Urban Rea lism and Image of M odern Be ij ing from L itera ture Perception (by W ang Jun) T h is paper selects several typ ical literatu re descrip tion s from famou s w riters such as L ao She, to analysis the characteristics of u rban im age of modern Beijing, in the aspects of m u2 n icipal con struction, the landm ark s of modern city, the cogn ition difference to the u rban in2 ternal secto rṡ W ith the abundan t tex ts, the au tho r believe that the im age of modern Beijing is the reco rds of percep tion, feeling and moods from several w riters, in addition to the reality m aterials and faithfu l m un icipal docum en tṡ T he literatu re selected here, such as Beijing: in modern w riting, O ld Beijing: in w riter s m ind, Beijing: the city of m ind, the o ld sto ries of cu ltu ral cap ital, etc, are w ell- seller and availab le fo r popular reading. T he ideas pass dow n to p resen t is that the o ld Bejing experienced the m un icipal imp rovem en t, the city gates of T ian an m en, Q ian m en, becam e landm ark s and traffic node of modern city. T he daily life of BeJ ing citizen s w as ease, and relaxes. T he city, w ith grand w all around and m agn ificen t Fo rb idden C ity in the cen ter, w as hono red celestial city o r u rban in heaven, w h ile the reality w as far than literatu re fan tasy. T he m ain reason of creating such u rban im age, the au tho r be2 lieve, is that BeJ ing w as the rep resen tation of Ch inese city w ith traditional cu ltu re reflection, w ith con trast to modern city w ith w estern civilization. Sen sa tion And Rea lity: The D escr iption of the R iver Landscape of the M iddle and L ower Reaches of Han R iver in the Poem s and Articles of the Song D yna sty a s W ell Its Explana tion s (by Pan Chen) Sen sation, though a discrepancy from reality, is con sidered one of the resou rce of hu2 m an geography know ledge. T herefo re, the selection of the sen sation know ledge in the docu2 m en tation is one of the effective app roaches to p resen t the geography landscape in h isto ry. O n the base of the analysis of the concerned docum en tation in the poem s and articles in Song dynasty. T he au tho r reaches the fo llow ing conclu sion s: T he m iddle and low er reaches of H an R iver had the featu res of fu ll grow th of flood p lain and m eander on the w ho le and distinct seasonal variation s of its run off and silt con ten t du ring Song dynasty. A t the sam e tim e, the au tho r m akes som e fledgling exp lanation on the silt con ten t of H an R iver du ring Song dy2 nasty in term s of: natu ral geography, regional developm en t, land u se, traffic roads, battles, etc. 3. Fangbo System in the W estern Zhou D yna sty Ba sed on the In scr iption on N i Zhong- - the ReveredM r. Chu (by W ang J ian) Fangbo in the W estern Zhou dynasty, is a ch ief regional p rince, w ho held the pow er to 156

T here are tw o channels in term s of Fangbo s fo rm ation: the first one w as fo rm ed by being enfeoffed by ru lers in Zhou dynasty e. g. the state of Q i; the second w as the ou tcom e of Fangbo s being pow erfu l w h ich p resen ted a fait accomp li, o r it m igh t be acknow ledged by Zhou dynasty, e. g. the state of Chu and Xu. Fangbo system w as p ractised in the early W estern Zhou dynasty and w as the con tinuation of Fangbo po licy in Shang dynasty. T he occu rrence of Fangbo system resu lted in a th ree- grade structu re (K ing of Zhou- Fangbo- nob les) of the po litical and geograph i2 cal pattern of the W estern Zhou dynasty in som e areas from the very beginn ing. How ever, the academ ic circle hasn t given due atten tion to the study of Fangbo system of the W estern Zhou dynast fo r long. T he unearthed in scrip tion on N i Zhong- - the revered M ṙ Chu from the grave of P rinc of J in has p rovided valuab le m aterial fo r studying Fangbo system of the W estern Zhou dynasty. In the ligh t of the docum en t, the article has m ade a p relim inary su r2 vey of Fangbo system concern ing its fo rm ation, featu res and the relation betw een Fangbo, K ing of Zhou and o rdinary p rinces under an empero r. 4. Research on a Few Problem s about Qin Cap ita l of X ianyang (by Sh i Ruibao) T h is essay emphasisly discu sses the con tro lled region of Q in cap ital of X ianyang and its function as regional layou t of the city. A ffected by the reco rds of San Fu Yellow M ap, peop le con sidered that the con tro lled region Q in cap ital of X ianyang and N eish i w as sim ilaṙ T he essay u tilizes docum en ts and unearthed data of in scrip tion s on po ttery. It w an ts to illu s2 trate that the con tro lled region in the Q in cap ital of X ianyang w as on ly lim ited in a confines of a coun ty app rox im ately. A Study of the Popula tion of the X in ing W e i D ur ing the M ing D yna sty (by Rong N ing) T he arm y and the populace that lived in X in ing district w ere under the con tro l of the X in ing W ei du ring M ing dynasty. T he population of the X in ig district w as on ly reco rded by the encyclopaedia. But there w as m uch p rob lem in the reco rd, so b ring som e difficu lties on the local h isto ry research.
