216 20 2 He Zhengong, Zhou Zhengong and the Transformation of the Taoist Jingming Sect during the Southern Song Dynasty Wu Guo Abstract Our knowledge about the Taoist Jingming sect brims full of misconceptions. By thoroughly studying the scriptures of this sect to determine the relationships among He Zhengong, He Shouzheng and Zhou Zhengong, the author believes that He Zhengong is the same personality as He Shouzheng, with Zhou Zhengong being another leader of the Jingming sect after He Zhengong. In addition, this article ascertains the periods of these scriptures anew with the teachings of He Zhengong, Zhou Zhengong or their masters and disciples as the frames of reference, thereby discovering an important transformation of the Jingming sect during the Southern Song dynasty. The author discovered that He Zhengong s sect emphasizes rituals of invoking and fulu, and Zhou Zhengong s sect stresses the neidan. This transformation acts as the forerunner of Liu Yu s reformation of the Jingming sect during the Yuan dynasty. Keywords: Jingming sect, fulu, neidan, He Zhengong, Zhou Zhengong * Wu Guo is a professor in the Department of History at Yunnan University.
