Through a period of lear ning f oreign experiences in 198021984, a nd established two stations, Great Wall a nd Zhongsha n, in 1984 a nd 1989 respectively, a nd p urchased t he icebreaker Xue L ong, t henone vessel two sta2 tions system f or carrying on Chinese Antarctic research p rograms independently beca me true. Since 1990, China has carried out f our of five year pla n f or the Antarctic research. According to the in2 st ruct of Mr. Deng Xiaoping,to make contribution to t he peacef ul use of t he A ntarctic, China has sent out 24 national Antarctic re2 search expeditions, and carried out various scientific progra ms both inland and on southern Ocean, significant progress has been made. A mong them, results in study of krill, ice sheet, meteorology and environment, ozone, a nd meteorite, are not only revealing t he se2 cret of nature a nd increasing knowledge, but also valuable to evalu2 ate possibility and risk in peacef ul use of natural resources in A nt2 arctic region.
