11 From Saying to Image An Interpretation of Rilke s Early Poetics LU Yingfu The Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke s early poems have been ignored by academia for a long time and then a chance to interpret Rilke s poetics as a whole is lost. In this article Rilke s two collections of poems Book of Hours and The Book of Image will be analyzed in order to reveal Rilke s unique reflections on the major theme of western modern literature and the meaning of Dasein. Sidelong Glance The Cognitive Mechanism in Edgar Allan Poe s Fictional Aesthetics YU Lei Edgar Allan Poe regards sidelong glance among other factors as the major cognitive motivation behind his secret writing and hence advocates taking suggestive glimpses at the essential moral issues so as to reach an exquisite logic counterpoint with the technique of turning toward it the exterior portions of the retina. In light of this the article centers upon three sporadically emergent propositions in Poe s fictional world Truth is stranger than fiction suggestive glimpese and things external to the game for poetic analysis concluding that their functional fulfillments all bear cognitively upon sidelong glance as a principle of visual poetics. The George Circle A Community with the Greek Educational Eros as the Core YANG Hongqin Stefan George was not only a preeminent German poet in the late 19th and early 20th centuries but also famous for his circle a circle often misunderstood because of the mystique and rumors surrounding it. The present article regards the George Circle as a special case of the modern community and attempts to explore the ancient Greek educational Eros as the core of its formation and analyze the educational Eros that is reflected in George s poems.
