This year it welcomed 184 entries to be appraised by a top panel of judges who are masters in their respective field over four competing categories of Bicycles, Components/Parts, Peripherals/Accessories, E-bikes/Pedelecs. Now with 44 awarded products listed, and four Special Gold Awards, we can discern clear trends mirroring social and environment concerns. 台北國際自行車展創新設計獎於 2012 年台北國際自行車展 25 周年時首次執行, 今年獎項邁入第 2 年, 由中華民國對外貿易發展協會與台灣區自行車輸出業同業公會共同主辦, 並委請德國 if 國際論壇策劃執行, 吸引全球自行車業者以優良設計的創新產品參與競賽 Out front is the E-bike - this year s new category that touched the heart of the judges in the same way it has been winning the bike lanes of Europe with increased sales across Europe. Even in hard economic times Europeans are still opting for LEVs to protect the environment and shield them from unstable oil prices. The organizers of this event are TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council) and TBEA (Taiwan Bicycle Exporters Association) and it is executed by if International Forum GmbH. All entries went through a grueling review in such criteria as degree of innovation, design quality, choice of materials, environmental friendliness, functionality and universal design. TAIPEI CYCLE is like a global bicycle tour which annually unfolds to redefine the winners. It s here where the giants go through the paces to win crowns for the best bikes and products upon a world podium. This is where the top tech and innovation rallied to win the day and define the future. Ralph Wiegmann if Managing Director if 總經理 This year is already the second time around for the presentation of the TAIPEI CYCLE d&i awards. As for the debut of these awards in 2012 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the TAIPEI CYCLE Show, the TAIPEI CYCLE d&i awards will once again provide impressive proof of the powerful innovative strength of the bicycle industry. The 184 entries in the four categories of Bicycles, Components/Parts, Accessories and E-Bikes/Pedelecs were judged by a panel of international experts and 44 of those entries were honored with the seal of quality, four of whom were also proud recipients of a GOLD award. The experts gave special mention to the outstanding design and the aspect of user friendliness, which continues to increase in importance: These products are helping to re-shape the bicycle industry from sports equipment into an industry providing desirable transport solutions to a much bigger cross-section of the design-aware population. The TAIPEI CYCLE d&i awards were sponsored together by the TAITRA and the TBEA and conceived and realized by the if Branch Office Taiwan. Gerog Todtenbier CRE8 DESIGN Taiwan Han Goes Q square consultants Netherlands Georg Todtenbier was a sculptor before he decided to study Industrial in Germany and Tokyo. After that, he worked for the Panasonic Team in Japan. Today, he is a manager at CRE8 DESIGN, Taiwan, and also works as a lecturer in the field of product design. Todtenbier lives in Taiwan, where he pursues such hobbies as freeriding and downhill riding. Han Goes comes from the Netherlands and has been a managing consultant with Q Square, a company that specializes in product and business development in the bicycle industry, for more than ten years. Prior to that, Goes headed the Product Development Department at Giant Europe, Netherlands, and Giant Inc., Taiwan. He also works as a journalist for international bicycle magazines. Henry Chang Gearlab Co., Ltd. Taiwan Johann Geiger Dayeh University Taiwan Henry Chang is the design manager and co-founder of Gearlab, a design agency in Taiwan. Prior to that, Chang worked as a design manager at DEM Inc., Taiwan, and as a product designer at Phison Electronics, Taiwan. Chang is specialized in the outdoor industry; he is particularly interested in bicycle and kayak design. 張博翔是台灣器研所的設計經理暨共同創辦人 曾擔任台灣橙果設計 的設計經理以及台灣群聯電子股份有限公司的產品設計師, 張博翔擅長戶外活 動產品, 對自行車與獨木舟的設計特別感興趣 Johann Geiger studied Industrial at the University of Applied Sciences in Munich. Taiwan Mark Sanders is the managing director of MAS, a product design and engineering consulting agency founded in Great Britain in 1984. After studying Industrial Engineering at the Royal College of Art, London, he began his career as an engineer at Rolls Royce. On a freelance basis, Sanders also teaches design at different universities around the world. He has also already received numerous design awards for his products.
