DESCRIPTION AP1515 is a DC IRIS driver IC designed for IRIS control of lens module. AP1515 functions as an analog control input controller for a one-channel, single-end IRIS driver. The maximum output current of the output pin of AP1515 is up to 80mA. The BRC brightness control pin is to set an expected brightness for AP1515 to control IRIS module and keep the proper brightness. The video signal is fed into video input pin for AP1515 to monitor the current brightness level of video. Document No. Rev.: V0.20 Page: 5 of 9 FUNCTION DESCRIPTION Overview Figure 1 shows the typical application of AP1515 for a video signal input. An external capacitor C F is connected between CAP pin and DRV pin to perform a low pass filter for the output driver. The video signal is connected to video input pin VIN through a resistor R IN to detect the current brightness. The default brightness of IRIS module can be set by using an external variable resistor R B for the brightness control pin. If there is a difference between VIN and BRC, the error amplifier will drive IRIS module to keep a constant brightness. The maximum gain of the error amplifier is 10 and can be modified by the resistor R IN.The output voltage of DRV pin can be expressed as 1M V DRV = ( ) ( VBRC VVIDEO ) + V 100k + R IN BRC The input signal can be the DAC output of the image processor (DSP) with the built-in auto-iris control algorithms. The convergence time of the algorithm may not match with the time constant of AP1515. Change the capacitance of C F to get a suitable time constant to avoid oscillation. It is recommended to connect a variable resistor to the BRC pin to adjust the tolerance of the image sensor, IRIS module and other passive components. Document No. Rev.: V0.20 Page: 6 of 9 Figure 2 shows the PWM control of AP1515 for the MCU application. The PWM outputs are fed into the BRC and VIN pins through the RC low pass filter. The actual value of R LP and C LP depends on the frequency of PWM pulse.
