12 Abstract 3 The Strategic Choice of Byzantine Empire in the Byzantine-Persian War on Justinian Epoch Ma Feng Abstract The Byzantine-Persian war has profound reasons of history and the era on Justinian epoch. There are the greatest outside threat of the Byzantine Empire. The Byzantine-Persian war highlights the conflicts between the two major strategic objectives of peace and unity of the Byzantine Empire to change the military belief of the Byzantine army early formation providing the background for the development of the defense-in-depth strategy of the Byzantine Empire. The defense-in-depth strategy is a new military strategy in the late Rome Empire. In the military conflict between the Byzantine Empire and the Sasanian Persia Empire the defense-in-depth strategy became the necessary choice for the Byzantine Empire to stabilize the eastern defense line. The needs of the defense-in-depth strategy to reflect the conditions of forces of war between the two sides is conducive to the Persian. The formation and development of the defense-in-depth strategy is to adapt to the requirements of the inside and the outside environment change in the late Rome Empire and the early period of Byzantine Empire. It also became the basic military strategy of the later Byzantine Empire which played an important role in the maintenance of the military strength of the Byzantine Empire.
