Introduction In industrial applications there has been a change of data transmission in the last 10 years. The mystery word was "Fieldbus Technology". Depending on many different special applications there arose a lot of manufacturer s special bus solutions. To develop an international standard within the SP 50 working group, different interests of the members made it really difficult to proceed with the specification. As a result of these, and the need of the market manufacturer independent user organisations were build up. Within these groups, where each manufacturer could be a member, standards were worked out for fieldbus solutions, which had become a national standard in respect of Profibus. Today Profibus and Fieldbus Foundation were implemented in the international fieldbus which was finished in 1999. This guarantees that our products can be used for the 3 most important fieldbus solutions in the world, Profibus, Fieldbus Foundation and World FIP. The cable types in this catalogue are always based on the type A cable of the relevant standards which indicates almost the best quality. The cables are consistent to the connectors and plugs defined for the bus system. This is the way to follow the philosophy of Plug and Play. As an alternative to the standard Profibus cables, we give you the opportunity to reduce the installation costs by using our Fast AssemblyTM product with a special stripping tool. Based on the products within this catalogue we specialise to meet every client s requirement based on heavy duty environmental conditions or other critical applications. Installation Guideline Environmental aspects and National regulations Besides the special aspects of new technologies, like Profibus systems, we have to consider the same ambient influences as for the traditional electrical installations. So the environmental conditions are the key to chose the optimised applicable product. It is necessary to look for the conditions of electromagnetic interference, mechanical stress, chemical substances or hazardous applications. The second point of interest is concerning the national regulations for building up electrical systems. As a result of these aspects you will get the recommendation for Profibus DP in fibre optic technology or RS 485 (copper technology). For process automation it is recommended to use the Profibus PA, which has the possibility to work as an intrinsically bus system. Installation of Profibus DP RS485 For new installations it is recommended to use cable type A. The maximum segment length with this cable type is given in the right hand mentioned table. The green coloured wire is defined as data wire A, the red coloured wire is defined as data wire B. If a 9-pin D-sub connector (IP 20) shall be used, the green wire (A) shall be connected on pin 8, the red wire (B) shall be connected with pin 3. If a M12 connector (IP 67) shall be used, the green wire (A) shall be connected on pin 2, the red wire (B) shall be connected with pin 4. The screen should have contact with the whole cross section to the metallic housing and optional to pin 1 of the 9 pin d-sub connector respectively pin 5 of the M 12 connector. It is important that at each end of the segment a bus termination is made to reduce reflections. To get the best screening efficiency it is necessary to connect the screen on both ends of the cable. To eliminate a screen current as result of different earth potential, it is necessary to follow a safe grounding concept. Special care should be taken into account when RS 485 should be intrinsically safe. Therefore it is necessary to follow the IEC 60079 or the relevant national standards. Installation Guideline Installation of Profibus DP Fibre optic The max length of one fibre optic line depends on the fibre specification. For multimode 62.5/125 µm fibres the max. length is 1,700 m, for monomode 9/125 µm fibres the max. length is 10,000 m and for plastic 980/1000 µm fibres the max. length is 24 m based on the standard power source. The connector shall be suitable for the used fibre. A typical cable for the ST-connector shall be a tight buffer type with strength member around each fibre. It is only allowed to used plastic fibre optic cables without any strength member crimped to the connector. The connector fibre optic cables are typical indoor cables. For outdoor use it is recommended to use watertight cables in loose tube technology. Such cables should be connected to the indoor cables by using suitable splicing boxes. The fibre optic lines shall be made of non-metallic cables. If metallic coverings are necessary to recognise the environmental conditions, the metallic coverings have to be grounded in a suitable way. Installation of Profibus PA In respect of the sensitive areas, for which Profibus PA is designed, it is recommended to take always cable type A. Cable type A fulfils the requirements specified for EEx ib IIC/IIB in the FISCO model (Fieldbus Intrinsically Safe Concept). For new installations it is recommended to use the cable type A. The maximum length of the Profibus PA trunk and drop cables is 1,900 m without any repeater. The green coloured wire is defined as data wire A, the red coloured wire is defined as data wire B. If a M12 connector (IP 67) will be used, the green wire (A) would be connected on pin 3, the red wire (B) would be connected with pin 1. The screen should have contact with the whole cross section to the metallic housing and/or optional to pin 4 of the M 12 connector. The drop cables are connected to the trunk cable by T-connectors. It is important that at each end of the segment a bus termination is made to reduce reflections. To get the best screening efficiency it is necessary to connect the screen on both ends of the cable, but this could be in contradiction to the earthing concept for IS-systems. Mounting Instruction Fast Assembly -procedure 1. Calibration of the knifes within the stripping tool to the geometry of the cable construction by using the adjusting screws. 2. Match up the cable end to the relevant length needed for the connector. 3. Insert the cable end into the stripping tool and clamp the cable firmly by using the pressure rolls. 4. Rotate the stripper in the direction which is defined by the arrow applied on the stripping tool. Execute about 4 turns. 5. Pull the stripping tool out of the cable while the clamp is still closed. The stripped sheath and screen should be displaced out of the stripping tool. 6. Bend the twisted pair with covering at the end of the screen. The covering will burst open and should be stripped. Foundation Fieldbus Scope The foundation fieldbus system is defined in ISA standard 50.02 section 24. The physical layer is also implemented in the international standard IEC 61158 part 2. The transmission is known as H1 (31.25Kbit/s) specially designed for the process automation with a low power signal concept that allows also the protection Exi for hazardous locations. Wiring The recommended cable is described as cable type A. The typical characteristics are: Conductor size: AWG 18 Shield coverage: min. 90% Conductor resistance: max. 22 Ω/km Capacitance unbalance to shield: max. 2 nf/km Attenuation at 39 khz: max. 3.0 db/km Impedance at 31.25 khz: 100Ω ± 20Ω Wire limitations are based on the voltage drop of the power supply and /or the max. allowed attenuation. The max. acceptable voltage drop is depending on the voltage level of the power conditioner and the minimum voltage, which is acceptable for the device. Each instrument supplier specifies these values. Example: Basic practices consider calculations with a power source of approx. 24 V and acceptable min. device levels of 9 V. So the max. voltage drop should not exceed 15 V. The voltage drop is a result of the loop resistance and the current on the cable. It should be below the above-calculated value. The max. acceptable attenuation is influenced by the voltage level of the coupler (Source) and the device as well as the distortion. The cable type B, C and D should be noted as general information if consisting old cabling systems shall be switched to the transmission of FF. The polarity of the system is defined as: (+) orange coloured wire, (-) blue coloured wire Most installations follow the topology of a Bus or tree with spurs. However it is recommended to minimise the spur length as much as it is possible. For intrinsically safe systems it is mandatory to mark the cables in that way,for it can be easy distinguished from non-is wiring.
