3 * ()WELCOME TO TOKAI UNIVERSITY Since Tokai University was founded in 1942, it has continued to provide a comprehensive education based upon the founding philosophy of educating its students as individuals who are better fit to serve leading roles in an international society. Tokai University has thirty-one courses in seventeen graduate schools and seventy-seven departments/courses in eighteen undergraduate schools. The Tokai University Educational System consists of one university, three junior colleges, twelve high schools, six junior high schools, one elementary school, four kindergartens and various research and educational facilities here in Japan and abroad. With this vast network of institutions for research and education, we are considered the largest educational system among private universities in Japan. Furthermore, as a pioneer in international exchange programs, Tokai University is one of the first universities to develop programs for international students. We have continued to provide opportunities for international students through the Japanese Language Course and undergraduate and graduate courses of study. STUDY PLAN Those applicants who have I WISH TO STUDY AT TOKAI UNIVERSITY. insufficient Japanese language proficiency should first enroll in the Japanese Language Course at Shonan Campus of Tokai University. * After one semester, high achieving students with a good attendance record will be offered a Recommendation or Recommendation Transfer Admission to go on to the undergraduate schools (refer to page 12). INSUFFICIENT JAPANESE SKILLS STUDY AT THE JAPANESE LANGUAGE COURSE SUFFICIENT JAPANESE SKILLS Those applicants who have good Japanese proficiency do not need to GRADUATE SCHOOLS UNDERGRADUATE SCHOOLS JUNIOR COLLEGES enroll in the Japanese Language Course and can go directly to any undergraduate/graduate/junior college course by passing an entrance examination administered by Tokai University. The required level of Japanese proficiency may differ, depending on the school. 5 APPLICATION FOR JAPANESE LANGUAGE COURSE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS Spring admission (April~) Fall admission (October~) This course is open to international students of nationalities other than Japanese who desire to study at Tokai University. In this preparatory program, students undertake a one year course to develop the comprehensive Japanese skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing required at the university level of education. Lessons in fundamental subjects such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology are given for students expecting to major in science, while sociology, political science and economics, history, and Japanese culture lessons are given for those in the liberal arts. The Japanese Language Course starts in April and October and is completed in two semesters. After one semester, high achieving students with a good attendance record will be offered a Recommendation or Recommendation Transfer Admission (refer to page 12). 1. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS In order to apply for the Japanese Language Course, an applicant of foreign nationality must satisfy one of the following conditions. 1 Completion or expected completion of 12 years of formal education outside Japan or the equivalent education as recognized by Tokai University 2Completion of a course at an academic institution(s) in Japan equivalent to 1 above 3 Completion or expected completion of 12 years of education at an international school in Japan accredited by WASC, ACSI or ECIS WASC : Western Association of Schools and Colleges A C S I : Association of Christian Schools International E C I S : European Council of International Schools 4 Age and academic ability equivalent to the above, as recognized by Tokai University. (Eligibility will be decided by a screening process conducted at a date to be determined.) 3. HOW TO APPLY If you are applying from outside of Japan, please submit all the application documents (See p.5 ~ 8 1. Documents required for applicant and 2. Required documents related to applicant s financial sponsor ) in PDF to the Office of Admission Services for International Students (OASIS) at: oasis@tsc.u-tokai.ac.jp. After receiving a confirmation from Tokai University, please send the original documents by EMS to OASIS and pay the application fee. Your application may be rejected if the documents are incomplete. 4

Required documents related to applicant s financial sponsor (1) Documents not in Japanese or English must be accompanied by an official Japanese translation including the translator s name, address, phone number and date. (4) Documents issued by a company or a school must be printed on letterhead paper with its name, address, and phone number. (2) All the documents from Tokai University will be sent to the address ticked on the Attachment C-1. (3) Any inquiries regarding acceptance or rejection will not be replied to. 11 7. CERTIFICATE OF ELIGIBILITY Successful applicants who are admitted to the Japanese Language Course of Tokai University must have a Certificate of Eligibility and a Student (Ryugaku) Visa. Tokai University will apply to the Immigration Bureau for the Certificate of Eligibility on your behalf. When you receive the Certificate of Eligibility, please take it with you to the Consulate or Embassy of Japan in your home country. Please follow the application process as stated below. Note Please note that not all accepted international students will be issued a Certificate of Eligibility. Application Process Action by students Send completed documentation for enrollment Receive Certificate of Eligibility (*3) Action by Tokai University Apply for Certificate of Eligibility Send Certificate of Eligibility (*2) Action by Immigration Bureau Issue Certificate of Eligibility (*1) Apply and obtain a Student Visa via Embassy/ Consulate (*4) Entry into Japan (*5) Enrollment *1 The Certificate of Eligibility will be issued to Tokai University within two to three months after Tokai University submits the application to the Immigration Bureau. *2 All the documents from Tokai University will be sent to the address ticked on the Attachment C-1. *3 Contact persons in Japan should send the Certificate of Eligibility to the student overseas by registered mail immediately. We advise them to make a copy of it and keep it at hand. *4 After the student overseas receives the Certificate of Eligibility, he or she should apply for a Student Visa at the Japanese Embassy or Consulate in their home country as soon as possible. Showing the Certificate of Eligibility, valid passport and Letter of Admission issued by Tokai University. *5 The student must present the passport with a valid visa and the Certificate of Eligibility to an immigration inspector at the port of entry into Japan. Then students will be issued a seal of arrival in Japan, stamped on their passport. 8. REGISTRATION 1. Registration Successful applicants must complete enrollment procedures (submission of documents and payment) during the period below. Spring Admission November 21-December 8, 2016 (Japan time) Fall Admission May 22-June 9, 2017 (Japan time) Registration documents must arrive at Tokai University by mail during the above period. Refer to the enrollment information sent to successful applicants for details. 2. Refund of fees Once received, the Admission Fee will not be refunded for any reason. If you decide to cancel your enrollment at Tokai University for some reason after registration, submit the documents for cancellation of enrollment to the Admissions Services Department by registered mail or bring them in person by 5PM March 31, 2017 for Spring admission and 5PM August 31, 2017 for Fall admission. After the completion of all necessary formalities for cancellation of enrollment, all tuition and fees (except the admission fee) will be refunded. Refer to the enrollment information sent to successful applicants for details. 10

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION (1) Late registration will disqualify students from admission to Tokai University. (2) Successful applicants who applied with a Certificate stating their expected graduation/completion date from high school but cannot fulfill the graduation/completion conditions by March 31, 2017 for Spring admission and September 30, 2017 for Fall admission will not qualify for admission. (3) If false or incorrect information is found on the application or registration documents for Tokai University, admission will immediately be rejected, even after enrollment. 11

ACCREDITED SCHOOLS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS Tokai University Undergraduate Schools Note 1 The Course of Aviation, and School of Medicine are not eligible for Recommendation Admission after completion of the Japanese Language Course. 2 The Course of Aviation, School of Medicine, and School of Health Sciences are not eligible for the Recommendation Transfer Admission after the Completion of the Japanese Language Course. 15 12. PRIVACY POLICY Tokai University abides by laws concerning personal information and other related laws and regulations. Information we collect will be used in order to send an examinee s number notice, acceptance or rejection letter, documentation concerning admission procedures (e.g. application form for international students dormitory, letter of consent, letter of guarantee), screening for applicants, application for Certificate of Eligibility, information about Orientation, invitation to the entrance ceremony, as well as for issuing a student ID card, processing admission documents and contacting students for administrative purposes.
