166 Migrating Physicians: Origin of Medicinal Science in the Tang Dynasty Fan Ka Wai Abstract The disunited China of the Northern and Southern Dynasties experienced a golden age in Chinese medicine, as can be seen from the talented physicians who moved from southern to northern China. This article studies renowned family lineages of physicians, particularly the Hsüs of Tung-hai and the Yaos of Wu-kang, to trace the development and spread of Chinese medicine during these eras.
