2 WARNING Dangerously high voltages are present inside the TV. TV operating voltage: V AC. Do not plug in the power cord until you have completed making all other connections; otherwise a minimum leakage current might flow through the antenna and other terminals to ground. To avoid battery leakage and damage to the remote, remove the batteries from the remote if you are not going to use it for several days. If any liquid leaks from the batteries and touches your skin, immediately wash it away with water. For your own safety, do not touch any part of the TV, the power cord and the antenna cable during lightning storms. For children s safety, do not leave children alone with the TV. Do not allow children to climb onto it. To prevent fire or shock hazard, do not expose the TV to rain or moisture. Do not place any objects on the TV. The apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing and that no objects filled with liquids, such as vases, shall be placed on the apparatus. Do not operate the TV if any liquid or solid object falls into it. Have it checked immediately by qualified personnel only. Install the TV on a stable TV stand and floor which can support the TV set weight. Ensure that the TV stand surface is flat and its area is larger than the bottom area of the TV. Do not block the ventilation openings of the TV. Do not install the TV in a confined space, such as a bookcase or built-in cabinet. Your TV is recommended for home use only. Do not use the TV in any vehicle or where it may be subject to excessive dust, heat, moisture or vibrations. Do not plug in too many appliances to the same power socket. Do not damage the power cord. Do not open the cabinet and the rear cover of the TV as high voltages and other hazards are present inside the TV. Refer servicing and disposal of the TV to qualified personnel. Clean the TV with a dry and soft cloth. Do not use benzine, thinner, or any other chemicals to clean the TV. Do not attach anything (e.g., adhesive tape, cellophane tape, glue) on the painted cabinet of the TV. Do not scratch the picture tube. Pull the power cord out by the plug. Do not pull the power cord itself. Even if your TV is turned off, it is still connected to the AC power source (mains) as long as the power cord is plugged in. Unplug the TV before moving it or if you are not going to use it for several days. 2

4 Installation x Securing the TV To prevent the TV from falling, use the supplied screws, clamps and band to secure the TV. 20 mm 3.8 mm screws clamps band Screw the band to the TV stand and to the provided hole at the rear of your TV. or () Put a cord or chain through the clamps. (2) Screw one clamp to a wall or pillar and the other clamp to the provided hole at the rear of your TV. or () Attach each end of a cord or chain to the provided holders at the rear of your TV. (2) Securely fix the attached cord or chain to a wall or pillar using an attachment which can support the TV set weight. Note Use only the supplied screws. Use of other screws may damage the TV. 4 Installation

5 Installation x Getting Started Step b Insert the batteries (supplied) into the remote. Note Do not use old or different types of batteries together. Step 2 Connect the antenna cable (not supplied) to 8 (antenna input) at the rear of the TV. Tip You can also connect your TV to other optional components (see page 33). Step 3 b Plug in the power cord, then press! on the TV to turn it on. Note The (standby) indicator flashes green for a few seconds when turning on the TV. This does not indicate a malfunction. Step 4 Set up the TV by following the instructions of the Initial Setup menu (see page 6). End Installation 5

6 x Setting up your TV ( Initial Setup ) When you turn on your TV for the first time, the Initial Setup menu will appear. You may change the menu language, preset the TV channels automatically, sort or edit the channels and adjust the picture position using the buttons on the remote control or TV front panel. Press V or v to select the desired menu language, then press. The selected menu language appears. End 2 Press V or v to select Yes, then press to preset the channels automatically. The screen will indicate automatic presetting is in progress. After all available channels have been tuned and stored, the Program Sorting/Edit menu appears automatically on the screen. To skip automatic channel presetting, select No, then press. Program: TV System: VHF Low End 0 Auto If the message No channel found. Please connect cable/antenna appears, check your TV connections, then press. End 3 The Program Sorting/Edit menu enables you to sort and edit the channels. a) If you wish to keep the channels in the current condition, press WEGA GATE to exit. b) Press V or v to select the program number with the channel you wish to change. The selected channel will appear on the screen. c) If you wish to store the channels in a different order: ) Press b to enter sorting mode. 2) Press V or v to select the new program number position for your selected channel, then press B. 7 Installation d) If you wish to edit the channels, press to change to edit mode. Press b until the mode that you wish to edit is highlighted: Label, Skip, (block symbol). Then press. ) To label, press V or v to select the alphanumeric characters for the label. Then press. 05 Exit 2) To skip the program number, press V or v to select On. Then press. To allow this menu to appear again, select Yes, then press. Tip You can immediately go to the end of the Initial Setup menu by pressing WEGA GATE. Note Before adjusting Picture Rotation and Picture V-Position, keep external speakers or other electrical equipment away from the TV. The magnetic disturbance from these equipments or the direction of the earth s magnetic field may affect the TV. Installation 7

12 x Using the wide screen mode The wide screen mode feature allows you to watch the picture filling the 6:9 screen of the TV. Watching the picture in wide screen mode automatically Auto Wide The TV automatically selects optimum wide screen mode according to the signal input and displays the picture to fill the 6:9 screen. The examples in the table below show the settings preset at the factory; Auto Wide is set to On and 4:3 Default is set to Wide Zoom in the Wide Screen menu (see page 27). When receiving Auto Wide The picture changes to functions to select normal 4:3 aspect ratio picture with or without an ID- or WSS signal. letter box picture with an ID- or WSS signal. Wide Zoom* Zoom Black bands may appear on the top and bottom of the screen. squeezed picture with an ID- or WSS signal. Full 720p/080i format signal (HDTV 6:9 picture). Full An HDTV 6:9 picture is always displayed in Full mode. * When a normal 4:3 picture is received, Wide Zoom mode is automatically selected with the factory setting. You can display picture as it is without enlarging it ( Normal mode) if you set 4:3 Default in the Wide Screen menu to Normal (see page 27). Note The Auto Wide feature may not work correctly depending on the quality of signal. In this case, select the wide screen mode manually using the button (see page 3). 2 Advanced Operations

13 Watching the picture in wide screen mode manually Press repeatedly until the mode indication you want is displayed on the screen PROG Wide Zoom V Center: 00 Zoom V Center: 00 Normal Full OPTION TV Notes You can also select the wide screen mode manually using the menu (see page 27). When the wide screen mode is selected by pressing the button on the remote or using the menu, the Auto Wide feature does not work temporarily. The Auto Wide feature functions again when: you change a TV channel. you change the video input. the TV is turned off and on again. the signal format is changed. The 720p/080i format signal (HDTV 6:9 picture) is always displayed in Full mode. In Wide Zoom or Zoom mode, you can adjust the vertical position of the picture (V Center) by using remote control. While V Center: 00 in Wide Zoom or Zoom mode is displayed for three seconds, press V or v to adjust the vertical position, then press. Advanced Operations 3

14 x Enjoying the WEGA Theatre Mode with center speaker WEGA THEATRE 2 +/ The WEGA Theatre Mode enables you to enjoy the best picture, sound and surround effect of a cinema from a DVD source. You can use your TV speaker as the center speaker of your audio system for optimum vocal enhancement and control its sound volume from the remote of the TV. Setting up WEGA Theatre Mode WEGA THEATRE RETURN OPTION TV VIDEO 4 Advanced Operations A/B PROG INDEX PROG WEGA GATE. Connect the center speaker terminals of the amplifier to the center speaker input terminal on the TV (see page 35). 2. the proper video input and center speaker mode from WEGA Theatre Setup menu and turn on (main power) the connected equipment (see page 3). 3. See the table below. If the connected equipment is a Sony audio/video equipment, you can set up the remote to work with the connected equipment (see page 9). To switch to WEGA Theatre Mode Press adjust center 2 +/. speaker volume WEGA THEATRE. Be sure to aim the remote control at the TV set and connected equipment for about one second after the button is pressed. The connected equipment turns on automatically from standby mode and will start playing (only for Sony audio/video equipment). The Picture Mode and Sound Mode will switch automatically to Custom and you can adjust the setting to your personal preference (see pages 24 and 26). Notes Be sure to place your TV and connected Sony equipment adjacent to each other so that you can control both the TV and the connected equipment by using the TV s remote control at the same time (see page 9). The WEGA Theatre and center speaker modes are automatically cancelled when you change the input mode or turn the TV off and on again. When the TV is in the center speaker mode, you cannot use the Twin pictures feature, change the surround sound and the Intelligent Volume mode. Some Sony equipment might not respond properly when WEGA THEATRE button is pressed. In this case, use the equipment s own remote control. To use the TV s speakers as the center speaker, you can also display Center Speaker from Sound menu and select On (see page 25).

15 x Viewing two programs at the same time With the Twin pictures feature, you can display two different TV program or video input at the same time. 0 8 V/v/B/b VIDEO WEGA THEATRE A/B PROG INDEX WEGA RETURN GATE OPTION TV PROG To display Twin pictures Press. Hold b to increase the right screen size. Sound will swap automatically to the screen which is increasing in size. ing TV program from TV in WEGA GATE menu (see page 20) using PAP (Picture And Picture) You can select your desired TV program directly from the right picture by using V or v buttons.. Press V or v until the desired program appears on the right picture. 2. Press (or b) to display the right picture in full screen. Notes You cannot change the picture size or swap the two pictures in the PAP mode. HD (high-definition) and DVD input signals are not available in the right picture. If you swap HD and DVD input signals from the left picture, the function is not available or the signal will not be displayed properly. This does not indicate a malfunction. You cannot change the picture to a video input in the right picture. You can only display a video input in the right picture by swapping the video input from the left picture. The Twin pictures feature is not available when the TV is in the center speaker mode (see page 4) and you cannot set the TV to the center speaker mode while viewing the Twin pictures. You can only enjoy stereo sound from the left picture. For the T (monitor output) terminals, the video output signal will follow the left picture on the screen and the audio output signal will follow the sound from your TV speaker. Due to different video processors used, it is normal that the picture quality of the right picture might be slightly different from the left picture. Advanced Operations 5

16 x Displaying multiple programs The Program Index feature displays all tuned TV programs scrolling on the screen for direct selection. PROG INDEX V/v/ WEGA THEATRE VIDEO A/B PROG INDEX Press PROG INDEX. The current program is displayed on the left. The first tuned program is displayed on the bottom right of the screen, then frozen. It scrolls up and the next program appears on the bottom-right until all tuned programs appear one by one. WEGA RETURN GATE PROG 2 3 Press V or v until the program you want to view is displayed in the frame, then press. To return to scrolling, press V or v again. Press again to enlarge the selected program into the left frame. OPTION TV 4 Press PROG INDEX. The selected program is displayed in full screen ,, 0 8, 8 Note When displaying multiple programs, only the sound of the left picture is heard. 6 Advanced Operations

17 x Enjoying stereo or bilingual programs You can enjoy stereo sound or bilingual programs of NICAM and A2 stereo systems by using the A/B button. 18 x Viewing Teletext Some TV stations broadcast an information service called Teletext which allows you to receive various information, such as stock market reports and news. You can use the buttons on the remote to view Teletext. (red, green, yellow, blue), VIDEO WEGA THEATRE A/B PROG INDEX WEGA RETURN GATE OPTION TV PROG To Do this display a Teletext Press. Setting up the remote to work with other connected equipment While keeping VIDEO?/ pressed, press the corresponding number button for the desired equipment (see the chart below). 21 x Settings Adjustment You are able to change the settings of your TV from Settings in WEGA GATE menu. Press WEGA GATE button to display WEGA GATE menu. Press V or v to select Settings and press. 23 x Changing the Picture setting 2 The Picture menu allows you to adjust the picture settings. Press WEGA GATE and select Settings. Make sure the Picture icon ( ) is selected, then press. Picture DRC-MF: DRC250 Picture Mode: Vivid Picture Adjustment 3D Intelligent Picture: On 3 Press V or v to select the desired item (e.g., DRC-MF ), then press. DRC-MF To choose either DRC250 (for high density pictures), DRC00 (reduce flicker on the screen) or Progressive (reduce jitter of any small areas or scanning lines on the screen). Picture Mode choose either Vivid, Standard or Custom * (see page ). 3D Intelligent Picture optimize picture quality. Automatically, the picture will become clearer and sharper if the signal is good and noise will be reduced if the signal is noisy. Press V or v to select On, then press. To cancel, select Off, then press. End * You can adjust the setting to your personal preference in the Picture Adjustment option only when the Custom mode is selected (see page 24). Notes The DRC-MF mode is not selectable when using the Program Index feature or when the Game Mode or Twin mode is turned On. 36 x Troubleshooting If you find any problem while viewing your TV, you can either use the Factory Settings function or check the Troubleshooting guide below. If the problem persists, contact your Sony dealer. Factory Settings function Press the WEGA GATE button. Choose Settings and go to Setup ( ) menu. From Setup menu, select Factory Settings. Then select Yes and press. Your TV will go blank for a few seconds, then the Initial Setup menu will appear. Your TV will be set to factory settings, but certain problems may be solved. The wide screen mode changes spontaneously when Auto Wide is On. During a transition between two programs, the TV detects the optimum wide screen mode. During this period, an irregular wide screen mode may appear. The wide screen mode is switched automatically according to the received signal with an ID- or WSS signal. The Auto Wide feature stops working temporarily when you have pressed, and functions again when the signal format changes. To fix in the manually selected wide screen mode, set Auto Wide to Off in the Wide Screen menu (see page 27). The (standby) indicator on your TV flashes red several times after every three seconds.
