ABSTRACT The following summarizes the monitoring results on radioactivity in fallout, foodstuffs, and cumulative samples during second half, 2009. Numbers of samples are 524. 1. Direct radiationthe exposure rates were found between 0.033 and 0.075 µsv/hr, which were within the variation of environmental background radiation. 2. Airborne particulatesgross beta activities were found between 0.09 and 1.50 mbq/m 3, which were far below the warning level of 9 10 3 mbq/m 3. There are only naturally occurring radionuclides Be-7 and K-40 were found with gamma spectrometry. 3. Water tray samplesgross beta activities were found between MDA and 4.94 Bq/m 2 month, which were far below the warning level of 910 4 Bq/m 2 month. Sr-90 activities of all samples were below MDA. There are only naturally occurring radionuclides Be-7 and K-40 were found with gamma spectrometry. 4. Rainwater and fallout (collected via water tray)gross beta activities were found between MDA and 122 mbq/l. Tritium activities of all sample were below MDA. There are no man-made radionuclides was found with gamma spectrometry. 5. GrassGross beta activities were found between 164 and 195 Bq/ kg fresh. There are only naturally occurring radionuclides Be-7 and K-40 were found with gamma spectrometry. 6. Water samplegross beta activities were found between MDA and 340 mbq/l. Tritium activities of all samples were below MDA. 7. Tealeaves samplegross beta activities were found between 140 and 148 Bq/ kg fresh. There are only naturally occurring radionuclides Be-7 and K-40 were found with gamma spectrometry in Ping-Lin s and Nan-Tou s samples. The activities of Sr-90 were below MDA. 8. Soil and SandNaturally occurring radionuclides Be-7, K-40, Th series and U series were found with gamma spectrometry. In iddiation, the Cs-137 activitie were found between MDA and 49 Bq/kg dry. The activities of Sr-90 were below MDA. 9. FoodstuffsIn the diet, gross beta activities were found between 20 and 119 Bq/kg fresh. The activities of Cs-137 were found between MDA and 0.17 Bq/kg fresh respectively. In oyster and clam, etc. Gross beta activities were found between 10 and 27 Bq/ kg fresh. The activities of Sr-90 were found between MDA and 0.03 Bq/kg fresh respectively. 10. Tap-waterGross alpha activities were below MDA of all samples, while gross beta activities were between 21 and 100 mbq/l, which meet the safety requirement for drinking water. 11. The imported foodstuffsthe imported foodstuffs include seafood can, fresh vegetable, fresh fruit, dry fruit and dry seed, etc. Only naturally occurring radionuclide K-40 was
found with gamma spectrometry. 12.TileThe radioactivity of K-40, Th series and U series in selected tiles are lower than reference level for building material. Based on this biannual survey, we conclude that the artificial radioactivities in Taiwan are within the variation of background environmental radiation. It is accessed that between July and December 2009, the committed effective dose due to inhalation, food and tea leave consumption is far below the required by law.
