1 Application Procedures for Confucius Institute Scholarship 2010 I. English Version The Confucius Institute Scholarship Program was established by the Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters in order to encourage students and Chinese language teachers all over the world to study or conduct research in Chinese language and culture in China. I. Eligibility Criteria: 1. Outstanding students at Confucius Institutes (classrooms) worldwide; 2. Mandarin teachers/those who intend to become Mandarin teachers and who devoted to cultural communication of Chinese; 3. Outstanding examinees of Chinese tests organized by Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters; 4. Outstanding participants of Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competitions; 5. Those eligible according to certain agreements of Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters. The applicant must be a non-chinese citizen in good health. II. Scholarship category and qualification: 1. Scholarships for advanced study. Duration is for one semester or one academic year. Applicants are required to have a basic knowledge Chinese language level, and be under the age of Scholarships for Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of other Languages. Duration is two years. Applicants are required to hold bachelor degrees or equivalent and be under the age of 45. III. Supported majors: Majors supported by Confucius Institute Scholarships (2010) include literature, education, history and traditional Chinese medicine and pharmacy. IV. Scholarship coverage and criteria: 1

2 1. Scholarship holders are exempt from campus registration, tuition, outpatient medical service and accommodation fees on campus 2. Monthly allowances (CNY Yuan/month) a. Advanced study:cny1,400 b. Master of teaching Chinese to Speakers of other language:cny1, One-off settlement subsidy, at the following rates (CNY Yuan): a. Students who will study in China for 1 academic year or more:cny 1,500 b. Students who will study in China more than one semester, but within one academic year: CNY 1, Comprehensive Medical Insurance: provided by Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters for scholarship students in China in case of hospitalization for serious disease or injury. V. Recommending Institutes: Applicants should submit their applications through the following recommending institutes: 1. Educational(cultural) departments of Chinese embassies and consulates abroad; 2. Confucius Institutes worldwide; 3. Scholarship accepting institutes; 4. Other organizations appointed by Confucius Institute Headquarters; For more details, please check Confucius Institute Scholarship website VI. Application and Evaluation: 1. Applicants, please log on to the Confucius Scholarship establish an individual account, fill in the application website form online, print the form and sign it; then submit it to the recommending institute with other application materials before March 31st; 2. The Recommending Institutes will select the best applicants and submit 2

3 their documents to the accepting institutes. Evaluation will be made by the accepting institutes and the results will be submitted to Confucius Institute Headquarters, which will make the final selection and award the Confucius Institute Scholarships. 3. The applicants may check the application process and results at any time through their individual accounts on the Confucius Institute website. VII. Application Documents: Applicants must submit their documents according to the following instructions (all in duplicate): 1. Application form for Confucius Institute Scholarship: log on to the Confucius Institute Scholarship website, fill in and submit the form online; then print and submit it; 2. Photocopy of passport photo page; 3. Application statement: include applicants Chinese learning background and study plan in China. It should be no less than 200 words. Print and sign it in Chinese or English. For Masters of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of other Languages, give a detailed plan for study and research in China. 4. Chinese proficiency certificates: a copy of the HSK results is strictly required for applying Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of other Languages; 5. Diploma and transcripts: issued directly by the educational administration office of the school/university, and with an official stamp. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by notarized translations in Chinese or English. Applicants for Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of other Languages are required to submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English by professors or associate professors. VIII. Approval: 1. Confucius Institute Headquarters will inform recommending institutes and acceptance institutes of scholarship decisions before May 31st, The acceptance institutes will send both the letter of acceptance and the certification of scholarship to the applicants. IX. Registration: The scholarship winner must register before the deadline prescribed by the acceptance institutes. The scholarship will not be saved for those who do not register on time. X. 5 奖学金期限分为一学期和一学年申请人原则上应具备一定汉语基础, 年龄一般不超过 55 周岁 2 汉语国际教育专业硕士奖学金汉语国际教育专业硕士奖学金 : 期限 2 学年申请人应具有学士学位或相当学历, 年龄一般不超过 45 周岁三支持专业 2010 年度孔子学院奖学金支持的专业包括文学类教育学类历史学类和中医中药类四奖学金内容标准 1 免学费住宿费门诊医疗费 2 按月发给奖学金生活费, 标准为 : a. 进修生 :1400 元 b. 硕士研究生 :1700 元 3 发给一次性安置费, 标准为 : a. 在华学习时间满一学年 ( 含 ) 的 :1500 元 b. 在华学习时间在一学期 ( 含 ) 以上但不满一学年的 :1000 元 4 提供来华留学生综合保险五推荐机构申请者可经由如下推荐机构提交申请 : 5

6 1 驻各国的中国使领馆教育 ( 文化 ) 处 ( 组 ); 2 各孔子学院 ; 3 各奖学金接收院校 ; 4 国家汉办 / 孔子学院总部指定的其他机构详见孔子学院奖学金网站六申请及评审 1 申请者登陆孔子学院奖学金网站建立个人帐号, 在线填写申请表, 打印签字后连同其他申请材料于 3 月 31 日前提交至推荐机构 ; 2 推荐机构择优将申请材料递交至所申请接收院校, 由接收院校进行初审接收院校于 4 月 30 日前将初审结果提交至国家汉办 / 孔子学院总部, 国家汉办 / 孔子学院总部将择优授予孔子学院奖学金 ; 3 申请者可通过个人帐户在孔子学院奖学金网站随时查询申请进程及录取结果七申请材料申请者须按如下要求提交材料 ( 均为一式两份 ): 1 孔子学院奖学金申请表 : 此表需登陆孔子学院奖学金网站在线填写提交并打印报送 ; 2 护照照片页复印件 ; 3 申请陈述 : 包含申请人汉语学习背景来华学习计划及目标等, 不少于 200 字, 用中文或英文打印并签字申请攻读汉语国际教育专业硕士者请详述来华学习和研究计划 ; 6
