SFC News We have our last Parent Action Committee of the year this Thursday. It will be a chance to celebrate the hard work done by family volunteers and to plan the Project Open House (05/22 at 6pm) and 8 th grade graduation (5/25 at 6pm). We will plan upcoming fundraisers and community events for next year. If you have never been to a PAC meeting but are thinking of helping out next year and want to hear of ways to get involved please come. We you re your help! Nora, our new head teacher will be there to help us think about next year events. There will be a PAC meeting and potluck over the summer for all families (including new families to SFC) to meet, eat, and brainstorm fundraisers and community events for 2012 2013. The PAC potluck will take place in the SFC library on Wednesday, June 20 th from 6 8:30pm. Mark your calendars! Attached to this newsletter is a reading list for your child for this summer. It was put together by SFUSD librarians (including Tawnya) and has great ideas for books to read by grade level. If you know your child s reading level (A Z) you can also ask the librarian at the local library or bookstore for book recommendations on your child s reading level. Please make sure that your child continues to read every day over the summer. Time reading is the single best way children can continue learning over the summer! Please remember to sign up for the free SFC Summer Program with Ivy in the office or Ricardo during ASP. It will be at Cleveland Elementary School for K 5 students from June 7th until July 10 th. Strong Community Parent Action Committee: Thurs 05/10 at 6:00pm in room 205. Dinner and Childcare provided MZURI Mother s and Father s Day Celebration: Sat 05/11 from 11:30am-1:30pm. Strong Individuals We support students to be strong individuals through the following classroom and school activities: Project Open House is Tuesday 5/22 at 6:00pm K/1: Students have been meeting with scientists and zoologists as they learn about different kinds of animals. Students will be attending the SF Zoo on Friday to observe the animals they have been studying up close. 2/3 is focusing on the essential question, What makes a bird a bird? Students in 2/3 have engaged in bird watching, observing, and researching. Students have gone bird watching at McLaren Park, Glen Park, and Crissy Field. Students will create a bird manual and art to inform families about birds at POH. 7: Mr. Sanchez and Ellena partnered up to teach students about volcanoes and support students to write informational science research reports. In addition several students presented spoken word poetry in competition with students in other middle schools in San Francisco. Congratulations to Veronica, Mariel, Eraldy, Delante, Lulu, and Tania for stepping up and performing their poems in the slam! All families K-7 are expected to attend and see what their child has been learning this Spring! Noticias de SFC Este jueves tenemos la última reunión del Comité de Acción de Padres (PAC por sus siglas en inglés) Es una oportunidad de celebrar el trabajo duro hecho por familias voluntarias y para planear la Casa Abierta de Proyectos (22 de mayo a 6pm) y la graduación de 8 grado (25 de mayo a 6pm). Vamos a planear eventos comunitarios y para levantar fondos para el próximo año. Si nunca ha participado un una reunión del PAC pero puede ayudar el próximo año y quiere escuchar ideas sobre como involucrarse, por favor asista. Se necesita su apoyo! Nora, la nueva maestra principal, va a estar presente para ayudarnos a pensar sobre los eventos del próximo año. Durante el verano tendremos una reunión de PAC y una cena para todas las familias (incluyendo a familias nuevas a la escuela SFC) para conocerse, comer, y pensar sobre eventos para 2012-2013. La cena de PAC se llevará acabo en la biblioteca escolar en miércoles 20 de junio de 6-8:30pm. Marque sus calendarios! Junto a este noticiero hay una lista de lectura para su hijo para el verano.
