05 6 Economic Development Strategy of the State of Kuwait and the Belt and Road Initiative TONG Fei Tong Fei Associate Professor Institute of West-Asian and African Studies Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Abstract As an oil rich country the State of Kuwait once to be the regional financial and trade center. Kuw ait has gradually lost its central position in this region since the invasion of Iraq. Under the guidance of economic diversification strategy Kuwait has got continuous economic growth especially after the success of overseas investment. But there still a long way to go to restore its former position in the Gulf region because of fragile oil economy dependence on foreign labors defective financial and investment law s and regulations and unstable domestic and regional political situation etc. To develop the cooperation between China and Kuw ait has important significance for enhancing our petroleum strategic security and One Belt One Road Strategy.
