Lesson 35 DAILY READINGS: Monday: Ezekiel 34:11-31 Tuesday: John 10:1-18 Wednesday: Matthew 9:36-10:8 Thursday: Matthew 18:1-14 Friday: Luke 15:1-10 Saturday: Matthew 26:31-56 Sunday: Zechariah 13:1-9 THE SHEPHERD AND THE SHEEP John 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. INTRODUCTION: Isaiah declares that "all we like sheep have gone astray" (Isaiah 53:6). First in the Garden of Eden man went astray from God and His purposes. So far did man stray from God that He regretted having created man (see Genesis 6:6). Later when God chose to reveal Himself to the world through the nation of Israel, they, too, went astray. They broke the covenant God had made with them and disobeyed His commandments. So rebellious were they that judgment scattered them as captives in a foreign land. Ezekiel upbraided the leaders of Israel for using the flock instead of serving it (Ezekiel 34:1-10). ISAIAH DECLARES THAT ALL WE LIKE SHEEP HAVE GONE ASTRAY Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. SO FAR DID MAN STRAY FROM GOD THAT HE REGRETTED HAVING CREATED MAN Genesis 6:6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. EZEKIEL UPBRAIDED THE LEADERS OF ISRAEL FOR USING THE FLOCK INSTEAD OF SERVING IT Ezekiel 34: And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 耶和華的話臨到我說 : 2 Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto the shepherds; Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the flocks? 3 Ye eat the fat, and ye clothe you with the wool, ye kill them that are fed: but ye feed not the flock. 4 The diseased have ye not strengthened, neither have ye healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them. 1

5 And they were scattered, because there is no shepherd: and they became meat to all the beasts of the field, when they were scattered. 6 My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and upon every high hill: yea, my flock was scattered upon all the face of the earth, and none did search or seek after them. 7 Therefore, ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD; 8 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely because my flock became a prey, and my flock became meat to every beast of the field, because there was no shepherd, neither did my shepherds search for my flock, but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my flock; 9 Therefore, O ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD; 10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against the shepherds; and I will require my flock at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the flock; neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more; for I will deliver my flock from their mouth, that they may not be meat for them. LESSON NOTES: The Lord Is My Shepherd: Ezekiel prophesied that God would raise up "one shepherd...my servant David" (ch. 34:23), to gather and shepherd His people. Jesus, a direct descendant of David, is that one. He declared that all who came before Him were thieves and robbers (John 10:8). "I am the good shepherd," Jesus plainly stated (John 10:11). Further, Jesus said that there were "other sheep... not of this fold;" that is, not Jews. They, too, would be gathered, and "there shall be one fold and one shepherd" (John 10:16). EZEKIEL PROPHESIED THAT GOD WOULD RAISE UP ONE SHEPHERD MY SERVANT DAVID Ezekiel 34:23 And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. ALL WHO CAME BEFORE JESUS WERE THIEVES AND ROBBERS John 10:8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.

JESUS IS THE GOOD SHEPHERD John 10:11 THERE SHALL BE ONE FOLD AND ONE SHEPHERD John 10:16 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. Ezekiel prophesied that God would seek out and gather the lost and scattered sheep (ch. 34:11-13, 16). Jesus told His disciples that He, the Son of man, "is come to seek and to save that which is lost" (Luke 19:10). Twice, the story of the lost sheep is recorded in the Gospels (Luke 15:3-7 and Matthew 18:12-14). The ninety and nine are left while the good shepherd seeks the lost one. Then there is great joy when the lost one is brought safely back to the fold. EZEKIEL PROPHESIED THAT GOD WOULD SEEK OUT AND GATHER THE LOST AND SCATTERED SHEEP Ezekiel 34:11-13, For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out. 12 As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered; so will I seek out my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day. 13 And I will bring them out from the people, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land, and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in all the inhabited places of the country. 16 I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment. THE SON OF MAN IS COME TO SEEK AND TO SAVE THAT WHICH IS LOST Luke 19:10 Matthew 18:11 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. which was lost. THE STORY OF THE LOST SHEEP Matthew 18:12-14 Luke 15: How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, 3 And he spake this parable unto them, saying, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave 耶穌就用比喻說 : the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, 4 and seeketh that which is gone astray? What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he

13 And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray. 14 Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish. 你們在天上的父也是這樣, 不願意這小子裡失喪一個 lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? 5 And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. 7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. Ezekiel also prophesied that the "one shepherd" would feed His sheep (Ezekiel 34:14,15,23). Jesus fed His followers both natural and spiritual food. He miraculously multiplied the bread and fish so that 5,000 men besides women and children ate and were filled (John 6:10-13). He also fed them with the "true bread which cometh down from heaven" (John 6:32). Hunger and thirst would be satisfied for those who came to Jesus (vs. 35). EZEKIEL PROPHESIED THAT THE ONE SHEPHERD WOULD FEED HIS SHEEP Ezekiel 34:14,15,23 14 I will feed them in a good pasture, and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie in a good fold, and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel. 15 I will feed my flock, and I will cause them to lie down, saith the Lord GOD. 23 And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd.

JESUS FEEDS THE 5000 John 6: And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. 11 And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. 12 When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. 13 Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten. JESUS ALSO FED THEM WITH THE TRUE BREAD WHICH COMETH DOWN FROM HEAVEN John 6:32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. HUNGER AND THIRST WOULD BE SATISFIED FOR THOSE WHO CAME TO JESUS John 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. Finally, Ezekiel also promised that the Shepherd would offer protection to the sheep (Ezekiel 34:22,25, 27,28). The fulfillment of this prophecy is to be found in the Good Shepherd giving His life for the sheep. Jesus did not desert His sheep in the time of danger, but met the enemy and sacrificed His life that His sheep might have eternal life. Zechariah foretold that the shepherd would be smitten and the sheep scattered (see Zechariah 13:7). This took place when Jesus was arrested and the disciples forsook Him (see Matthew 26:31, 56). But after the Resurrection and Ascension the one fold was gathered to be ministered to by the one shepherd. EZEKIEL ALSO PROMISED THAT THE SHEPHERD WOULD OFFER PROTECTION TO THE SHEEP Ezekiel 34:22,25 27,28 22 Therefore will I save my flock, and they shall no more be a prey; and I will judge between cattle and cattle. 25 And I will make with them a covenant of peace, and will cause the evil beasts to cease out of the land: and they shall dwell safely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods. 27 And the tree of the field shall yield her fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase, and they 5

shall be safe in their land, and shall know that I am the LORD, when I have broken the bands of their yoke, and delivered them out of the hand of those that served themselves of them. 28 And they shall no more be a prey to the heathen, neither shall the beast of the land devour them; but they shall dwell safely, and none shall make them afraid. ZECHARIAH FORETOLD THAT THE SHEPHERD WOULD BE SMITTEN AND THE SHEEP SCATTERED Zechariah 13:7 Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones. WHEN JESUS WAS ARRESTED, HIS DISCIPLES FORSOOK HIM Matthew 26:31, Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written (Zechariah 13:7), I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. 56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled. The Sheep of His Pasture: When Jesus sent His disciples out two by two into all the cities of Israel, he forbad them to go to the Gentiles or Samaritans. He began His ministry by gathering "the lost sheep of the house of Israel" (Matthew 10:5, 6). His sheep heard His voice and followed Him. But Jesus also said that He had "other sheep...not of this fold" (Israel) which must become a part of the one fold. The Samaritan woman and her friends (see John 4:41-42) preceded a host of converts under the ministry of Philip the evangelist (see Acts 8:5-6). The Syrophenician woman and later Cornelius head the list of the millions of Gentiles who, with the Samaritans, make up the "other sheep." JESUS BEGAN HIS MINISTRY BY GATHERING THE LOST SHEEP OF THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL Matthew 10:5,6 5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: 耶穌差這十二個人去, 吩咐他們說 : 外邦人的路, 你們不要走 ; 撒瑪利亞人的城, 你們不要進 ; 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

THE SAMARITAN WOMAN John 41 And many more believed because of his own word; 4:41-42 因耶穌的話, 信的人就更多了, 42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world. PHILIP THE EVANGELIST Acts 8:5-6 5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. 6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. The Pharisees despised the publicans and sinners and berated 責駡 Jesus for His contact with them. Jesus considered them lost sheep that could be brought back into the fold. Publicans and harlots were carried back to the fold on the Good Shepherd's shoulders, while scribes and Pharisees remained without. Zacchaeus and Magdalene, among others, were brought into the fold by the Son of man who came "to seek and to save that which is lost" (Luke 19:10). THE LESSONS: If we will stay close to our Shepherd, all our needs will be provided. It is when we stray that temptation overcomes us and dangers surround us. If we will keep very close to Jesus, many dangers and falls will be averted 避開. Don't forget the other sheep. The Lord is still seeking out the lost, and we must be His witnesses in this work. There is great joy in bringing a lost sheep into the fold. All heaven is pictured rejoicing with the successful shepherd and his friends and neighbors as the lost sheep is returned to the fold. We can experience this unspeakable joy by seeking out the lost sheep and bringing them to Jesus. Ezekiel prophesied that God would raise up "one shepherd...my servant David", to gather and shepherd His people. Jesus, a direct descendant of David, is that one. God would seek out and gather the lost and scattered sheep The "one shepherd" would feed His sheep The Shepherd would offer protection to the sheep 7

Monday: Ezekiel 34: For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out. 14 I will feed them in a good pasture, and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie in a good fold, and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel. 15 I will feed my flock, and I will cause them to lie down, saith the Lord GOD. 16 I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment. 17 And as for you, O my flock, thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I judge between cattle and cattle, between the rams and the he goats. 18 Seemeth it a small thing unto you to have eaten up the good pasture, but ye must tread down with your feet the residue of your pastures? and to have drunk of the deep waters, but ye must foul the residue with your feet? 19 And as for my flock, they eat that which ye have trodden with your feet; and they drink that which ye have fouled with your feet. 20 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD unto them; Behold, I, even I, will judge between the fat cattle and between the lean cattle.

21 Because ye have thrust with side and with shoulder, and pushed all the diseased with your horns, till ye have scattered them abroad; 22 Therefore will I save my flock, and they shall no more be a prey; and I will judge between cattle and cattle. 23 And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. 24 And I the LORD will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them; I the LORD have spoken it. 25 And I will make with them a covenant of peace, and will cause the evil beasts to cease out of the land: and they shall dwell safely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods. 26 And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing. 27 And the tree of the field shall yield her fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase, and they shall be safe in their land, and shall know that I am the LORD, when I have broken the bands of their yoke, and delivered them out of the hand of those that served themselves of them. 28 And they shall no more be a prey to the heathen, neither shall the beast of the land devour them; but they shall dwell safely, and none shall make them afraid. 29 And I will raise up for them a plant of renown, and they shall be no more consumed with hunger in the land, neither bear the shame of the heathen any more. 30 Thus shall they know that I the LORD their God am with them, and that they, even the house of Israel, are my people, saith the Lord GOD. 31 And ye my flock, the flock of my pasture, are men, and I am your God, saith the Lord GOD.

Tuesday: John 10: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. 2 But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. 4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. 5 And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. 6 This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them. 7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. 9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. 10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. 11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. 12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. 13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.

14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. 15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. 17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

Wednesday: Matthew 9:36-10:8 9:36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; 38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest. 10:1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. 2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; 3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. 5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: 耶穌差這十二個人去, 吩咐他們說 : 外邦人的路, 你們不要走 ; 撒瑪利亞人的城, 你們不要進 ; 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

Thursday: Matthew 18: At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? 2 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, 3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. 6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. 7 Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh! Matthew 18:8-9 Matthew 5: Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. 9 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire. 29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. 30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 18:11 Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to save that For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. which was lost. 12 How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? 13 And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray. 14 Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.

Friday: Luke 15: Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him. 2 And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them. 3 And he spake this parable unto them, saying, 耶穌就用比喻說 : 4 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? 5 And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. 7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. 8 Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? 9 And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. 10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

Saturday: Matthew 26: Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written (Zechariah 13:7), I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. 32 But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. 33 Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended. 34 Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. 35 Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples. 36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. 37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. 38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. 39 And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. 40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. 42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. 43 And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.

44 And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. 45 Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me. 47 And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people. 48 Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast. 49 And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him. 50 And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore (for what reason or purpose) art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus and took him. 51 And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear. 52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. 53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus (in this way) it must be? 55 In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. 56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

Sunday: Zechariah 13:1-9 1 In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness. 2 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no more be remembered: and also I will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land. 3 And it shall come to pass, that when any shall yet prophesy, then his father and his mother that begat him shall say unto him, Thou shalt not live; for thou speakest lies in the name of the LORD: and his father and his mother that begat him shall thrust him through when he prophesieth. 4 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the prophets shall be ashamed every one of his vision, when he hath prophesied; neither shall they wear a rough garment to deceive: 5 But he shall say, I am no prophet, I am an husbandman; for man taught me to keep cattle from my youth. 6 And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends. 7 Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones. 8 And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. 9 And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.
