training of Make-A-Wish Hong Kong. Then, I heard that they were recruiting Emcee for their events and so I proposed to be their volunteer Emcee thereafter. 2. What is your most unforgettable Wish Story? I visited a Wish Child who just fi nished his treatment. He warmly welcomed me with his kind heart. However, I accidentally touched his aching body during our talk. He didn t want to embarrass me and so he sat quietly with pain. On one hand, I appreciated a lot of his sensitivity and kindness; on the other hand, I felt so guilty of my carelessness. Since then I bear this in mind and keep reminding myself to be more cautious and attentive. 3. What do you feel about being our volunteer Emcee of Share the Joy of a Wish Launch Ceremony? It has been a unique experience for me to help spread the wish stories to the public. I feel amazed by the participants who have shown their support to the Wish Children and the Foundation purely from their generosity, no matter who they are or where they come from. 4. Any words for the Wish Families? Be happy, stay strong when facing adversity; and may their wishes come true! 5. How do you encourage your friends to support Make-A-Wish Hong Kong? I always share the wish stories at my work and with my friends. Hong Kong people seem to be too busy to take their fi rst step to give a helping hand. However, I am sure that they will realize it is priceless to see children s smile when their wishes come true. Making a donation, volunteering, participating in events you can help children with life-threatening medical conditions in any form! 環 球 願 望 故 事 World Wish Story 當 美 國 願 望 成 真 基 金 的 義 工 問 到 Lauren 心 中 最 想 實 現 的 事, 這 位 四 歲 的 小 女 孩 許 下 了 一 個 美 麗 善 良 的 願 望 她 想 貢 獻 來 自 紐 約 的 願 望 童 Lauren 因 為 身 患 癌 症 而 面 對 放 射 性 治 療 化 療, 以 及 單 靠 一 個 腎 臟 維 持 生 命 的 挑 戰 在 接 受 治 療 的 路 途 上, 親 人 贈 送 的 一 隻 兔 仔 毛 氈 一 直 陪 伴 著 Lauren, 給 予 她 鼓 勵 和 前 所 未 有 的 勇 氣 去 對 抗 病 魔 而 這 位 小 伙 伴 更 成 為 了 Lauren 這 趟 願 望 旅 程 中 的 小 主 角 經 歷 過 與 病 魔 的 對 抗,Lauren 明 暸 其 他 病 人 所 面 對 的 困 難 和 痛 苦 因 此,Lauren 希 望 藉 著 她 的 小 伙 伴, 鼓 勵 和 支 持 更 多 與 她 相 似 的 小 朋 友, 將 昐 望 毅 力 和 歡 樂 分 享, 讓 他 們 也 能 像 自 己 一 樣 勇 敢 小 兔 子 會 太 孩 子 氣 嗎? 他 們 會 喜 歡 這 份 禮 物 嗎? Lauren 憂 心 忡 忡 地 在 義 工 的 幫 忙 下 把 兔 仔 毛 氈 逐 一 送 到 較 她 年 長 的 小 朋 友 手 中 然 而,Lauren 的 一 切 緊 張 和 憂 慮 在 眾 人 燦 爛 的 笑 容 中 消 失 了! 每 一 顆 心 靈 都 被 Lauren 的 童 真 善 良 和 愛 心 塞 得 滿 滿 而 Lauren 的 願 望 故 事 也 提 醒 了 我 們 : 願 望 成 真, 不 只 為 願 望 童 帶 來 喜 悅, 更 能 夠 改 變 生 命 傳 播 愛, 觸 動 更 多 心 靈, 為 世 界 多 貢 獻 一 點 When Wish Child Lauren was asked by volunteers of Make-A-Wish Metro New York and Western New York about her one true wish, the 4-year-old little girl with a big heart decided to make a beautifully kind wish she wanted to give. Because of cancer, Lauren had to face the challenges of radiation treatments, chemotherapy and living with one kidney. On her road to recovery, a stuffed bunny blanket from her aunt and uncle always made her feel much better and gave her the courage to continue the fi ght. And this little friend of hers also gave birth to a very special wish I wish to give back comfort and hope. Having experienced the hardship of illness, Lauren understood what other patients were going through. Now she wished to spread positivity by delivering her little ally to other children patients in the hospital to encourage them, support them, and share with them hope, strength and joy! Are they too grown-up for a bunny? Do they like it?, Lauren was worried as she was offering the bunnies, guided by her helpers, to the older kids. However, there was clearly no doubt that every heart in the hospital was lightened up and warmed by Lauren s kindness. Lauren s wish story reminds us how powerful a wish could be a wish come true not only brings joy to the Wish Children, but can also change lives, spread love and inspire more giving. 7
主 席 隨 筆 Chairperson s Notes 年 伊 始, 首 先 祝 大 家 猴 年 進 步! 新 年 新 壹 氣 象, 相 信 大 家 都 會 有 各 種 大 計, 而 在 這 之 前, 先 讓 我 們 回 顧 一 下 去 年 願 望 成 真 基 金 在 2015 年 內 收 穫 甚 豐 我 們 團 隊 因 為 多 位 新 成 員 的 加 入 變 得 更 壯 大 ; 願 望 童 由 於 得 到 更 多 啟 發, 願 望 的 內 容 變 得 更 多 元 化 更 有 創 意 ; 我 們 與 公 司 伙 伴 們 合 作 更 加 緊 密, 並 得 到 社 會 各 界 好 友 在 時 間 人 力 資 源 和 財 政 上 的 支 持, 為 願 望 童 帶 來 更 豐 盛 的 願 望 歷 程 新 一 年 將 會 有 新 的 挑 戰, 但 有 您 與 我 們 同 行, 一 起 以 願 望 童 的 福 祉 為 基 本, 我 們 必 定 可 以 為 他 們 帶 來 盼 望 毅 力 及 歡 樂, 同 時 為 社 區 帶 來 更 多 正 能 量 且 讓 我 們 在 2016 年 緊 記 邱 吉 爾 的 名 言 : 每 天 你 都 會 有 進 步, 每 進 一 步 都 會 有 成 效 但 是 你 面 前 的 路 總 在 伸 延, 總 在 向 上 攀 升, 總 在 改 進, 而 你 亦 知 道 你 永 遠 都 走 不 到 盡 頭 不 過, 這 非 但 不 會 令 你 氣 餒, 反 而 會 增 加 你 攀 登 時 的 樂 趣 和 自 豪 感 Happy Year of the Monkey! I hope you celebrated the start of the new year in good spirits with family and friends. Before we look ahead and think about what this year may bring us, let s have a quick look back. 2015 was quite a year for all of us at Make-A-Wish Hong Kong. We took significant steps to bring in new talents for the team. We inspired our Wish Children to come up with more creative and unique wishes, and enriched these Wish Journeys through deeper engagement with corporate partners and people from other sectors in the community, who contributed their time and talents, plus monetary support. The year ahead will bring its own challenges but I am sure by joining hands with you, focusing on the benefits of our Wish Children, we can bring hope, strength and joy to them, and also much positive energy for the community as a whole. In 2016, let s always remember the wise words from Winston Churchill. Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey.
