Use AA, R6, UM-3 batteries. Make sure that the polarities are correct. See the illustration inside the batter compartment. Handling the remote control The area between the remote control and this unit must be clear of large obstacles. Do not spill water or other liquids on the remote control. In this manual, audio CDs are referred to as Audio CD, MP3/WMA discs as Data Disc, and MP3/ WMA files stored on the USB device as USB. The Audio CD, Data Disc and USB icons indicate music data formats that can be used in the operation. This manual is printed prior to production. 4 INTRODUCTION CONTROLS AND FUNCTIONS Front panel 1 (Power) Press to turn the power on/off. The power indicator above lights up when this unit is turned on. Plaback starts automaticall if the power is turned on while a disc is set in the disc tra. 2 Power indicator Lights up as follows: ON: Bright OFF: Off 3 ipod/usb port Connect our ipod or USB device. See page 6 for details. 4 ipod/usb indicator Off: CD mode is selected. Orange: Connection read. Green: ipod/usb is connected and plaable files have been detected (plaback read). 5 CD/USB Swithes between CD mode and ipod/usb mode (see page 6). When the ipod/usb indicator is not lit, this unit is in the CD mode. 6 PURE DIRECT Turns on or off the PURE DIRECT mode to improve audio qualit. The PURE DIRECT indicator lights up. The digital output is turned off. The front panel displa is turned off during plaback and onl the minimum required indicators and messages are displaed during in the operation. Note Connect using the ANALOG OUT terminals when ou use PURE DIRECT mode (refer to page 3). 7 Disc tra Loads a disc. 8 (Open/Close) Opens or closes the disc tra. 9 Remote control sensor Receives signals from the remote control. 0 / (Skip/Search backward), / (Skip/Search forward) / : Skips to the next track. / : Skips back to the beginning of the current track. / (twice): Skips to the previous track. 6 CONTROLS AND FUNCTIONS Remote control Installing batteries in the remote control 1 Press the part and slide the batter compartment cover off. 2 Insert the two supplied batteries (AA, R6, UM-3) according to the polarit markings (+ and ) on the inside of the batter compartment. 3 Slide the cover back until it snaps into place. Using the remote control The remote control transmits a directional infrared beam. Be sure to aim the remote control directl at the remote control sensor on the front panel of this unit during operation. Within 6 m (20 ft) 1 Infrared signal transmitter Sends infrared signals to this unit. 2 CD/USB Switches between CD mode and ipod/usb mode (see page 6). This setting is retained even if ou turn off this unit. 3 PROGRAM Turns on or off the program plaback mode. See Program plaback on the next page. 4 DIMMER Each time ou press DIMMER, the brightness level changes b 4 levels. This setting is retained even if ou turn off this unit. 5 Numeric buttons Use to select directl a track on the disc or a file in the current folder. 6 (Search backward), (Search forward) Searches tracks backward/forward while the ke is pressed. 7 (Skip backward), (Skip forward) : Skips to the next track. : Skips back to the beginning of the current track. Refer to page 6 for details. 9 OPEN/CLOSE Opens or closes the disc tra. 0 PURE DIRECT Turns on or off the PURE DIRECT mode to improve audio qualit. See page 2 for details. This setting is retained even if ou turn off this unit. A RANDOM Turns on or off the random sequence plaback mode. Note The random plaback mode is canceled when the disc is ejected. B REPEAT Repeats plaback of a single track or all tracks. Each time ou press REPEAT during plaback, the repeat plaback mode changes as follows: REP TRACK (single repeat plaback): A single track is plaed back repeatedl. REP ALL (all repeat plaback): All tracks (the entire disc) are plaed back repeatedl. Data Disc USB REP FOLDER (folder repeat plaback): All files (the entire folder) are plaed back repeatedl. Repeat pla also works with program pla and random-sequence pla. C DISPLAY Switches the time displa. Each time ou press DISPLAY during plaback, the time displa changes as follows: Audio CD Data Disc Elapsed time of the current track (default) Remaining time of the current track Total remaining time of the disc USB Elapsed time of the current file (default) Album name Artist name Track name (CD TEXT disc onl) Album name Artist name Title D A/B Audio CD Repeats plaback of a specified section of a track. To set the starting and end points (A and B), press A/B twice during plaback. To cancel repeat A-B, press A/B again. Notes You cannot set repeat A-B from one track to another track. You cannot set repeat A-B for Data Disc and USB. If ou stop plaback b pressing (Stop), repeat A-B is canceled. You cannot use repeat A-B when this unit is in the PURE DIRECT mode. E CLEAR Erases the programmed track. F ENTER Confirms a track number entered when ou are programming tracks. G (Pause) Pauses plaback. Press or to resume plaback. H (Pla) Starts plaback. See pages 8 for more information on MP3/WMA plaback. I (Stop) Stops plaback. Program plaback In the program plaback mode, ou can pla back tracks in a programmed sequence. 1 Press PROGRAM while plaback is stopped. This unit is set to the program editing mode. 2 Select a track b using the numeric buttons and ENTER. 3 Repeat step 2 to program the next track. You can program up to 24 tracks. To cancel the programmed track, press CLEAR. 4 Press. Plaback starts from the beginning of the programmed sequence. To erase all programmed tracks, press CLEAR when the plaback is stopped. 8 OPERATION Connecting ipod/usb devices Notes ipod PLAYING BACK ipod/usb DEVICE Use the USB cable supplied with our ipod. If no USB cable is supplied, purchase one from Apple Inc. Turn off our ipod. Do not use a USB hub. 1 4 Connect our USB device or ipod via USB cable Plaing back ipod Plaing back USB devices 1 Press CD/USB to select the ipod/usb mode. The ipod/usb indicator on the front panel lights up in orange, then changes to green when plaback is read. 2 Start plaback. Operate our ipod to start plaback, select a track, pause, and stop plaback. You can also use the following buttons: p (Plaback), e (Pause), s (Stop), b (Skip backward), a (Skip forward), w (Search backward), and f (Search forward) on this unit or Remote Control. Note ipod ma not function properl with this unit if software on ipod is not updated. Be sure to use the latest version of ipod software. 1 Press CD/USB to select the ipod/usb mode. The ipod/usb indicator on the front panel lights up. 2 Start plaback. Filename is displaed in the front panel displa and plaback starts automaticall in order b date and time of creation if plaable files are in the USB device. 3 Select a track. Press FOLDER / on the remote control to select a folder, and then press b/a or numeric buttons to select a track. 4 Stop plaback. Press s (Stop). See pages 8 for more information on MP3/WMA plaback. 6 En

9 PLAYING BACK ipod/usb DEVICE Disconnecting ipod/usb devices Stop plaback, and then disconnect our ipod or USB device. It is recommended that ou press CD/USB to switch to the CD mode, confirm that the CD/USB indicator goes off, and then disconnect our ipod/usb device. CAUTION Do not disconnect our ipod or USB device while plaing back from the connected device, or while USB READING appears in the front panel displa. Supported ipod/usb devices Supported ipod models ipod classic (including 120GB model) ipod nano (2nd, 3rd and 4th generations) ipod touch (1st and 2nd generations) (as of April 2009) Notes ipod is licensed on the condition that individuals perform privatel duplication and plaback of uncoprighted material or material legall approved of duplication and plaback. Infringement of copright is prohibited b law. Yamaha and suppliers accepts no liabilit for the loss of data saved on ipod connected to this unit. As a precaution, it is recommended that the files are made backup copies. Supported USB devices This unit supports USB mass storage class devices (e.g., flash memories, card readers or portable audio plaers) that use FAT16 or FAT32 format. Notes Some devices ma not work properl even if the meet the requirements. This unit does not support encrpted USB memor devices. Do not connect devices other than USB mass storage class devices: USB chargers, USB hubs, PCs, external HDD, etc. When ou insert two or more memor cards at the same time into a card reader connected to the ipod/usb port on this unit, onl one of the memor cards is recognized. Yamaha and suppliers accepts no liabilit for the loss of data saved on the USB devices connected to this unit. As a precaution, it is recommended that the files are made backup copies. To prevent a malfunction of this unit: Do not use an nonstandard shaped disc (heart, etc.) available on the market because it might damage the unit. 11 PLAYABLE DISC AND FILE FORMAT Handling compact discs Alwas handle with care so that the plaing surface is not scratched. Do not warp discs. To keep clean the plaing surface, wipe with a clean, dr cloth. Do not use an tpe of disc cleaner, spra, or an other chemical-based liquid. Do not wipe with a circular motion; wipe straight outward from the center. Use a soft-tipped pen when writing on the label side of the disc. When a disc is not being used, remove it from this unit and store in an appropriate case. Do not expose discs to direct sunlight, high temperature or high humidit for a long time. Note: Do not use an lens cleaners as the ma be a cause of malfunction. This unit is equipped with the following two special modes, which ma be useful for special purposes at stores or offices. Note The special mode functions are incompatible with ipod. Pla mode memor Retains the current plaback mode (REPEAT and RANDOM) after turning off the power, saving the time of setting the plaback mode again each time ou turn on the power. The RESUM indicator in the front panel displa lights up when enabled. Read mode Pauses plaback after each track, allowing ou to start the next track at an desired timing. The RDY indicator in the front panel displa lights up when enabled. USING THE ADVANCED SETUP To activate and configure Advanced setup, follow the steps below. Use the buttons on the front panel. 12 TROUBLESHOOTING If the unit fails to operate normall, check the following points to determine whether the problem can be corrected b the simple measures suggested. If it cannot be corrected, or if the problem is not listed in the Problems column, disconnect the power cable and contact our authorized Yamaha dealer or service center for help. Problems Possible Causes Solutions Refer to page This unit fails to turn on. The power cable is not connected to the AC IN inlet on the rear panel or not plugged in the wall outlet. Connect the power cable firml. 3 The disc tra does not close completel. A foreign object is obstructing the tra. Carefull check the disc tra and remove the foreign object. Disc plaback does not start. The disc is damaged. Check the disc carefull; replace it if necessar. There is moisture on the laser pickup. Wait 20 to 30 minutes after turn on this unit ON before tring to pla back a disc. The disc is loaded upside down. Reload the disc with the label side up. The disc is dirt. Clean the disc. 9 The format of the MP3 or WMA file is not compatible with this unit. The CD-RW (ReWritable) disc is not recorded correctl. The disc is a non-standard disc not plaable with this unit. Replace the disc with a correctl recorded disc plaable with this unit. Replace the disc with a correctl recorded disc plaable with this unit. Switch to ipod/usb mode b pressing CD/ USB. 6 USB plaback does not start. Improper USB device connections. Connect the USB device again. 6 The format of the MP3 or WMA file is not compatible with this unit. Replace the file with a correctl recorded file plaable with this unit. 8 This unit is in disc mode. Switch to ipod/usb mode b pressing CD/ USB. 6 Plaback is delaed, or begins at the wrong place. The disc ma be scratched or damaged. Check the disc carefull; replace it if necessar. 8 No sound. Improper output cable connections. Connect the cables properl. If the problem persists, the cables ma be defective. 3 Improper amplifier operation. Set the amplifier controls to the correct input selection. Sound of a component connected to the DIGITAL OUT jacks is not plaed. PURE DIRECT is turned on. Turn PURE DIRECT off. The remote control does not work or function properl. Wrong distance or angle. The remote control functions within a maximum range of 6 m (20 ft) and no more than 30 degrees off-axis from the front panel. 4 Direct sunlight or lighting (from an inverter tpe of fluorescent lamp, etc.) is striking the remote control sensor of this unit. Reposition this unit. The batteries are weak. 23 FORMATO DE ARCHIVOS Y DISCOS REPRODUCIBLES Manipular los discos compactos Manipule siempre los discos con cuidado de no raar la superficie de reproducción. No flexione los discos. Para mantener la superficie de reproducción limpia, pásele un trapo seco limpio. No utilice ningún tipo de producto de limpieza para discos, spra o cualquier otro líquido químico. No limpie el disco con movimientos circulares, sino desde el centro hacia afuera. Utilice un marcador de punta blanda cuando escriba en el lado de la etiqueta del disco. Cuando no utilice un disco, retírelo de la unidad guárdelo en una funda adecuada. No exponga los discos a la luz directa del sol, a altas temperaturas o a humedad elevada durante mucho tiempo. Nota: No utilice limpiadores de lentes, a que pueden causar fallos en el funcionamiento. Esta unidad está equipada con los dos modos siguientes, que pueden ser útiles para fines específicos en tiendas u oficinas.
