19. Subject Plan of English 2002~2003 1. Purposes 1.1 To develop an enjoyment of learning English in Key Stage 1. 1.2 To develop an ever-improving capability to use English in Key Stage 2. 2. Particulars 2.1 The school provides a high degree of autonomy for each subject panel. Any changes or reforms within the subject are usually supported by the school. 2.2 An additional senior teacher of English is provided by ED to provide curriculum leadership in the teaching of English. 2.3 37.5% of the panel members have attained an average proficiency level of the English Language Proficiency Requirement. 2.4 88% of the panel members are subject-trained English teachers. Their knowledge enhances the effectiveness of content modification. 2.5 Panel members are hard-working and open-minded. They are ready to take up responsibility and implement new policies to new situations. 2.6 Teaching packages for P. 4-6 have been developed. 2.7 A comprehensive and systematic phonics programme of P.1-4 has been developed. 3. Issues to be addressed 3.1 Strengths 3.1.1 Teaching packages for P.1-2 on shared-book approach have been developed. 3.1.2 Reading lesson teaching framework and Reading Lesson Handbook have been developed. 3.1.3 Extra funding is allocated to employ a school NET. 3.1.4 A NET is provided by ED to further develop the teaching packages for P.6. 3.1.5 Rich resources such as reference books and videos are provided for teachers references. 3.1.6 Professional support is provided by CECES to train up P.1-P.3 teachers to develop the project skills in English Language Learning in Hong Kong Primary Schools Project. 3.1.7 Some teachers have the experience of using SBA to teach English. 3.2 Weaknesses 3.2.1 Some teachers are still new to teaching English. 3.2.2 Lack of parents support as most of the parents do not know English. 01a80302-23- 2006/9/10
