Ref: DSE/CR 3/2015 12 May 2015 HONG KONG DIPLOMA OF SECONDARY EDUCATION EXINATION 2015 Examination Circular No. (8) 2014/2015 2016 Examination Timetable and Date of Release of Results 1. This circular is to inform schools of the examination schedule for the 2016 Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) and the tentative date of release of results, and to seek schools support and co-operation to ensure the smooth conduct of the examinations. 2. In drawing up the 2016 HKDSE examination schedule for Category A subjects (Annex 1), consideration has been given to the school holidays for the academic year 2015/16, the subject combination statistics for the 2014 and 2015 examinations as well as the general pattern of the 2015 examination. The main features of the 2016 examination timetable are as follows: (a) As the 2016 Easter school holidays will generally fall between 23 March and 1 April and the Ching Ming Festival will fall on 4 April, the core subject examinations (i.e. Chinese Language, English Language, Liberal Studies and Mathematics Compulsory Part) will be held from 5 to 12 April. No examination is scheduled between the two language subjects on 7 April and after the Mathematics Compulsory Part examinations on 13 April. (b) The Chinese Language speaking examinations will be held from the second week of March to late March and the English Language speaking examinations in late April to mid-may. (c) For the core subjects with the largest entries, some schools will have to suspend classes so as to provide their classrooms as examination venues. The maximum period of possible class suspension will be five days. (d) For elective subjects, those with an SBA component or options requiring equating will be examined earlier. Subjects not implementing SBA will be examined later. Science and humanities subjects are scheduled alternately, with a view to minimising the number of candidates who have to sit examinations for two or three consecutive days. (e) (f) Some smaller-entry elective subjects will be examined during the Easter break and towards the end of April/early May. Although three examination dates will overlap with the English Language speaking examinations, candidates will not be allocated to sit two examinations on the same day. Two examination dates have been tentatively earmarked for Design & Applied Technology, Physical Education and Music examinations. Two or more of these subjects will be scheduled on the same day only if there is no overlap of candidates. 3. The examination timetable for Category C (Other Languages) subjects for the November 2015 series is shown in Annex 2. The examination timetable for the June 2016 series is subject to confirmation by Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and will be announced as soon as the information becomes available. Dates of Release of Results 4. The date for the release of the 2016 Categories A and B examination results is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, 13 July 2016. The results for Category C subjects for the November and June series will be announced in due course. - 2 -
[Note: In 2016, the results of the Category C (Other Languages) June series examination (i.e. French and Spanish only) will be released in early August. Special arrangements have been made with JUPAS so that the results of the candidates concerned will still be considered for local tertiary admission purposes, together with the upgraded Category A results to be released in mid-august 2016 after rechecking and remarking.] Support from schools 5. To ensure the smooth conduct of the HKDSE examination in 2016, the cooperation and collaborative support from all participating schools is indispensable. Schools are requested to take into account the highlights of the 2016 examination timetable in paragraph 2 above when planning their calendars and activities for 2015/2016. 6. Over the years, schools have been our important partners in examination administration through their provision of invigilation staff and school premises for the conduct of examinations, which is a requirement of schools' participation in the public examinations. In the past year, we encountered much difficulty in securing sufficient venues for written and speaking examinations for both normal and SEN candidates. As a result, some of your candidates have to be allocated to examination centres other than their choice of district. Annex 2 Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination 2016 Category C (Other Languages) Subjects (November 2015 Series) Examination Timetable All six Category C (Other Languages) subjects will be offered in the November 2015 examination.
