(3)Cognitive Mechanismsin Reading AncientChinese Poetry:Evidencefrom Eye Movements Chen Qingrong and Yang Yiming 48 Ofalliteraryforms,poetryistheone withthelongesthistoryand widest circulation.ancientchinesepoetryhasbecomeoneofthemostbasiccultural genes ofthe Chinese;ithasevenshapedtheirpreference,in writingandreading,for language marked bytone paterns,antitheses,and rhyme,assonance,etc.we employedeye-trackingtechnologytoinvestigatethecognitivemechanism underlying theunderstandingofrhymeandpoeticcharacterinthereadingofancientchinese poems.ourfindingsshowthattheefectofrhymeisfeltthroughoutthereading.in otherwords,attheearlystagetheexpectation ofrhymeregulatesthepoem s rhymesandin thelaterstageitconstrainsthe understanding ofthe poem s semantics.this meansthatinsuchreading,the Chineseexpectalanguage with harmonioustonepaternsandconsonanceofformandmeaning.researchalongthese linescan provide aninitialapproach to the exploration of discourse processing mechanismsinthecontextoftraditionalchineseculture. (4)DiversityofChildren ssupportfortheirparentsinthecontextofaging:ideas andbehavior HuAnning 77 China sagingsocietyandthefamily-based modelofbasicagedcaredetermine thatchildren ssupportfortheirparentsdirectlyinfluencesthelivingstandardsof themajorityoftheagedpopulation.existingtheoriesindicatethatinaneraofsocial transition,theimplicationsoffilialpietyshiftfromthetraditionalemphasisonthe parent-childgenerationalrelationshipandchildren sdutytoobeytheirparentstoa dualisticmodeinwhichfamilylovecoexistswiththeauthorityoftheelders.onthe basisofdatafromthechinesegeneralsocialsurvey2006,weexploredthewaysin whichthetwobasicdimensionsofauthoritarianfilialpietyandreciprocalfilialpiety connectwithvarioustypesoffilialbehavior.theresultofour multivariablelinear modelshowsthatonaverage,theauthoritariantypeoffilialpietythatemphasizes authorityrelationshipsandchildren sdutiesincreaseschildren seconomicsupport fortheir parents,whilethereciprocalfilialpiety thatstressesfamilylove and generationalequalitysignificantlyincreaseschildren semotionalsupportfortheir parents.acomparisonofthetwobasicdimensionsoffilialpietyshowsthatneither significantlyincreaseschildren slaborsupportfortheirparents.afurtheranalysis oftheinteractionefectsshowsthattheconnectionbetweenauthoritarianfilialpiety 205

21 andeconomicsupportis moresignificantamongyoungergroups.inaddition,for males,a marginalysignificantpositiverelationexistsbetweenauthoritarianfilial pietyandlaborsupportforparents.
