Technical Note of NILIM No. 315 June 2006 YSK-N-115 The characteristic of aircraft type about world airlines Natsuko SENDA * Tomoki ISHIKURA** Yoshihisa SUGIMURA** Masaki ISHII*** Synopsis In order to construct efficient aviation network, appropriate aircraft mix selection is important for airlines. Technological improvement makes expand the flight range of aircraft, and it has brought down sizing in many flight routes. On the other hand, new large aircrafts are also appearing such as A380. Assumption of aircraft size is an important element of air demand forecast. Since aircraft replacement span is long term, understanding ownership aspects can help the prospects of aircraft mix in operation. This paper analyzes characteristics of trend of the aircraft mix with regard to ownership the airline of our country and each country. This paper, clarifies characteristics of historical trend and differences between airlines of the aircraft mix. In the European and American airlines, the rate of possession of a small-size aircraft is high, and, in addition to it, the share of regional-jet aircraft is increasing in recent years. On the other hand, East Asian airline s of a large-sized aircraft is high, and it is increasing even in recent years share.
