3 CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE 主席的话 At RLB, we always strive for excellence in everything we do is an amazing year for RLB, we have made great achievements this year! I would firstly like to thank the colleagues of the Hong Kong office for your dedicated efforts and hard work, RLB HK has reached a milestone by the end of 2016: the first time to obtain ISO 14001:2015 environmental management system and OHSAS 18001:2007 occupational safety and health management system certification. Also, we have successfully renewed the ISO 9001:2015 quality management system certification to the latest version. These internationally recognised certifications are the strong evidences that our environmental management system, occupational safety and health management system as well as quality management system are well established. Moreover, more worldwide recognitions have been awarded to RLB projects in recent months, including the UNESCO Asia Pacific Heritage Awards for Green Hub project, the Royal Institute of British Architects Awards for International Excellence for the Jockey Club Innovation Tower and the Best Tall Building Worldwide for Shanghai Tower. I am also happy to know four RLB projects have won two Grand Awards, a Merit Award, a finalist and a special citation at the Green Building Award Well done everyone! Keep up with the good work! The construction market is more competitive than ever. We should always stay innovative to keep ahead of the competition. That is why the Global Board has set up a global BIM committee to actively promote BIM programs among all regional offices. Christmas is just around the corner. 4 RLB Awarded Worldwide Certification of Various Management Systems 利比荣获多项管理体系国际认证 In November 2016, RLB Hong Kong is pleased to announce the success in obtaining the certification of ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System and the OHSAS 18001:2007 Occupational Health and Safety Management System for the first time, as well as obtaining the renewal of the latest edition of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System. ISO is an internationally agreed standard in environmental management system, helping organisations improve their environmental performance through more efficient use of resources and reduction of waste, enhancing competitiveness and the trust of stakeholders. The ISO certification demonstrates RLB s continual improvement on the Company s systems and approaches to environmental concerns and also our strong commitment with proactive initiatives that boost environmental performance. OHSAS is a globally recognised framework for an occupational health and safety management system, allowing organisations to put in place the policies, procedures and controls needed to achieve the best working conditions and workplace health and safety. 5 Global Board Meeting 2016 全球董事会会议 2016 The RLB Global Board meeting was held in Adelaide, Australia on 5-6 October At the meeting, the Board reviewed construction activity around the global practice, which has been variable over the past few months. Moreover, clients have become increasingly global as demonstrated in RLB's recent wins, and the company is very well placed to service this international client base. To maintain this position, the Board is driving a strategy for knowledge sharing and global interaction. The Board is actively promoting this through our Global BIM project, the Global Marketing Committee and our planned Staff Exchange Program. The workshop included representatives ranging from junior quantity surveyors, Associates, Managers to Directors and involved the sharing of the BIM experiences of each country. The workshop included over 14 presentations with three external speakers, and the attendees formed task forces to prepare protocols, marketing materials, training materials, analytical skills guidance notes and research papers for further development of our BIM capability. The Global Board was extremely impressed with the level of commitment of the conference attendees, and has agreed to establish a global BIM Committee made up of regional BIM leaders, including dedicated representatives from Hong Kong, North America, Oceania, Singapore and United Kingdom. This committee will establish a brief and a program for the task forces to produce the deliverables accordingly. 利比于 9 月份在香港总部举行建筑信息模型工作坊, 共有 26 名来自 7 个国家的初级测量师 主任测量师 经理及董事等参与是次会议 各代表在会中分享各办事处的建筑信息模型经验 工作坊进行了 14 场的演讲, 其中 3 场由客席嘉賓主讲 其后, 参加者进行分组讨论, 为标准设定 市场推广 培训 分析技巧及研究等不同范畴成立工作小组, 以便继续跟进及制定成果文件 全球董事会对是次工作坊的成效予以高度肯定, 并成立由香港 北美洲 大洋洲 新加坡及英国地区代表组成的全球建筑信息模型委员会, 以制定及推行与建筑信息模型相关的指引及时间表让工作小组跟进 5

6 Four RLB Projects Pick Up Accolades At Green Building Award 2016 四个利比项目荣获 环保建筑大奖 2016 On 22 November 2016, four RLB projects won two Grand Awards, a Merit Award, a finalist and a special citation at the Green Building Award Co-organised by the Hong Kong Green Building Council and the Professional Green Building Council, this biennale award is one the highest accolades in Hong Kong recognising the concerted effort and commitment of the industry in sustainable built environment. The four winning projects are: The Revitalisation of the Old Tai Po Police Station into a Green Hub Grand Award and Special Citation in Eco-Service Infrastructure Network of the Existing Buildings Category (Completed Projects Institutional Building) The winning project re-uses the historic Old Tai Po Police Station to demonstrate sustainable living with architecture, heritage and nature through collaboration with the community. The Green Hub aims to provide an influential landmark for Hong Kong to promote sustainable living and integrated conservation. Ko Shan Theatre New Wing Grand Award of the New Buildings Category (Completed Projects Institutional Building) The Ko Shan Theatre New Wing aims at providing a performance venue amongst the greenery of the park. The curves and straight lines in its architectural design increase greening areas, while the bright and transparent design brings in lots of natural daylight. Various forms of energy efficient features and renewable energy features are adopted for environmental benefits. The Open University of Hong Kong The Jubilee College Ko Shan Theatre New Wing 高山剧场新翼 Merit Award of the New Buildings Category (Completed Projects Institutional Building) Hang Seng Management College Finalist of the New Buildings Category (Completed Projects Institutional Building) The Green Building Awards provides recognition of RLB s dedicated effort in building a greener community. 8 Green Hub Wins UNESCO Awards 2016 绿汇学苑荣获 2016 年联合国教科文组织 奖项 In September 2016, RLB s Green Hub Project (The revitalisation of Old Tai Po Police Station) was awarded an Honourable Mention in UNESCO Asia Pacific Heritage Awards This is also the only winning heritage project from Hong Kong. Established in 2000, UNESCO Asia Pacific Heritage Awards aims at recognising and encouraging private efforts and public-private initiatives in successfully restoring structures of heritage value in the region. The Green Hub is originally the Old Tai Po Police Station, a Grade 1 listed historic building built in It was the first police station and police headquarters in the New Territories. Under Batch II of the Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme, the historic site has been transformed to Green Hub for promoting sustainable living by Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden in 年 9 月, 利比参与建设的绿汇学苑 ( 旧大埔警署的活化计划 ) 于 2016 年联合国教科文组织亚太区文物古迹保护奖 获颁荣誉奖, 此项目亦是香港唯一获奖的活化项目 成立于 2000 年的联合国教科文组织亚太区文物古迹保护奖, 旨在嘉许个人及公私营机构在修复区内具保育价值建筑物的成就 绿汇学苑前身为旧大埔警署, 建于 1899 年, 属一级历史建筑 旧大埔警署是新界首间警署及警察总部 在第二期 活化歷史建筑伙伴计划 下, 此建筑由嘉道理农场暨植物园于 2015 年活化成绿汇学苑, 以推广保育和可持续生活概念 The Jockey Club Innovation Tower Wins RIBA Prize 赛马会创新楼荣获 RIBA 杰出建筑奖 The Jockey Club Innovation Tower has recently won the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Award for International Excellence RLB is proud to have provided cost consultancy service to this winning project. The world renowned architect, the late Dame Zaha Hadid, used an irregular building geometry to maximise spatial configuration within a tight space. Unique features include a curved profile curtain wall system, together with three-dimensional twisted aluminium fins on the facades. The project involved the construction of a 15-storey building, which houses the School of Design for the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Hong Kong Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation. 9 Shanghai Tower Named Best Tall Building Worldwide 2016 上海中心被称为 2016 世界最佳高层建筑 Shanghai Tower, RLB s landmark project, was awarded the Best Tall Building Worldwide' at the 15th Annual Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) Awards Ceremony and Dinner on 3 November 2016 at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago. Shanghai Tower was selected at the end of a year-long process, from among 132 entries from 27 countries around the globe. The innovative design used is based on traditional Shanghainese architectural style of blending indoor and outdoor area. The double-glass facade provides sustainability and the tapering spiral shape at the top was designed to minimise wind loads. Recognised as one of the world s greenest skyscrapers, Shanghai Tower achieved LEED Platinum certification. RLB is proud to have provided full quantity surveying service to this tallest skyscraper in China. 10 Supporting The Council On Tall Buildings And Urban Habitat 全力支持世界高层建筑与都市人居学会 RLB is pleased to join the Patron Membership of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) for five years. The CTBUH is the world s leading body in the field of tall buildings and sustainable cities. It is a non-profit organisation with a dual mission to disseminate multidisciplinary best practice information, and facilitate business exchange amongst its international network. The organisation holds an international conference every year, to provide an opportunity to industry professionals for learning from distinguished experts on the latest tall buildings, infrastructure and urban development, as well as networking with top, internationally-influential people in the industry. This year, the CTBUH International Conference was held at Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Hong Kong in October. RLB has further extended our support to CTBUH by joining the Silver + Coffee Break sponsorship at the Shenzhen conference. Mr. Stephen Lai, Managing Director of RLB and also the CTBUH Advisory Group s member, was invited to speak at a discussion on the Economic Considerations at the Shenzhen conference. 11 HSMC Jockey Club Residential Colleges Attains Beam Plus Final Platinum Rating 恒生管理学院赛马会住宿书院荣获 绿建环评 最终铂金认证 RLB s HSMC Jockey Club Residential Colleges project has recently attained the final platinum rating of the Building Environmental Assessment Method (BEAM) Plus by the Hong Kong Green Building Council, the highest of sustainability award in building construction. Following the S H HO Academic Building (Block A), Lee Quo Wei Academic Building (Block D) and Sports and Amenities Centre (Block B), the HSMC Jockey Club Residential Colleges is the fourth building under Hang Seng Management College campus expansion project to receive the same rating of Beam Plus. The four new buildings, whereas RLB is appointed to provide a full scope of cost consultancy and management services, are also the first of its kind in Hong Kong to receive such recognition. The residential colleges comprise three blocks, providing 400 accommodation rooms with 1,200 bed spaces. A number of environmentfriendly measures are adopted at the Colleges including renewable energy systems for rainwater, greywater recycling systems and solar panels on the rooftops for power supply. 12 Meeting With RICS President 与皇家特许测量师学会主席会面 Miss Amanda Clack, RICS President, visited Hong Kong in September and Chairman Mr. Philip Lo had a personal meeting with her to discuss on how RICS can help members in Hong Kong to promote professionalism. On 21 October, Managing Director Mr. Kenneth Kwan represented the company to meet the team and share our experiences with them. We firstly visited Two International Financial Centre and then went up to the observatory on Stubbs Road to introduce the landmark projects that RLB had taken part in. 13 Supporting Social Enterprise In RLB Calendar 年利比年历为社会企业创造机会 Embracing a true caring heart, RLB has enjoyed reaching out to help others. In our new release RLB calendar 2017, we have partnered with Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong (ADAHK), a nongovernment organisation, to produce the drawings in the design. The 12 nice drawings are prepared by the four ADAHK s Green Leaf Artist and Registered Artist with Disability, namely Miss Chiu Wai Chi, Mr. Frank Wong, Miss Chan Tung Mui and Mr. Wong Wing Hong. Shouldering the mission to promote creativity and social inclusion, ADAHK creates business initiatives by synergising the art talents of artists with disabilities so that they can contribute to the society. Through our collaboration with ADAHK, we aim to create job opportunities and increase income for artists with disabilities in Hong Kong. Moreover, the Chinese characters of our name on the cover of the calendar are from the artful hands of the renowned Hong Kong architect and calligrapher Mr. Chung Wah Nan. By making a donation of HK$60 or more, colleagues can go to work in casual wear on the event day. This year, 60 RLBers from Shaukeiwan and North Point office joined this meaningful event. 16 Vanke Run For Fun 万科城市乐跑赛 On 21 October 2016, colleagues from RLB Xian office participated in the Run for Fun organised by Vanke. Aiming to promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage people to enjoy fun and friendship through running, the event has been held at Xian for three consecutive years. RLB Xian office has been taking part in the run for the third year in support of the client's activity. Hundreds of companies participated in the run this year, providing an opportunity to communicate with each other and lay a solid foundation for future cooperation. Though it rained on the event day, everyone was still enthusiastic about the run. Beside the 5km run, we also enjoyed the fun of playing some traditional games of Qin, Han and Tang Dynasty in ancient China. 17 Orientation Day 2016 迎新日 2016 On 23 September 2016, RLB HK s Orientation Day 2016 was held at the Aberdeen Boat Club with over 50 fresh graduates from Hong Kong and Macau Office. The day started off with a briefing session to introduce our Chairman, Managing Directors, Directors and department heads, followed by a group photo taking. Arriving at the Aberdeen Boat Club, a series of teambuilding games were arranged for the new comers to familiarise themselves with each other and also learn more about RLB s history and organisational structure. Afterwards, the company invited the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) to conduct a seminar on the proper and professional practices to prevent corruption. Accompanied by the magnificent view of sunset, the new comers took a ferry to the Middle Island for a barbeque buffet dinner.
