The Design of 100Mbps Fast Ethernet Fiber Network Adapter By Chen Chaohui Abstract Network adapter which is also known as network interface card is one of the most important hardwares in computer network. And Ethernet is the most widely used in the local area network. And network adapter provides the interface between computer and network. The thesis covers the deep understanding of 100/1000Mbps Ethernet s architecture, media access control protocol, the activities on the underlying physical layer and the related network hardwares and protocols. Finally, we have designed the 100Mbps Fast Ethernet Fiber Network Adapter. The thesis has six chapters. Chapter 1 is about the basic knowledge of Ethernet, including its history, four basic elements (Frame, Media Access Control Protocol, Signal Component and Physical Medium) and a brief introduction of 100Mbps Fast Ethernet Fiber system. Chapter 2 provides an introduction to the architecture and principle of the 100Mbps Fast Ethernet Fiber Network Adapter, including its main chips components (21143-PD, LXT970 and so on). Chapter 3 is concerned about the system and circuit designs of the 100Mbps Fast Ethernet Fiber Network Adapter. And it focuses on the design of function and interface circuits, the selection of components and their layout. Chapter 4 introduces the installation and debug of the 100Mbps Fast Ethernet Fiber Network Adapter we designed. Chapter 5 tells about the Gigabit Ethernet and compares it with Fast Ethernet at the same time.
