2016 年 1 月 January 2016 聯 合 第 八 位 羅 德 學 人 戴 漪 晨 同 學 本 院 學 生 戴 漪 晨 ( 分 子 生 物 技 術 學 / 四 ) 榮 獲 羅 德 獎 學 金 赴 英 國 牛 津 大 學 深 造 連 同 戴 校 友 在 內, 香 港 中 文 大 學 至 今 已 有 十 四 位 畢 業 生 獲 此 殊 榮, 其 中 八 位 更 是 聯 合 書 院 的 畢 業 生, 他 們 於 投 身 社 會 後 在 法 律 銀 行 金 融 及 社 會 科 學 等 各 行 各 業 擔 任 要 職 戴 漪 晨 為 分 子 生 物 技 術 學 畢 業 班 同 學 除 了 取 得 優 異 的 學 業 成 績 外, 亦 非 常 活 躍 於 義 務 及 社 會 服 務 戴 同 學 更 於 2014 年 暑 假 期 間 到 悉 尼 大 學 進 行 體 驗 及 學 習, 接 觸 外 地 文 化 (P. 3) The 8 th Rhodes Scholar of UC Miss Dai Yichen Serena College student, Miss Dai Yichen (MBTE/4), was awarded the Rhodes Scholarship 2016 to study at the University of Oxford. Including Miss Serena Dai, there are altogether fourteen CUHK graduates being granted this honour, of whom, eight are United College alumni. All of the Rhodes Scholars from CUHK have subsequently excelled in a variety of industries ranging from law, banking and finance, to social sciences. Miss Dai is a final year student of Molecular Biotechnology Programme. Apart from achieving academic excellence, Miss Dai was also very active in voluntary and community services during her undergraduate studies. Miss Dai also participated in a summer program at the University of Sydney in 2014, where she had the chance to experience and interact with people from diverse cultures. The Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest and one of the most prestigious international fellowships. Many scholars have become world leaders in different fields, such as Bill Clinton, former President of the United States; Bob Hawke, former Prime Minister of Australia; and Professor A Michael Spence, Winner of Nobel Prize in Economics in 2001. Miss Dai is a final year student of Molecular Biotechnology Programme. The Forum gathered more than 150 US and local scholars, guests and students on the day. Professor Jimmy C M Yu, Head of United College, delivered an opening address. Guest moderators and speakers included Professor Junsen Zhang, Chairman, Department of Economics, CUHK, Professor Francis Lui, Director, Center for Economic Development, HKUST, Mr Peter Young, CEO, Chemcentral Group, Professor Michele Boldrin, Joseph Gibson Hoyt Distinguished Professor of Economics in Arts & Sciences, Department of Economics, Washington University in St. Louis, USA, Professor Michael Song, Department of Economics, CUHK, Professor Yun Wing Sung, Co-Director, Economic Research Centre, Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies, CUHK. Professor Ping Wang, Seigle Family Distinguished Professor, Washington University in St. Louis, USA delivered a closing speech for the Forum. Accompanied by Professor To Cho-yee, Senior College Tutor, Professor Au Ho-nien visited the College and gave a demonstration with a sharing on the traditional calligraphy technique to guests and students during the activity. A calligraphy and a painting were presented to the college as a gift in celebrating the College s 60 th anniversary. 4
第 二 十 屆 國 際 粵 方 言 研 討 會 The 20 th International Conference on Yue Dialects 第 二 十 屆 國 際 粵 方 言 研 討 會 於 2015 年 12 月 11 至 12 日 假 香 港 中 文 大 學 召 開, 聯 合 書 院 為 贊 助 單 位 之 一, 本 院 院 長 余 濟 美 教 授 應 邀 出 席 開 幕 禮 本 屆 研 討 會 的 主 題 是 比 較 語 法, 海 內 外 從 事 粵 語 研 究 的 專 家 學 者 及 學 生 聚 首 一 堂, 切 磋 跟 粵 語 語 言 學 相 關 的 問 題 The 20 th International Conference on Yue Dialects was held at The Chinese University of Hong Kong on 11 to 12 December 2015, with United College as one of the sponsors. Professor Jimmy C M Yu, College Head, was invited to attend the opening ceremony of the conference. Dream Big, Think Far 羅 德 學 人 戴 漪 晨 校 園 記 者 / 霍 珮 雲 ( 新 傳 / 三 ) 在 本 港 各 大 專 院 校 的 芸 芸 精 英 中 脫 穎 而 出, 獲 得 2016 年 度 港 區 羅 德 獎 學 金 的 戴 漪 晨 同 學 ( 分 子 生 物 技 術 學 / 四 ), 將 於 明 年 赴 笈 英 國 牛 津 大 學 深 造, 研 究 胰 腺 發 育 與 糖 尿 病 之 間 的 關 係, 希 望 透 過 從 事 基 因 和 遺 傳 領 域 的 研 究 工 作 為 人 類 作 出 貢 獻 大 學 四 年 間, 戴 同 學 不 斷 從 身 邊 的 人 和 事 中 學 習, 認 清 自 己 的 目 標, 勇 於 追 求 心 中 所 想, 終 成 功 圓 夢 成 為 羅 德 學 人, 前 往 世 界 一 流 學 府 繼 續 她 的 科 研 路 院 長 贈 言 鼓 勵 追 求 夢 想 在 安 徽 出 生 的 戴 同 學, 由 於 父 親 是 科 研 人 員, 從 小 便 有 機 會 接 觸 實 驗 室 工 作, 卻 沒 有 因 此 立 下 追 隨 父 親 走 上 科 研 道 路 的 決 心, 反 而 有 著 各 種 各 樣 的 夢 想, 像 是 成 為 動 物 園 管 理 員 或 是 法 醫 戴 同 學 小 學 二 年 級 時 被 送 到 美 國 唸 書, 三 年 後 回 到 北 京 中 四 的 時 候, 她 參 與 了 學 校 的 生 物 興 趣 小 組, 與 中 國 科 學 院 的 研 究 生 進 行 一 些 小 實 驗, 而 她 亦 在 此 時 發 現 自 己 對 在 實 驗 室 中 工 作 有 著 濃 厚 的 興 趣, 像 是 培 養 細 菌, 都 是 一 些 基 本 技 巧 當 時 真 的 很 興 奮, 因 為 是 第 一 次 做, 而 且 感 到 自 己 做 的 事 情 是 有 貢 獻 的, 可 以 實 在 地 應 用 自 己 的 知 識 中 學 畢 業 後, 為 了 追 求 心 中 的 科 研 夢, 戴 同 學 隻 身 來 到 香 港 求 學 作 為 新 生, 戴 同 學 心 中 不 免 有 著 絲 絲 迷 惘, 雖 然 知 道 將 來 希 望 朝 研 究 的 方 向 發 展, 但 如 何 實 行 卻 未 有 太 清 晰 的 想 法 幸 得 聯 合 書 院 院 長 余 濟 美 教 授 解 惑, 除 了 提 供 相 關 獎 學 金 的 資 訊, 建 議 她 參 加 羅 德 獎 學 金 的 簡 介 會 外, 更 鼓 勵 她 在 香 港 這 個 陌 生 的 環 境 中, 積 極 參 與 校 園 內 外 的 義 工 活 動, 毋 須 一 心 只 追 著 獎 學 金 跑 這 正 正 令 她 訓 練 出 羅 德 學 人 必 須 的 品 格, 包 括 熱 心 社 會 和 領 導 才 能 余 教 授 的 贈 言 Dream big, think far 更 令 戴 同 學 決 心 追 求 到 牛 津 大 學 深 造 的 夢 想, 畢 竟 這 裡 的 學 習 環 境 和 北 京 不 一 樣, 成 績 也 不 一 定 會 很 好 我 有 想 過 到 牛 津 或 劍 橋 等 世 界 著 名 的 學 府 繼 續 學 業 這 想 法 會 否 太 不 切 實 際, 他 也 鼓 勵 我 不 要 這 樣 想 成 為 羅 德 學 人 的 夢 想 早 在 大 學 一 年 級 時, 於 戴 同 學 心 中 萌 芽, 如 今 終 於 得 償 所 願, 難 怪 她 感 到 興 奮 不 已 熱 心 義 工 服 務 獲 益 良 多 在 學 業 以 外, 戴 同 學 也 花 上 不 少 時 間 參 與 義 工 服 務 她 在 突 破 青 年 村 舉 行 的 義 工 活 動 中, 與 來 自 非 洲 的 政 治 避 難 者 組 成 支 援 小 組, 令 這 些 二 十 多 歲 的 青 年 在 等 待 難 民 身 份, 不 會 白 白 浪 費 時 間 他 們 不 可 以 上 學, 做 義 工 也 不 行, 我 們 便 一 起 想 可 以 實 行 的 活 動 他 們 都 是 有 夢 想 的 人, 在 這 種 情 況 下 他 們 都 沒 有 放 棄, 仍 然 會 在 種 種 限 制 下 想 辦 法 實 現 夢 想 這 對 我 而 言 是 一 個 很 有 啟 發 性 的 經 驗 在 中 大 校 園 中, 戴 同 學 也 不 乏 有 趣 的 義 工 經 驗 在 一 次 學 生 事 務 處 主 辦 的 義 工 服 務 中, 規 定 服 務 隊 伍 必 須 包 含 本 地 生 內 地 生 國 際 生 各 一, 並 合 作 自 行 籌 組 一 次 義 工 服 務 除 了 考 驗 戴 同 學 與 不 同 背 景 的 人 合 作 的 能 力 外, 還 要 解 決 組 織 上 的 問 題, 需 要 找 出 令 不 諳 廣 東 話 的 韓 藉 同 學 也 能 參 與 活 動 的 方 法 最 終 聯 絡 上 一 所 在 錦 田 的 小 學, 裡 面 有 數 名 能 以 英 話 溝 通 的 穆 斯 林 學 生, 順 利 解 決 了 這 問 題 成 功 獲 獎 成 績 非 主 因 戴 同 學 的 學 業 成 績 固 然 十 分 優 秀, 但 她 認 為 這 只 是 成 為 羅 德 學 人 的 因 素, 並 非 決 定 的 關 鍵 我 想 最 主 要 是 校 園 外 的 經 驗 比 起 實 際 知 識, 評 委 更 著 重 概 念, 而 這 些 在 課 堂 上 是 學 不 到 的 戴 同 學 認 為 關 心 社 會 亦 是 她 成 功 獲 獎 的 要 素 小 時 候 在 美 國 唸 書 時, 校 方 鼓 勵 學 生 關 心 學 校 以 外 的 事, 她 因 而 養 成 了 每 天 讀 報 和 討 論 新 聞 時 事 的 習 慣, 令 她 更 了 解 這 個 世 界 至 於 考 取 優 秀 成 績 的 秘 訣, 戴 同 學 認 為 先 要 對 自 己 的 主 修 科 感 興 趣, 這 樣 便 不 用 強 逼 自 己 温 習 以 生 物 科 為 例, 需 要 背 誦 的 內 容 較 多, 如 果 不 牢 記 概 念 便 不 可 以 進 行 實 驗 實 際 的 書 本 知 識 是 必 須 的, 不 然 你 無 法 發 揮 創 意 在 余 教 授 的 介 紹 下, 戴 同 學 在 最 後 一 場 面 試 前 一 天 與 另 一 位 聯 合 書 院 的 羅 德 學 人 鄭 華 哲 ( 醫 科 /09) 聯 絡, 平 復 緊 張 情 緒 他 告 訴 我 每 一 個 進 入 最 後 遴 選 階 段 的 候 選 人 都 有 成 為 羅 德 學 人 的 資 格, 而 且 不 用 太 在 意 評 委 當 下 的 反 應, 做 回 原 本 的 自 己, 表 達 自 己 的 想 法 就 可 以 戴 同 學 對 有 意 申 請 羅 德 獎 學 金 的 師 弟 妹 亦 有 一 些 建 議, 除 了 清 楚 了 解 遴 選 要 求 和 申 請 方 法 外, 更 重 要 的 是 及 早 考 慮 自 身 未 來, 並 對 自 己 的 主 修 科 有 一 定 程 度 的 了 解 16
