2 (LOTS ) It is now commonplace to see the source of whisky for the fine and collectible market covering at least three continents: Scotland,, and the USA. Where Scotland captures a historic aspect and an exotic craftsmanship, America s Bourbon has the unique rules and stringent aging regimen of all. It is no wonder that these bottles are among the rarest and most delicious drams available. This auction sees two releases from the Pappy Van Winkle family reserve, including a 20 year Kentucky Straight Bourbon (lot 1360), meaning the casks required to make this whisky can only ever be used once when they are brand new. Among the whisky, Glen Grant and Glenfarclas from the 1950 s are available, the supply of whisky from this decade are dwindling with every auction as connoisseurs continue to open these bottles and discover how precious they are compared to the way whisky is produced today. Also showing are some of the lowest yielding casks in Karuizawa history including a 31 Year and 35 Year Single Sherry Cask. At the time of bottling, there was not a lot to begin with. Now, only a few bottles remain. Another closed distillery, Hanyu, has two Europe only Single Cask Bottlings. Although the whisky inside is ese, these bottles never saw any release, promotion or marketing outside of the Netherlands As more distilleries continue to be purchased to join conglomerates or mothballed due to financial constraints, the whisky market continues to move further away from what it once was and the chance to capture a dram made from a more independent perspective with less international influence is becoming harder than ever. 13 A single sherry cask, this release was distilled just one year before Port Ellen turned off the fire in its distilleries. Douglas Laing is an independent bottler and smaller than most of their competitors, known for their impeccable selection.
