2 By Senior Pastor Prince Guneratnam Imagine two students studying for their exams. The first student believes doing his best and trusting God as his future depends on God. The second student believes doing whatever it takes, for his future depends on his grades only. That night as they both studied, they receive a visitor who somehow managed to get a copy of the exam. Both students are Christians and know that cheating is wrong. Which one will have the most difficult time overcoming the temptation to cheat? The answer is simple, the one who does not depend on God to be the source of his future success. Your source will determine your course. Who you love and obey in your life becomes the motivating factor and will determine your course. This principle applies to many areas of life. For example, when a working man makes his job the source of success and fulfilment, then that governs his life. God, his family and health is neglected. Similarly, a Christian who looks at marriage as the source of peace and happiness will be willing to marry outside of his faith. Likewise, those who live a godless life will have sinful lifestyles and be unethical, even though they know what they do is wrong and sinful scripturally. When God is our source, He can and will supply all our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). Adam and Eve were tempted to be a god to themselves in the Garden of Eden. The Bible says, Then the serpent said to the woman, You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate it. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate (Genesis 3:4-6). Their outcome would be comical, if it wasn t such a serious outcome. The Bible says, Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, Where are you? So he said, I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself (Genesis 3:7, 9-10). They were supposed to be like God but instead, felt ashamed and could not cover themselves adequately. They experienced fear and hid themselves. Do not be deceived by false promises, the glitter of this world and its temptation to trap you from freedom to live, love and serve the God of our salvation. The search for security, success and contentment has not stopped. People are still being deceived by the devil who comes to steal, kill and destroy. For example, having a good education and job is fine but when you see them as your source of contentment, you fail to understand that God is your creator and has your best interests. You will never know real contentment apart from God. Having a wealth of knowledge of God s Word is one thing, obeying God s Word is another. Using the analogy of the switch, you can be plugged in, but not turned on, meaning you may be a Christian but denying the power of God (2 Timothy 3:5) to live in freedom over the lust of the flesh, the eye and the pride of life (1 John 2:15-16). Example of two biblical characters who chose other than God as their source in life: God gave great victory to Joshua over the battle of Jericho but Achan was tempted by the spoils of war and took them although the Lord had forbidden it to be taken but destroyed. As a result, Achan lost his life (Joshua 7;1; 20-21, 24-25). 2

3 God gave King Saul victory over the powerful Amalekites but he yielded to the temptation of fame and fortune by disobeying God s instruction (1 Samuel 15:18-19). As a result, Saul lost his position as King (1 Samuel 15:23). The call to freedom is to obey God s Word to direct your course. Like the song says, On Christ the Solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand. God s Word is a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). The Bible says, lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices (2 Corinthians 2:11) and Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him (James 1:12). FIVE MISCONCEPTIONS OF TEMPTATION 1. To be tempted is a sin. The truth is, to be tempted is not a sin. It is when you yield to temptation, that you have sinned. The Bible says, For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:4-5). Just because you have impure thoughts does not mean you have to obey them. Our responsibility is to reject such thoughts. You have the authority to cast down any such thoughts. It has been said, you can t stop the birds flying over your head but you can stop them from making a nest. You can have the victory by bringing your thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. 2. Spiritually matured people are not harassed by temptations. It does not matter how spiritual you are, temptation will always be part of the believer as long as he desires to be Christlike. No one is free from temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13). 3. When you have victory over temptation, you will have victory over that temptation forever. For example, if you have victory over alcoholism, it does not mean that you will not be tempted 3 again in that area. Satan is persistent. Similarly, people who overcame immoral lifestyle, need to be watchful and not yield to temptation when the enemy hits during unsuspecting moments. 4. We fall into temptation. This is not true. For instance, nobody just wakes up and falls into adultery. Nor does one get up one day and goes out and commit murder. The Bible says, But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren (1 James 14-16). There are four steps to sinning, clearly brought out here. It begins with desire (planted by Satan), and when it is conceived, there comes the meditation and planning and when it is put into action, it is sin and it destroys. No one just falls into temptation. Sin is always a choice. It is something that you are aware about and you decide to sin against God. 5. God is displeased when you are tempted. On the contrary, the Bible says, Count it all joy when you fall into various trials (James 1:2). When faced with temptations, it is an opportunity to know God, His ways and learn to trust in Him. God allows you to be put to test, so you can grow, mature and know how to conduct your life according to His ways. Thus, do not be afraid of temptation, or be negative when temptation comes your way. The Bible says, knowing the testing of your faith produces patience (James 1:3) and that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honour, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:7). AVOID THE DANGER ZONE Living the Christian life is to live in God s freedom. The Bible says, Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed (John 8:36). But there are some things that are not wrong, but unwise. Some Christians use the line of reasoning, since it is not wrong, to engage in them. We need to be

4 alert to the danger of doing such things; because they can enslave us (1 Corinthians 6:12). PAUL S ADVISE TO THOSE WHO SAY SINCE IT IS NOT WRONG 1. Live Like A Wise Man Paul says, So be careful how you live. Don t live like fools, but like those who are wise (Ephesians 5:15). The approach is not questioning what is right or wrong. Instead ask, Is it wise to do it? A wise person stays as far away as possible from that which can hurt and destroy him eventually. Three things about the wisdom of God: Wisdom does not rationalise. Wisdom makes decisions in the light of the past and its present weakness. Wisdom always considers the future. 2. Be Careful How You Live To be careful is to examine and test every opportunity. Do not judge things by its cover. Evaluate the issues and do not be in a hurry. Take a long-term view. 3. Seize Every Opportunity Paul says, Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days (Ephesians 5:16). 4. Know God s Will The Bible says, Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is (Ephesians 5:17). It is God s will that we glorify Him through living victoriously. Paul says, And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don t copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect (Romans 12:1-2) 5. Get God s Help The Bible says, Don t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). To be filled with the Holy Spirit is to let the Spirit empower you to obey and do the will of God (Acts 1:8). 文 : 古纳南主任牧师 6. Be A Worshipper To worship is to serve. You cannot be a worshipper and not serve. Jesus said to the devil, You must worship the Lord your God and serve only Him (Luke 4:8). The Bible says, Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 5:19-20). 7. Fear God The Bible says, Submitting to one another in the fear of God (Ephesians 5:21) and The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10). When we want to live a victorious Christian life, live in the fear of God. It is wonderful to know that God has called us to freedom to live, love and serve. He cares for us and wants to bless us so we can fulfil His plan and purpose. The Bible says, If you will only obey me, you will have plenty to eat (Isaiah 1:19). THE WONDER YEARS AT CALVARY Calvarites love and respect their pastors and growing up I have been the happy recipient of love, care and prayers of the Calvary family. It has been a privilege to be their Senior Pastor s daughter. When I was little, my brother and I received so many presents at Christmas we could have opened a toyshop. As we grew up, our children s church teachers, Missionette sponsors, Ranger commanders and youth leaders who served alongside my parents not only taught us God s Word but more importantly lived it out as examples we could follow. Every one of our pastors and some of our staff have committed their lives to God and I have witnessed them live out their calling with fidelity. I believe some of the finest people on the planet serve in Calvary Church. I have been very blessed to grow up among them and now serve with them. When I was about 12, a desire began in me to have a ministry in the church that would help people in need. When I graduated with my degree in Counseling at 24, I was grateful that Calvary gave me the opportunity to start a church based community counseling center, one of the first in Malaysia. They took a chance on a young person's dream and today hundreds of people have been blessed by this ministry. I am privileged to serve with both lay and professional counselors, psychologists and volunteers who serve people in need through Calvary Life Ministries (CLM). One of my first friends when I came to Calvary Church as a three year old was Evie Lee and her brother Christopher. Their father was a deacon in the Church and so we grew up together going to leaders retreat, church camps, revival meetings and two services (morning and evening) every Sunday. Ever since I met Chris I liked him and have never stopped. It is now a joy to be his wife. The teachings and values of the Church have shaped us into who we are today and have provided a shared a solid foundation for us in our life together as a couple and in raising our family. We feel very grateful that we have also been able to raise our own three children in Calvary Church and that they too have had the opportunity to be blessed and be a blessing to the Church. 6 A HOUSE OF PRAYER & HUMILITY My earliest memory of Calvary Church dates back to I was living abroad at the time and my late brother used to live near what I thought was a taukeh s house (Malay term, from Min Nan language, which means boss). Only then I was told that it was actually a Church. However, I only began attending Calvary in 1985 when I was back to Kuala Lumpur for good and was invited by Leslie and Esther Abraham to come over. A young Prince Guneratnam and even younger Pastors Peter and Steven were my first encounters and it was such an encouraging experience. I eventually came forward for water baptism and then became a member. I used to help out in the visitors lounge where little Azalea Lee and Darren Yong would help themselves to the biscuits after church! Later on, I also served in a Committee related to the expansion and move to Calvary Convention Centre (CCC). What I can say is that despite the good and the bad times, the Church has done a tremendous job. In humility, they have never shouted out their accomplishments nor did the Church respond to naysayers, yet giving glory to God at all times. It is because of this and God s guidance and a congregation who prays, Calvary has found favour and has grown from strength to strength. Personally, the Church prayed fervently with my family and I, and I believe this was instrumental in the healing of my wife s cancer. My House will be a house of prayer, says the Lord, and it is this which will take Calvary Church to the next 50 years. This foundation of prayer has helped me with my own walk with God, at 87 years old. Dato Nelson Arputham THE FOUNDATION OF MY YOUTH It was in 1979 that my parents were posted to Kuala Lumpur when we were introduced to Calvary Church. I had a lot of fun learning in Carpenter s Workshop, attended Vacation Bible School during the year end school holidays and it was a great place to practice my English, having been brought up in a Chinese school. I got saved a few years later in the children s programme of the Leaders Retreat that my parents attended, in Fraser s Hill. I thank God for the opportunity to attend the Royal Rangers when the Church launched this ministry in The ministry taught me independence and the Eight Royal Rangers Code became the fabric of my life. Christ Ambassadors was also a great avenue for fellowship and support during the school years. Calvary Church gave me the Biblical foundation and equipped me with various skills to venture into areas that I have never thought of; life changing experiences from mission trips to Vanuatu, starting a campus church as well as leading the only Royal Rangers outpost in South Island while studying in New Zealand. Associate Pastor Richard Yun would often write me a postcard to encourage and keep me in prayer when I was away from home. I will forever be thankful to God for this foundation and the opportunity to give Him all the glory. Eddy Law 6

7 BUILDING OUR FAITH AND HOPE AT CALVARY It has been 25 years since we started attending Calvary in mid What we liked about Calvary Church was its Word-based foundation which has strengthened our own walk with the Lord. Our faith as a couple has risen tremendously through the years in this church. We are assured that God is always in our midst regardless of what we go through in life. In particular, we witnessed the struggles and triumphs when Calvary Convention Centre (CCC) was being built and how Senior Pastor Prince Guneratnam led us all with his unwavering spirit to focus on the Lord. On the day we all stood in the auditorium when he choked and said, We have finally arrived, we both had tears rolling down our cheeks. CALVARY CHURCH: A SECOND HOME TO MANY I accepted Christ as a young kid in Calvary Church and used to attend Church together with my sister and other family members. Calvary Church has been always been my church. It s like a second home to me, and especially Senior Pastors Prince and Petrina Guneratnam who are my spiritual parents all this while. It is because I felt like I belonged to Calvary Church that I decided to give my life to serve God at Calvary Church. Therefore, I joined the Church as a staff on 1 October 1982 serving and supporting the communication needs of the Church. This has been the best decision I have ever made. At that point, we were reminded about this scripture verse, Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. (Psalm 46:10) We know that the vision is not complete and the journey hasn t ended but yet have the hope that God will take us through it all, no matter what the journey. We are also assured that what the Lord has started will come to a glorious end and we can t wait to witness this. All glory to His Name! Christopher & Sharmila Rajaselvan The church has evolved since the day I came. I ve seen it through the first renovation in Damansara Heights until our move to Calvary Convention Centre (CCC). It has grown a lot from a small church to a big congregation today. God has been so good to us. To me, God is faithful, like Senior Pastor always tells us, He never shortchanges us, if we have faith in Him, God is always faithful to us, His children. Calvary Church is my home away from home. 8 Senior Pastor praying for all married men Playing the drums CHRISTMAS WORSHIP SERVICE CELEBRATING JESUS On Sunday, 24 December 2017 at Calvary Convention Centre (CCC), the service began with a vibrant performance by a band of drums playing Little Drummer Boy. The cast and worship team performed an exciting shadow dance re-enacting the night Christ was born, punctuated wonderfully with a variety of carols and worship songs. Senior Pastor Prince Guneratnam s message then provided us with seven biblical reminders why Jesus is the Good News that brings Great Joy. By Sharon Tan Firstly, we celebrate Jesus because He is our mediator who has come to pay the price for our sins (1 Timothy 2:5). It is only in Him can we find forgiveness (Acts 13:38). And in Acts 4:12, we know that He is our Saviour and Salvation is found in no one else. The life given to us through Jesus is an abundant, rich and satisfying one (John 10:10). Because we are sinners, He is our High Priest, Intercessor, and Advocate who pleads our case before the Father (Hebrews 4:14-15). Senior Pastor then prayed for all married men at the altar, urging them to take their place as priests in their homes and celebrate Jesus in their homes on Christmas Day. After the service, Calvarites then proceeded to a time of fellowship and lunch at the CCC Plaza where a variety of cuisine from food trucks, beverages and desserts were offered. Indeed, it was a wonderful day celebrating Jesus! 10 Senior Pastor sharing an inspiring message Woshipping the Lord A Rejoicing Year End Thanksgiving Service It was the morning of New Year s Eve at Calvary Convention Centre (CCC) where many Calvarites were seen in fellowship over breakfast before our Year End Thanksgiving Service started. At 9.30am, songs of praise and thanksgiving filled the auditorium as the congregation were led into a time of worship. We were blessed with two special numbers presented by both the choir and the Kids Creative Arts Team (KidsCAT). After that, was a time of praise reports, as different Ministry Heads took turns to give thanks to God and share how their ministries have been blessed in Indeed, we were greatly encouraged and challenged to see greater growth in our ministries for the upcoming year. 11 The worship team leading in worship Senior Pastor Prince Guneratnam then introduced the church theme for 2018, Called to Freedom Live Love Serve (Galatians 5:13). He highlighted Romans 6:15-22, which speaks of God s grace that has set us free from sin. Therefore, we are no longer slaves to sin but we are to give ourselves to righteous living. The freedom that was given to us propels us to live, love and serve the Lord wholeheartedly. also acknowledged leaders and fulltime staff that have served for more than ten years. We esteemed Cheong Pui Ling and Associate Pastor Peter Ong, who have dedicated 40 years of their lives serving in Calvary Church. The church We rejoice for what God has done the past year and look forward to what He will do in 2018! As Calvary Church celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, our deacon, Puan Chen Keck presented the launch with a celebration video. The service concluded with the sharing of testimonies by Calvarites, as they remembered God s faithful hand and the prayers He has answered. 12 CALVARY CHURCH Faithful SERVICE AWARDS Congratulations to the following whose faithfulness in service was recognised at the Year End Thanksgiving SERVICE ON SUNDAY, 31 december 2017 at Calvary Convention Centre. CHURCH STAFF Cheong Pui Ling - Senior Confidential Secretary to Senior Pastor s office 40 Years Thanksgiving Testimony I am greatly humbled and honoured to receive this recognition. I did not make the journey here alone. I am grateful to God for His love, grace and mercy, His faithfulness and goodness upon my life and the privilege given to serve Him in Calvary Church. It s been 40 years since I started my full time service in 1977 and I d never imagined I would become a Secretary. I had a desire to be in full time ministry shortly after I have accepted Christ. The opportunity came when Senior Pastor Prince Guneratnam had a vacancy in his office. He graciously accepted me though I was unqualified and was willing to train me. My appreciation to Senior Pastor Prince Guneratnam for his guidance and mentoring that impacted and influenced me to be the person I am today. To Senior Associate Pastor Petrina Guneratnam, for her counsel, love, and prayers for me always. They are amazing examples of being totally committed to the call of God. To fellow staff members, for their assistance and encouragement in one way or another. And not forgetting my family for their love and support. I live by the verses of Colossians 3:17, 23-24, And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. The Lord has blessed me beyond my imagination and there is great satisfaction in serving and doing the will of God. Pastor Peter Ong Hock Hye - Associate Pastor 40 Years Thanksgiving Testimony I thank Father God for His calling to serve Him and giving me the opportunity to do this in Calvary Church. I was saved in Calvary when I was 11 years old and it was here that I answered the call to serve the Lord full time. 12

13 I offer my sincere thanks to our Senior Pastors Prince and Petrina Guneratnam for this privilege and honour to have served with them. In my 40 years of service, they have faithfully led, guided and encouraged me. LAY LEADERS Keeping my eyes and heart fixed on Jesus Christ has spurred me in these 40 years because He said In the world you will have tribulation. But be of good cheer. I have overcome the world. Truly He has been the Way, the Truth and the Life. God the Holy Spirit has always been my faithful Helper, Counsellor and Comforter as it is through Him that I can fulfil the call to serve. Leong Oi Wah - Calvary Kids 25 Years And finally, my Heavenly Father is a faithful promise keeper and He never disappoints. This Scripture continues to inspire and motivate me. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labour in the Lord is not in vain. (1 Corinthians 15:58) I will always serve Him, because He has blessed me and I want to bless others so they will love and serve Him too! 14 OLEH PENDITA KANAN Prince Guneratnam Bayangkan dua pelajar belajar untuk peperiksaan mereka. Pelajar pertama percaya dalam melakukan yang terbaik dan percaya kepada Tuhan kerana masa depannya bergantung kepada Tuhan. Pelajar kedua percaya melakukan apa sajapun, kerana masa depannya bergantung pada markahnya sahaja. Malam itu apabila mereka sedang belajar, mereka menerima seorang pelawat yang telah mendapat satu salinan kertas peperiksaan. Kedua-dua daripada mereka adalah orang Kristian dan mereka tahu penipuan adalah salah. Yang mana mempunyai masa yang paling sukar untuk mengatasi godaan untuk menipu? Jawapannya senang, pelajar yang tidak bergantung pada Tuhan sebagai sumber kejayaan masa depannya. Sumber kamu akan menentukan haluan kamu. Prinsip ini ada dalam banyak aspek kehidupan. Sebagai contoh, apabila seorang pekerja menjadikan kerjanya sumber kejayaan dan kepenuhannya, kemudian itu akan mengarahkan kehidupannya. Tuhan, keluarganya dan kesihatannya diabaikan. Sama seperti itu, seorang Kristian yang melihat pada rumahtangga sebagai sumber damai dan kegembiraan akan rela berkahwin dengan seorang bukan Kristian. Mereka yang hidup kehidupan yang tiada Tuhan akan mempunyai cara kehidupan yang berdosa dan tidak beretika, walaupun mereka tahu apa yang mereka lakukan adalah salah dan berdosa dari segi agama. Apabila Tuhan adalah sumber kita, Dia boleh dan akan memenuhi segala keperluanmu menurut kekayaan dan kemuliaan-nya dalam Kristus Yesus (Filipi 4:19). Adam dan Hawa digoda untuk menjadi tuhan sendiri dalam Taman Eden. Alkitab berkata, Tetapi ular itu berkata kepada perempuan itu: Sekali-kali kamu tidak akan mati, tetapi Tuhan mengetahui, bahwa pada waktu kamu memakannya matamu akan terbuka, dan kamu akan menjadi seperti Tuhan, tahu tentang yang baik dan yang jahat. Perempuan itu melihat, bahwa buah pohon itu baik untuk dimakan dan sedap kelihatannya, lagipula pohon itu menarik hati karena memberi pengertian. Lalu ia mengambil dari buahnya dan dimakannya dan diberikannya juga kepada suaminya yang bersama-sama dengan dia, dan suaminyapun memakannya (Kejadian 3:4-6). Kesudahannya boleh menjadi sesuatu yang lucu, namun kesudahannya begitu serius sekali. Alkitab berkata, Maka terbukalah mata mereka berdua dan mereka tahu, bahwa mereka telanjang; lalu mereka menyemat daun pohon ara dan membuat cawat. Tetapi TUHAN Tuhan memanggil manusia itu dan berfirman kepadanya: Di manakah engkau? Ia menjawab: Ketika aku mendengar, bahwa Engkau ada dalam taman ini, aku menjadi takut, karena aku telanjang; sebab itu aku bersembunyi (Kejadian 3:7, 9-10). Mereka sepatutnya menjadi seperti Tuhan tetapi sebaliknya, berasa malu dan tidak dapat menutup diri sendiri dengan cukup. Mereka alami ketakutan dan menyembunyikan diri sendiri. Jangan ditipu oleh janji-janji palsu, tarikan dunia dan godaannya untuk memerangkap kamu dari kebebasan untuk hidup, mengasihi dan melayani Tuhan keselamatan kita. Pencarian untuk keselamatan, kejayaan dan kepuasan masih lagi tidak berhentii. Orang masih tertipu oleh iblis yang datang untuk mencuri, membunuh dan membinasa. Sebagai contoh, memiliki satu pendidikan dan kerjaya adalah baik tetapi apabila kamu melihatnya sebagai sumber kepuasan kamu, kamu gagal untuk memahami bahawa Tuhan adalah pencipta kamu dan memikirkan yang terbaik bagi kamu. Kamu tidak akan ada kepuasan sejati melainkan dari Tuhan. Memiliki pengetahuan yang banyak tentang firman Tuhan dan mentaati firmannya adalah dua perkara yang berbeza. 15 LIMA SALAH TANGGAPAN TENTANG GODAAN 1. Untuk digoda adalah satu dosa. Kebenarannya ialah untuk digoda bukannya satu dosa. Apabila kamu menyerah kepada godaan, itulah baharu adalah dosa. Alkitab berkata, karena senjata kami dalam perjuangan bukanlah senjata duniawi, melainkan senjata yang diperlengkapi dengan kuasa Tuhan, yang sanggup untuk meruntuhkan bentengbenteng. Kami mematahkan setiap siasat orang dan merubuhkan setiap kubu yang dibangun oleh keangkuhan manusia untuk menentang pengenalan akan Tuhan. Kami menawan segala pikiran dan menaklukkannya kepada Kristus (2 Korintus 10:4-5). Hanya kerana kamu mempunyai pemikiran yang kotor tidak bermakna kamu harus mentaatinya. Tanggungjawab kita adalah untuk menolak pemikiran seperti itu. Kamu memiliki kuasa untuk menawan pemikiran seperti itu. Pernah dikatakan, kamu tidak boleh memberhentikan burung daripada berterbangan di atas kepala kamu tetapi kamu boleh memberhentikannya daripada membuat sarang diatas kepala kamu. Kamu boleh memiliki kemenangan dengan menawan segala pemikiran dan menaklukkannya kepada Kristus. 2. Orang yang matang tidak di ganggu oleh godaan. Tidak kira betapa alimnya kamu, godaan akan menjadi sebahagian daripada umat yang percaya kerana selagi orang itu mahu seperti Yesus. Tiada siapa yang bebas dari godaan (1 Korintus 10:13). 3. Apabila kamu ada kemenangan atas godaan, kamu akan ada kemenangan atas godaan itu selama-lamanya. Sebagai contoh, sekiranya kamu ada kemenangan atas alkohol ini tidak bermakna kamu tidak akan digoda lagi dalam hal ini. Iblis selalu gigih mahu menggoda. Sama seperti itu, orang yang mengatasi hidup yang tidak bermoral, harus berjaga-jaga agar tidak menyerah kepada godaan apabila musuh datang menyerang dengan tiba-tiba. 4. Kita jatuh ke dalam godaan. Ini tidak benar. Sebagai contoh, tiada siapa yang bangun dan terus jatuh ke dalam penzinaan. Juga tiada siapa yang bangkit satu hari dan melakukan pembunuhan. Alkitab berkata, Tetapi tiap-tiap orang dicobai oleh keinginannya sendiri, karena ia diseret dan dipikat olehnya. Dan apabila keinginan itu telah dibuahi, ia melahirkan dosa; dan apabila dosa itu sudah matang, ia melahirkan maut. Saudara-saudara yang kukasihi, janganlah sesat! (Yakobus 1:14-16). Ada empat langkah dalam melakukan dosa,dan dijelaskan disini. Ia bermula dengan keinginan (ditanam oleh Iblis), dan apabila ia dibuahi, datanglah meditasi dan rencana dan apabila di jadikan aksi, ia adalah dosa dan ia memusnahkan. Tiada siapa yang jatuh ke dalam godaan. Dosa adalah satu pilihan. Ianya adalah sesuatu yang kamu sedar dan kamu bertindak untuk berdosa terhadap Tuhan. 5. Tuhan murka apabila kamu digoda. Sebaliknya, Alkitab berkata, Saudara-saudaraku, anggaplah sebagai suatu kebahagiaan, apabila kamu jatuh ke dalam berbagai-bagai pencobaan (Yakobus 1:2). Apabila hadapi godaan, ianya adalah satu peluang untuk mengenal Tuhan, jalannya dan belajar untuk mempercayainya. Tuhan membenarkan kamu untuk diujii, agar kamu boleh bertumbesar, menjadi matang dan tahu bagaimana untuk mengatur hidup kamu menurut jalannya. Jadi, jangan takut akan godaan, atau menjadi negatif apabila hadapi godaan. Alkitab berkata, sebab kamu tahu, bahwa ujian terhadap imanmu itu menghasilkan ketekunan (Yakobus 1:3) dan membuktikan kemurnian imanmu--yang jauh lebih tinggi nilainya dari pada emas yang fana, yang diuji kemurniannya dengan api--sehingga kamu memperoleh puji-pujian dan kemuliaan dan kehormatan pada hari Yesus Kristus menyatakan diri-nya (1 Petrus 1:7). HINDARI ZON BAHAYA Hidup kehidupan orang Kristian adalah untuk hidup dalam kebebasan Tuhan. Alkitab berkata, Jadi apabila Anak itu memerdekakan kamu, kamupun benar-benar merdeka (Yohanes 8:36). Ada beberapa perkara yang tidak salah, namun adalah tidak bijak. Ada sestenga orang Kristian menggunakan pertimbangan, oleh kerana ianya tidak salah untuk melakukannya. Kita harus berwaspada terhadap bahaya melakukan seperti ini, kerana ianya boleh memperbudakkan kita (1 Korintus 6:12). NASIHAT PAULUS KEPADA MEREKA YANG BERKATA OLEH KERANA IANYA TIDAK SALAH 1. Hidup Seperti Seorang Yang Bijak Paulus berkata, Karena itu, perhatikanlah dengan saksama, bagaimana kamu hidup, janganlah seperti orang bebal, tetapi seperti orang arif (Efesus 5:15). Pendekatannya bukanlah untuk mempersoalkan apakah benar atau salah. Sebaliknya tanya Adakah bijak untuk melakukannya? Seorang yang bijak menjauhkan diri dari sesuatu yang boleh menyakiti dan memusnahkannya suatu hari. Tiga perkara tentang hikmat Tuhan: HIkmat tidak merasionalisasikan. Ambil pandangan jangkamasa yang panjang. 3. Rebut Setiap Peluang Paulus berkata, Pergunakanlah waktu yang ada, karena hari-hari ini adalah jahat (Efesus 5:16). 15

16 4. Mengenal Kehendak Tuhan Alkitab berkata, Sebab itu janganlah kamu bodoh, tetapi usahakanlah supaya kamu mengerti kehendak Tuhan (Efesus 5:17). Adalah kehendak Tuhan agar kita memuliiakannya dengan hidup berkemenangan. Paulus berkata, Karena itu, saudara-saudara, demi kemurahan Tuhan aku menasihatkan kamu, supaya kamu mempersembahkan tubuhmu sebagai persembahan yang hidup, yang kudus dan yang berkenan kepada Tuhan: itu adalah ibadahmu yang sejati. 18 Preparing meals for the residents at Calvaryland Sharing the Gospel to children in the Sepang community via handcraft On 11, 18 November and 2 December 2017, 35 young adults had the opportunity to reach out to the communities through the M.A.D. Outreach Programme organized by the Youth and Young Adults Ministry. Over the span of three Saturdays, they cooked a hearty dinner for the elderly at Calvaryland, made the Calvaryland, Sunshine Home and Missions House premises look cleaner and neater, as well as carried out the gathering for the street people at Calvary Rainbow Assembly. YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS MADE A DIFFERENCE (M.A.D.) By Michael Loon Painting the wall at Calvaryland The Youth M.A.D. Outreach Programme followed on December 2017 involving 37 young people. They carried out a children s programme at Sepang Praise Assembly that included a few potential believing kids and mothers. In the afternoon, the youths put their efforts together in cleaning windows, mopping the floors, re-arranging the Calvaryland office and gardening, all to improve the Calvaryland s environment. Here are some testimonies from our very own youth and young adults who participated in the M.A.D. Outreach Programme: God s hand was upon all the preparation and planned activities. I had the joy of the Lord in my participation in the Calvary Rainbow Assembly. As the worship team led, I was greatly encouraged by the congregation s engagement and response of joy in singing and the clapping of hands. I learnt that the little things we do in life matter to people. Christine Leong My experience in M.A.D. was amazing! I learned many things such as removing mimosa weeds and cleaning dirty windows using old newspaper. Although it was tiring, I was glad to be able to put a smile on the elderly s faces and they thanked us for making the premises clean. Apart from that, I m glad to have made new friends. 19 It was a revelation for me that care can also be expressed by putting our hearts to prepare a hearty dinner for the residents of Calvaryland. Being one who is shy in communication, this simple contribution was the least I could contribute to the community. Amy Lai The M.A.D. project was a fulfilling experience for me, opening my eyes to the needs of the community in Sungai Pelek and teaching me what it means to love my neighbour. Victoria Choi M.A.D. was a humbling and encouraging experience for me, in seeing the youth and some of my own teens group giving up their time and efforts to serve the Sepang community. It s also a fresh reminder for me to pause and be grateful for everything I have.
