3 Overview C5111, C5112, and C5113 Conductivity Probes are used to measure conductivity in aqueous solutions. The body part of these probes is made of glass and the sensing element is made of platinum. They are used with the 3200C Conductivity Meter or similar meters. WARNING Use this probe according to the operating manual to avoid personal injury. WARNING The probe solution can cause chemical burns or illness if it is taken orally or contacted by human skin. Use protective clothing or gloves to avoid contact. In case of contact, rinse contacted area with tap water or deionized water thoroughly. CAUTION The probe body material is glass. 7 Operation Preparing the probe 1 Unscrew the storage bottle cap and remove the storage bottle and cap from the probe. 2 Store the storage bottle upright for future use. 3 Soak the measuring tip in absolute ethyl alcohol, exchanging the ethyl alcohol twice. 4 Soak the probe in deionized water for at least 20 minutes. Measurement 1 Connect the probe to the meter. 2 Input the temperature of the solution and the probe cell constant according to the meter operating manual. 3 Calibrate the probe according to procedure listed in the meter operating manual. 4 Soak the measuring tip in calibration solutions, and gently swing the probe several times. 5 When the reading becomes stable, read the value on the meter. 6 After measurement, rinse the measuring tip and swing it to dry. Operating hints The measuring tip is made of glass and platinum. Before measurement, be certain that the sample solution is compatible with these materials and will not damage the measuring tip. The platinum black sheet in C5111 is loose. Do not touch it to any solid matter, or use it to measure sample solutions with high viscosity. Damage to the platinum black sheet may cause inaccurate measurement. Calibrate the cell constant of the conductivity probe periodically. Do not apply force to the probe cap, cable or cable interface. 8 Maintenance After a period of using the probe, the cell constant may change. It is recommended to calibrate the cell constant periodically. During calibration, fully soak the measuring tip in calibration solution. Calibrate the cell constant according to the operating manual of the meter. Table 2 lists the standard solutions for calibration of cell constant and their conductivity. 9 Cleaning of C5112 and C5113 conductivity probe Cleaning of inorganics 1 Soak the measuring tip in 0.1mol/L HCl or EDTA solution for 15 minutes. 2 Rinse with deionized water. Cleaning of organics 1 Soak the measuring tip in absolute alcohol or other solvent that can dissolve organics for 15 minutes. 2 Rinse the tip with deionized water. Cleaning of grease 1 Soak the measuring tip in warm weakly alkaline detergent for 15 minutes. 2 Rinse the probe with deionized water. Cleaning of protein precipitate 1 Soak the measuring tip in 0.1mol/L HCl solution that contains 1% pepsin for 15 minutes. 2 Rinse the probe with deionized water. Probe restoration 1 Polish the platinum sheet gently with abrasive cloth. 2 Rinse the probe with deionized water. Troubleshooting Meters Refer to the related section in the meter operating manual. 10 Probe Storage 1 Connect the probe to the meter. Input the cell constant and temperature of KCl calibration solution according to the meter operating manual. 2 Soak the measuring tip in KCl calibration solution. Read the conductivity value from the meter. 3 Compare the reading with theoretical conductivity value of KCl calibration solution. 4 Check if the error is within the range required by the user. If the error is beyond the range, clean and restore the probe according to Probe restoration on page 9. Use an effective calibration solution. Make sure the distilled or deionized water used to prepare the calibration solution meets requirements, and that the calibration solution is not contaminated or beyond its shelf life. For any other problems during probe use, contact your Agilent Technologies customer service representative. Short-term storage Soak the measuring tip in deionized water. Long-term storage 1 Install the storage bottle cap and storage bottle onto the probe body. To protect the measuring tip, keep 5-10 mm between the bottom of storage bottle and the measuring tip when installing the probe. 2 Tighten the probe bottle cap and return the probe to its storage box. 3 Store the probe in dry conditions. 10 C5111, C5112, C5113 Conductivity Probes

16 使用步骤储存方法 1 电极准备 a 旋开电极保护瓶盖, 依次取下电极保护瓶电极保护瓶盖 b 将电极测量端浸没于无水乙醇溶液中漂洗数次, 期间调换无水乙醇二次, 然后浸泡于去离子水中 20 min 以上 2 电极测量 a 将电极与仪器连接, 按照仪器说明输入电极常数值和溶液温度值, 电极常数值的标定参见下文相关部分 b 将电极测量端浸没于被测溶液中, 轻微晃动电极数次 c 待读数稳定后, 读取读数 d 测量完毕, 冲洗电极测量端并甩干短期存放将电极测量端浸于去离子水中长期存放注意事项 1 依次将电极保护瓶盖电极保护瓶安装在电极外壳上, 安装时应使电极与电极保护瓶的底部保持 5 10 mm 距离以免造成电极损坏, 并旋紧电极保护瓶盖 2 将电极放回电极包装盒内, 室温干燥保存 1 电极测量端的主要材料为玻璃和铂金, 测量前应确认被测溶液不会对电极测量端造成损伤 2 C5111 型电导电极的铂金片表面附有疏松的铂黑层, 应避免任何固体与其碰触, 也不适合测量粘度较大溶 16 C5111, C5112, C5113 电导电极

18 电极清洗和修复疑难解答 1 C5111 型电导电极的清洗 a 常规清洗 : 将电极测量端浸没于无水乙醇溶液中漂洗数次, 期间调换无水乙醇二次, 然后浸泡于去离子水中 20 min 以上 b 无机沉淀物 : 将电极测量端浸没于含 1 % 醋酸的溶液中 5 min, 然后进行常规清洗 2 C5112 C5113 型电导电极的清洗 a 无机物清洗 : 将电极测量端浸没于 0.1 mol/l HCl 或 0.1 mol/l EDTA 溶液中 15 min, 然后用去离子水冲洗 b 有机物清洗 : 将电极测量端浸没于无水乙醇 ( 或能够溶解该有机物的溶剂 ) 中 15 min, 然后用去离子水冲洗 c 油脂类清洗 : 将电极测量端浸没于温热的弱碱性洗涤剂中 15 min, 然后用去离子水冲洗 d 蛋白质沉淀的清洗 : 将电极测量端浸没于 1 % 胃蛋白酶的 0.1 mol/l 盐酸溶液中 15 min, 然后用去离子水冲洗 e 电极修复 : 使用细砂皮, 轻轻打磨铂金片表面, 然后用去离子水冲洗电极使用中发现异常情况, 请按下列步骤查找原因仪器参看仪器说明书的相关部分查看仪器电极校正溶液等相关部分之间的衔接 18 C5111, C5112, C5113 电导电极
