12 Patrolling The frequency of patrols should be dependent upon the security level in force and the current circumstances of the vessel. The patrol arrangements should be adequately manned and frequent enough to be effective. The key to positive patrolling is the use of robust and effective reporting and response procedures. It is important that the personnel patrolling are capable of making decisions as to the appropriate response such as whether an incident requires an immediate reaction or not and what that should be.

16 When to search Security level 1: a random searching schedule will be applied and the exact levels will be directed by the Master/SSO. Security level 2: random searches will be carried out on a minimum of 50% of all bags/people/stores/vehicles. This may be increased at the discretion of the Master/SSO. Security level 3: 100% of bags/people/stores/vehicles will be searched. Though all movement onto the vessel may be suspended at this level.

25 Recommended procedures once suspicious objects located 1. Report the location and an accurate description of the object to the SSO/Master. 2. Do not attempt to cover the object. 3. Identify the danger area and block it off with a clear zone above and below the object. 4. Follow the instructions of the CSO and those contained within SSP. 5. Do not permit re-entry into or around the space until the device has been removed/disarmed.
