PRESS RELEASE 2014 Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination Results Released The Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) will release the results of the 2014 Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination tomorrow (14 July). This year, 79,572 candidates entered the HKDSE Examination and 65,270 of them are day school candidates presented by 505 schools. The number of day school candidates has dropped by 6.4 while the number of private candidates has increased by around 2,000 to about 13,000 this year. Three categories of subjects are offered in the HKDSE Examination: Category A NSS subjects, Category B Applied Learning subjects and Category C Other Language subjects. About 85 of school candidates registered for two to three subjects in addition to the four core subjects, namely Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics and Liberal Studies. A total of 43,538 day school candidates obtained level 2 or above in five subjects including Chinese Language and English Language. This represents 68.3 of day school candidates, which is comparable to that of last year. These candidates are eligible to apply for sub-degree courses and relevant civil service posts. The percentage of day school candidates who have met the general entrance requirements for local undergraduate university programmes has risen by 1.5 to 40.4. These 26,307 day school candidates obtained level 3 or above in both Chinese Language and English Language, and level 2 or above in Mathematics Compulsory Part and Liberal Studies. The general performance of day school candidates in the four core subjects is broadly comparable to that of last year. In Chinese Language, 51.8 attained level 3 or above while 80.4 and 7.9 of day school candidates were awarded level 2 or above and level 5 or above respectively.
About 52.8 of day school candidates obtained level 3 or above in English Language, representing an increase of about 4 from last year. The percentages of candidates getting level 2 or above and level 5 or above are 77.9 and 9.9 respectively, which are similar to last year s figures. In Mathematics Compulsory Part, 80 of day school candidates attained level 2 or above while 87.7 attained level 2 or above in Liberal Studies. For both subjects, the percentage of day school candidates achieving level 5 or above has increased by over 1 as compared to last year. Candidates who took Category B Applied Learning subjects achieved Attained or above in 90.1 of the 4,337 subjects assessed and were awarded Attained with Distinction in 23.1 of the subject entries. A total of 268 candidates entered Category C Other Language subjects this year. These subjects were examined using the Advanced Subsidiary (AS) level question papers from Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). The results of the June 2014 series examinations will be released on 21 July while candidates who sat for the November 2013 series examinations had already received their results in February 2014. There were more than 16,000 invigilator-sessions for the written papers and listening tests which were held in 412 schools this year. Special examination arrangements were made for 1,595 candidates with special needs and a total of 110 special examination centres were set up to cater for the increased demand. This year around 1.08 million scripts were marked onscreen in 10 assessment centres throughout the territory. About 4,500 markers, 600 marking assistants and 1,000 oral examiners were appointed to assess candidates performance. Arrangements for the release of results on 14 July School candidates should collect their results notices from respective schools and an online results enquiry service is available to evening school candidates from 7:00 am on 14 July. Private candidates will be notified by post and they can also check their results online.
