The 5th Inter-Gavel Club and Youth Leadership Programme English Public Speaking Contest (15 /5) Principal Chung Chiang Hon has always been putting effort in promoting English activities in Hong Kong and our school has become the centre for English Public Speaking. This year is already the fifth year we have organized the Inter-Gavel Club Contest together with the Toastmasters International. Students from nine schools participated in this contest. The performances of the contestants were amazing and won warm applauses. Talyta Lam from Form 4B, had an excellent performance and won the 1 st runner-up. Experienced Toastmasters were invited to be the judges of the contest. They included the Division Governors of Divisions H and K, Ms. Tina Wong and Mr. Sean Lin. We even have the representative of the NET Section of the EDB, Mr. Peter Broe. Journey to the Championships (27/4) The Sai Kung & Tseung Kwan O Secondary School Heads Association invited Mr Mark Hunter, the World Champion of Toastmasters International Public Speaking 2009 to conduct an educational workshop, Journey to the Championships on 27 April 2010. Mr. Mark Hunter is an accomplished speaker trainer and coach. He has won international public speaking contests, and has been Australia s National Champion in 1996, 1999, 2001, 2007 and 2009. He was crowned Toastmasters International World Champion of Public Speaking in August 2009 in Connecticut (USA). Professionally, Mark has worked for The Education Department of Queensland for 30 years, and he has been principal of both primary and secondary schools. In 2001, he was trained as an executive coach and worked with school principals in Queensland. He presented numerous keynotes and workshops at conferences at the local, state, national and international levels. It was really a valuable experience for students to meet this outstanding speaker. During his workshop, Mark pinpointed the importance of public speaking ability in this competitive world. On his road to success, he encountered many different obstacles and failures but finally achieved his goal because of his perseverance. He shared his personal tips with the audiences through some mini-games. 宝 17
