A total of 263 world top players from 22 countries and regions to participate. It had been consecutively sponsored by Yonex-Sunrise for 12 years, endorsed as M Mark event by the Major Sports Events Committee and was globally sponsored by MetLife as one of the BWF World Superseries. The grand prize money is the highest in Hong Kong Open history at US$400,000 (about HK$3.11 million). 3 To promote social inclusion, Hong Kong Wheelchair Dance Sport Association was invited to perform wheelchair dance in the opening ceremony. 12 dancers demonstrated their confidence and joy, and won applause from full-house audience by their healthy, motivational steps. Huang Yuxiang, Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong of China; the Doubles of Malaysia Tan Wee Kiong, Goh V Shem, Lee Cheuk Yiu and Or Chin Chung of Hong Kong interacted with the students and demonstrated world class skills. Hundreds of local secondary and primary school students and parents arrived the Hong Kong Coliseum at 9am. There was a 7 points friendly match following kick off ceremony. The students were amazed by these top players skills. There was another fun doubles match, international players and coaches took turn to play. It was full of laughter. Ng Ho Him, BOCHK Regional Youth Squad and Mak Chi Yan, student of Diocesan Girls' School got the chance to play against players from China and Malaysia. They both learn a lot and were excited to play against the Olympic players. After the demonstration, there were an autograph session, hundreds of fans were lining up outside the Coliseum. Tan Wee Kiong of Malaysia and Zheng Siwei of China gave good comments about the event. They said these interactive events can raise the kid s interest of badminton. There wasn t any event like that when they were a kid. Zheng said playing against hundreds of kids was not easy, and this took him a lot of strength.

15th BOCHK Family Doubles League cum Fun Day 15th BOCHK Family Doubles League cum Fun Day, hosted by HKBA and sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong), had come to its 15th anniversary.

Besides, a new session kids fun challenge was also organized to encourage participation from children below age of 5 to try badminton sports.

9 15th BOCHK Family Doubles League cum Fun Day 15th BOCHK Family Doubles League cum Fun Day, hosted by HKBA and sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong), had come to its 15th anniversary. In doubles competition this year, BOCHK sponsored several additional awards to make it much attractive. Besides, a new session kids fun challenge was also organized to encourage participation from children below age of 5 to try badminton sports. Opening ceremony for Final Award presentation cum Fun day was held on 22 January (Sunday) at Siu Sai Wan Sports Centre. Officiating guests were Mr. Tong Wai Lun BBS, MH, JP, HKBA Chairman, Mr. Barry Lo, General Manager, Channel Management of BOCHK and Dr. Wong Sau Ming, HKBA Vice Chairman. The guests presented awards to the winners of doubles competition. Following the award presentation and open ceremony, there was the demonstration of badminton skills by Hong Kong Badminton Team members. They also played with the families at the scene. Many family game booths were installed at the venue. More than 1,000 persons from communities spent the afternoon joyfully.

The Community Cup Youth Badminton Competition 2016/17 hosted by HKBA, co-organized by M-Force Badminton Team and subvented by LCSD, was held on 5 and 12 February 2017 at Tiu Keng Leng Sports Centre.

11 The Community Cup Youth Badminton Competition 2016/17 hosted by HKBA, co-organized by M-Force Badminton Team and subvented by LCSD, was held on 5 and 12 February 2017 at Tiu Keng Leng Sports Centre. 324 youth players from 12 clubs participated in the event. The players fought with their full strength for best result. About 550 players and spectators attended to watch the exciting matches. Gathering Badminton Club was crowned in age below 18 and 15, while Match Badminton Club in age below 12. The BOCHK Regional Squad Selection was prepared to build up new blood for the Hong Kong Team. There are Selections in March and September each year. It is open for recommendations of potential candidates by HKBA registered coaches in January and July.

12 Hong Kong Badminton Doubles League 2017 hosted by HKBA, subvented by LCSD, was launched on 8 January. This year, there were record high of over 520 team registrations to play in Men, Women and Mixed Division. There was no admission ticket and everyone was free to watch the matches. This team championship has been very popular in schools in the past years. This year, the event will be held between 14 April and 3 May at the LCSD sport centres. Finals and award presentation will be held on 3 May (Wednesday, PH) at Wai Tsuen Sports Centre. Welcome to join. The 6th Hong Kong Games was held between 25 March and 14 May at the LCSD sports centres. It was hosted by Sports Commission of Home Affairs Bureau, coordinated by Community Sports Committee, co-organized by LCSD and Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China. HKBA was the event co-organizer. Entry closing date: 13 April. The event will be held during July and August at LCSD sports centres. Entry period will start in May.

13 Asia Mixed Team Championships Tong Yun Kai Cup To commend the effort for badminton sports development in Asia by our president Dr. Tong Yun Kai, SBS, MBE, DBA, particularly during his term as President of Badminton Asia Confederation, BAC specially named the firstly held Asia mixed team championships as Asia Mixed Team Championships Tong Yun Kai Cup.. The event was held during February 2017 at Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam. 13 countries / regions participated and Japan won the championships. Preview of International Event Sudirman Cup will be held during May 2017 at Gold Coast, Australia. A total of 32 teams will participate, 13 from Asia, 10 from Europe, 6 from Oceania, and 3 from Pan-America. China won the championships in the last 6 consecutive editions from year 2005, and total 10 in history. Korea won trice and Indonesia once.
