Southwest Associated University and Middle School Teacher Training in Yunnan Wen Liming National 8 1938 1939 OF Abstract: As the largest university in China during the war with Japan, the National Southwest Associated University was encouraged by the Ministry of Education and local education department in Yunnan province to conduct trainings. In 1938 and 1939, two trainings were organized for middle school teachers in Yunnan in which the University provided an excellent team from its faculty to give lectures. The trainings aimed to strengthen middle school education in Yunnan as well as intellectual power for China s modernization. The trainings conducted by the National Southwest Associated University reflect Chinese universities war-time ambition to build up the country and may inspire today s education workers.
