After moving to China in 1918, its organization in the US was left in a limbo until the early 1930s when, at the request of the Board of Directors and its executive director Yang Xiaoshu, Mei Yiqi, who was in the US as the supervisor of students from Tsinghua University, successfully re-organized its American Branch by holding elections and annual conventions, therefore strengthening ties among Chinese students in the US and Sino- US connections in science, technology, and education. After Mei s return for Tsinghua in late 1931 as its new president, Zhao Yuanren, Tang Peisong, Ren Zhigong, Qiu Kaiming and others kept the branch going.
