2 Hong Kong Imports and Exports Classification List (Harmonized System) 2009 Amendments The Hong Kong Imports and Exports Classification List (Harmonized System) is amended annually to take account of international requirements and significant changes in trade pattern and technology. Amendments in 2009, which will take effect as from 1 January 2009, involve commodity items, mainly including edible preparations, petroleum products, chemicals, plastics and articles of plastics, mechanical appliances, optical elements and checking instruments, articles for games as well as collections of postage. The amendments were published in the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Gazette on 21 November Importers and exporters are reminded that import and export declarations for shipments on or after 1 January 2009 must be completed in accordance with the amended classification. Amendments in 2009 in respect of commodity classification based on the Hong Kong Harmonized System (HKHS) 8digit commodity item codes are listed in Table 1. / Amendments in 2009 in respect of classification of country/territory, unit of quantity and transport mode are given in Table 2, Table 3 and Table 4 respectively. List of commodity codes amended on 9 February 2007 and 1 January 2008 are given in Table 5 and Table 6 respectively.
