First, an experimental WAPOPAC system based-on the WAP technology is proposed. Such that the service of library s OPAC can be extend to the mobile communication networks. Consequently, the moving users who have any kind of WAP terminal can access the on-line catalog of the libraries at anytime and anywhere. We use the WAP simulator and WAP cellar phone to test the proposed system. The results show that the system works well. Secondly, in view of the mobile communication network already became one of the important national information infrastructures, it will also be a key element for constructing a mobile library. Therefore, this paper also surveys some of the mobile 1
and wireless communication technologies. It provides a brief reference and a start point for the libraries to develop the mobile information service.
