Cambridge International Examinations IGCSE and Cambridge Secondary 1 Checkpoint 2016 Results We are very proud with the results of our first cohort of our 119 Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) students in the recent November 2016 and May 2016 examinations and of our 189 Cambridge Secondary 1 Checkpoint students. With our November 2016 IGCSE Exams, we have an outstanding record of 82.38% (A*&A). 41% of our students achieved Straight (A* & A), of which 9% of them actually achieved Straight Excellent (A*). 83% of our students scored between nine to five and more than half, 58%, of them scored between nine to six. Our Science Department produced great results with 96% of our students scoring in Chemistry, 92% in Physics and 88% in Biology. We also had 62% of them scoring Distinction in Combined Science. Our ICT Department also produced good results with 90% of them scoring. Following that are the subjects Mathematics 88%, Economics 86%, Accounting 81%, and Additional Mathematics 79%. The total for First Language English is 66% whilst 24% scored Bs. Thus the majority did well with a Distinction or B. History brought in 50%. This cohort also did us proud in the May 2016 IGCSE Exams. A stellar 100% of 118 students who registered for Malay as a Foreign Language, scored A*. We also had some students taking optional subjects of First Language Chinese
where 80% scored and of Second Language Chinese with 92% distinctions. Our students scored perfect marks in Mathematics and Additional Mathematics with four different students, two students in each subject achieving a perfect score of 100%. Our students other top scores are 99% in Foreign Language Malay; 98% in Chemistry and Economics; 97% in Biology, Physics and Chinese as Second Language; 96% in Accounting; 95% in First Language English; 94% in Combined Science and First Language Chinese; 93% in ICT; and 92% in History. Our first cohort of 189 CIE CS1 Checkpoint students also performed exceedingly well in October 2016 with many of them attaining a perfect score of 6.0-95% of them received a perfect score for Maths, 55% in Science and 17% in English. 14% of our students succeeded in acquiring a perfect score in all three subjects. We are also proud of those who have worked hard and achieved the highest band of Excellent (6.0-5.0) a stellar 100% in Math, 95% in Science, and 51% in English. Wonderfully, we have 50% of our students in the Excellent band for all three subjects. Considering that this is our first cohort of Cambridge International Examination students, the school is indeed very proud of them! We are thankful to God Almighty who has provided us with the right direction in this switch to become an international school, for the parents' support in journeying with us in this period of transition and the ability to prepare the students well to take the respective examinations. The training which the teachers went through were certainly invaluable, and the teachers also took on the right attitude to teach the students well. Thus, everyone played an important role in ensuring this success.
Let me congratulate all the students for the hard work that they had put in to produce these wonderful results. When we look at the League Table for the UK May/June GCSE results, where only the top 100 schools are featured on the table, Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur (International) can indeed proudly say that we are comparable to the top 60 schools there (they do have a few thousand schools in the UK). Hence, I would not be surprised if we are among the top 10% of the International Schools in Malaysia. I do believe with God's grace and blessings, we will continue to strive to go Above and Beyond in all that we do in the school whilst steadfast in upholding our vision of "Education with Mission, Excellence and Compassion". Regards, Mdm.Chia Loy Tian School Principal

On the 11th of January, the Eco-School Committee held its first Eco Assembly for the year 2017 to announce the Eco-School Committee s theme for this year, "The Green Revolution". During the assembly, the president of the committee, Gerald Ser Tze Zhen also announced the lineup of projects and events for the year 2017. We were honoured to have Cik Nadia Abdullah Hasbi from WWF Malaysia to tell us about the benefits and uses of palm oil on this special occasion. After that, the Eco- School Committee for the year 2017 was recognised and installed by the school principal, Madam Chia Loy Tian.
Dedication Service The school s annual Dedication Service was held on the 12th of January. We were ushered into a praise and worship time by a group of Christian teachers. Rev. Lee Huck Tee, Chairman of the School Christian Support Committee of the school, led us all to dedicate the school to God. We had the great privilege of having Mr. Michael Williams, the Executive Youth Director of the Methodist Church of Malaysia, on this memorable day. He encouraged us with his message entitled Excelling for Others reminding us that a life lived for God and not just ourselves, is the truly well lived life.
MADAM CHIA S BIRTHDAY On the 17th of January, a birthday celebration was held for our school s beloved Principal, Madam Chia Loy Tian. Our Deputy Principal, Madam Pearl, gave a heartwarming speech about Madam Chia before the School Chaplain, Mr Oliver Wong, said a short prayer to bless her. After a birthday cake was brought out and a birthday song sang, various representatives went on stage to present their gifts and say a few words. Lastly, Madam Chia herself gave a short speech that was inspiring and motivating as she spoke about her experiences and challenges she faced as a teacher.
Eco Healthy Eating Day
On the 20th of January, a group of students attended an in-house leadership camp. The camp was organised by the Librarians, Monitors and Prefects. The participants first took part in an activity which required them to find their facilitators. After that, the participants were given time to settle down and move into their dorms before heading for dinner. After a hearty meal, the participants took part in the next activity Mystery Night. This event aimed to inculcate various leadership qualities and the most important one being to never give up when facing troubles. The next morning, the participants started off with exercises which was soon followed by station games and a game of Capture the Flag. Soon, the camp came to an end and everyone bid their goodbyes with memorable friendships and leadership skills experienced.
