Firstly, t he paper reviews t he st udies on the trans2regional flow of social2economic elements in China1 Then, based on the survey data, it conduct s a comprehensive analysis of t he spatial characteristics of t he productive element flow such as t he inter2provincial migration, passenger railway flow, airborne passenger flow, railroad f reight flow and information flow, by adopting GIS spatial analysis and visualization tech2 niques. The spatial dist ribution of t he inter2provincial flow is influenced evidently by t he provincial economic stat us and t he pattern of inter2provincial economic relations1 The eastern China shows its great importance on the distribution of the inter2provincial flow1 The three e2 conomic heartlands of China, J ing2j in2tang (Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei), Hu2Su2Zhe ( Shanghai, J iangsu, Zhejiang) and Guangdong also act as t he main centers of inter2provincial flow1 The gravity2centers of all t he inter2provincial flows are relatively close to t he population and econom2 ic centers of China, but deviate far more from the geometric center of the territory1this means t he spatial dist ribution of inter2provincial flow is basically consistent wit h t he social and eco2 nomic situation of China1 Further, the paper concludes the spatial distribution of the flow of social2economic elements as four fundamental patterns, which are tested in each type of the flow and two holistic styles are deduced1 Key words :element flow ;inter2regional connectivity ; spatial characteristic
