Today s translation teaching aims at turning out professional translators for the real world and translation is made to appeal to and persuade its reader. Based on the working definition of rhetoric the article discusses the relationship between translation and rhetoric and the importance of developing rhetorical awareness in teachers and students of translation from the following aspects audience centrality rhetorical power of language used in the translation identification in form and content as well as strategic coercion to influence the audience.
