PRESS RELEASE 2018 Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination Results Released Results notices of the 2018 Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) will be issued tomorrow (11 July) by the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA). This year, a total of 51,636 school candidates and 7,364 private candidates entered the HKDSE. The total candidature has decreased by about 4 from last year. Among the 50,642 day school candidates from 439 day schools, nearly 89 registered for two to three elective subjects in addition to the four core subjects, namely Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics and Liberal Studies. A total of 35,179 day school candidates obtained level 2 or above in five subjects, including Chinese Language and English Language. This represents 71.6 of day school candidates, an increase of 1.9 as compared to last year. These candidates are eligible to apply for sub-degree courses and relevant civil service posts. The percentage of day school candidates who have met the general entrance requirements for local undergraduate university programmes is 42.2, which has risen by 1.3 as compared to last year. These 21,264 day school candidates obtained level 3 or above in both Chinese Language and English Language, and level 2 or above in Mathematics Compulsory Part and Liberal Studies. This year, 86.1 of day school candidates attained level 2 or above in Chinese Language, which is similar to 2017, while 57.2 and 10.0 were awarded level 3 or above and level 5 or above respectively, both showing increases from last year s figures. In English Language, 79.2 and 53.8 of day school candidates obtained level 2 or above and level 3 or above respectively, representing an increase of about 2 at both levels as compared to 2017. The percentage of day school candidates achieving level 5 or above is 9.0, which is about 1 lower than that of last year. The performance of candidates in Liberal Studies has slightly dropped across the board when compared to last year, with 89.0 of day school candidates obtaining level 2 or above and 7.2 achieving level 5 or above. In addition to the 24 Category A subjects, the HKDSE also offers 36 Category B Applied Learning subjects and six Category C Other Language subjects this year. Starting from 2018, results of Applied Learning subjects (except Applied Learning Chinese) are reported in three levels, namely Attained, Attained with Distinction (I) and Attained with Distinction (II). Performance of Attained with Distinction (I) is deemed comparable to level 3 while Attained with Distinction (II) is deemed comparable to level 4 or above in Category A subjects. Candidates who took Category B Applied Learning subjects (excluding Applied Learning Chinese) achieved Attained or above in 93.6 of the 3,656 subjects assessed and Attained with Distinction (I) or above and Attained with Distinction (II) in 27.1 and 7.3 of those subjects respectively. A total of 424 candidates sat Category C Other Language subjects this year. These subjects were examined using the Advanced Subsidiary (AS) level question papers from Cambridge Assessment International Education (Cambridge International). Results of the November 2017 series examinations had already been released in mid-january 2018, with 92.7 and 50 of candidates attaining grade e or above and grade a respectively. More than 11,000 invigilator-sessions were organised for the written papers and listening tests, which were held in 373 schools this year. Special examination arrangements were made for 2,666 candidates with special educational needs and a total of 244 special examination centres were set up. This year, approximately 800,000 scripts were marked onscreen in 12 assessment centres throughout the territory. About 4,370 markers, 350 marking assistants and 970 oral examiners were appointed to assess candidates performance. Arrangements for the release of results on 11 July School candidates should collect their results notices from respective schools, while an online results enquiry service is available to evening school candidates from 7:00am on 11 July. Private candidates will be notified by post and can also check their results online. Those who do not receive their results notices by post on 11 July should contact the HKEAA on 3628 8860 or visit our office located at 12/F, Southorn Centre, 130 Hennessy Road, Wan Chai between 8:30am and 5:00pm on 12 July.
