1 Visa Information China Visa, Entry and Stay Entry without Visa Entry with Visa on Arrival Entry with Visa - (Application in advance) Travel to Hong Kong Latest Date of Entry / Validity Duration of Stay Swiss Citizens do not need a visa for a transit stay of up to 72 hours if the following conditions are met: - Arrival and departure by air via the airports of Beijing, Changsha, Chengdu, Chongqing, Dalian, Guangzhou, Guilin, Harbin, Kunming, Qingdao, Shenyang, Tianjin, Wuhan, Xiamen, Xian. - The same airport must be used for entry as well as for departure. You are not allowed to leave the above mentioned cities. - Arrival must be by direct flight (without transit in China or Hong Kong). - A confirmed ticket for a direct onward flight (without transit in China or Hong Kong) within 72 hours to a «third country» will have to get presented upon arrival. Return flights to the country of origin or flights to Hong Kong are not accepted. Swiss Citizens do not need a visa for a transit stay of up to 144 hours in Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang province if the following conditions are met: - Entry and departure by air via Shanghai Pudong, Shanghai Hongqiao, Nanjing, Lukou (Jiangsu province), Hangzhou Xiaoshan (Zhejiang province) airports. - Entry and departure by sea via Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal and Shanghai Wu Songkou International Cruise Terminal. - The same airport/port must be used for entry as well as for departure.. It is not permitted to travel to other parts of China outside of Shanghai or the Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. - Arrival must be by direct flight/travel (without transit in China or Hong Kong). - A confirmed ticket for a direct onward flight/travel (without transit in China or Hong Kong) within 144 hours to a «third country» will have to get presented upon arrival. Return flights to the country of origin or flights to Hong Kong are not accepted. Important: The conditions for a transit stay are complex, subject to change. In case of doubts, Globetrotter recommends to obtain the visa in advance and does not take any responsibility should the transit stay not be getting granted. Not possible A visa is required except for a transit stay of a maximum of 72 or 144 hours respectively (conditions see above). The visa must get obtained in advance at the Embassy/Consulate of China in Bern/Zürich. Caution: if you travel from China to Hong Kong, this counts as an exit from China. If you wish to re-enter China you will need a double entry Visa! Entry must be (according to the type of visa) not later than 3 months resp. 6 months after the visa has been issued. Important: see Enter before on you visa! The duration of the stay will be determined by the entry and departure dates on the travel confirmation! Single Entry Visa = max. 90 days / Double Entry Visa = max. 2x 60 days / Multiple Entry Visa = on request Visa Application in Advance at the Embassy/Consulate You can either obtain the visa yourself or through the Visa Service of Globetrotter against a fee. Multiple Entry Visa are only issued exceptionally and only under the condition that there are more than 2 entries into China visible on the travel confirmation (e.g. cruises). As a rule of thumb the following applies (subject to change): For a stay of up to 5 days a minimum of 2 nights must be booked, for 6 to 10 days a minimum of 3 nights, for 11 to 30 days a minimum of 7 days. For 31 to 60 days at least half the nights must be booked, for a stay of more than 60 days a minimum of two thirds of the nights must be booked. Officially, a departure ticket is required The visa invitation letter is only needed for business visa. The letter needs to be stamped and signed by the company. If the current passport was issued after , the original expired passport as well as a copy of the passport information is needed. If the expired passport is lost, a Personal Statement written in English stating the reason has to be addressed to the Embassy / Consulate (form - see below). Applicants who have been in Turkey before (stamp in the current or expired passport) need a letter written in English and addressed to the Embassy / Consulate with precise information about previous stays in Turkey (Route travelled incl. a detailed list of all the accommodation / hotels). The letter must be signed by the applicant. Copy of the page(s) in the current or expired passport with a stamp from Turkey. Original of the foreign passport as well as a copy of the pages with the passport details. If the foreign passport cannot be presented, a Personal Statement written in English stating the reason has to be addressed to the Embassy / Consulate (form - see below). Fees have to be paid directly at the embassy/consulate.
