Ethnographic Films on Taiwan s Indigenous Peoples: A New Vision Tai-Li Hu* Abstract This article attempts to provide an overview of the development of ethnographic films on Taiwan, s indigenous peoples. The author makes use of a broad definition of ethnographic films including those made by anthropologists, professional filmmakers, indigenous directors and local cultural workers. These films are delineated chronologically into four sections: silent ethnographic films, 16 mm ethnographic films, ethnographic video films made by indigenous directors, and ethnographic video films made by non-indigenous directors.
