Now Jesus stood before the governor; and the governor asked him : 這是照著主所吩咐我的 耶穌站在巡撫面前 巡撫問他說 : Pilate: Are you the King of the Jews? 65 65 Chorus: Barabbas! Evangelist: Pilate said to them: 彼拉多說 : Pilate: Then what should I do with Jesus who is called the Messiah? Evangelist: All of them said: 他們都說 : Chorus: Let him be crucified!
How miraculous indeed is this punishment! The good shepherd suffers for the sheep; The Master, righteous as he is, pays the penalty For his vassals!
Matthew 27: Evangelist: Then he asked: 巡撫說 : Pilate: Why, what evil has he done? Evangelist: But they shouted all the more: 他們便極力的喊著說 : Chorus: Let him be crucified! Evangelist: So when Pilate saw that he could do nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took some water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying: 彼拉多見說也無濟於事 反要生亂 就拿水在眾人面前洗手 說 : Pilate: I am innocent of this man s blood; see to it yourselves. Evangelist: Then the people as a whole answered: Chorus: His blood be on us and on our children!
69 Evangelist: So he released Barabbas for them; and after flogging Jesus, he handed him over to be crucified. Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the governor s headquarters, and they gathered the whole cohort around him. They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and after twisting some thorns into a crown, they put it on his head. They put a reed in his right hand and knelt before him and mocked him, saying: 於是彼拉多釋放巴拉巴給他們 ; 把耶穌鞭打了 交給人釘十字架 巡撫的兵就把耶穌帶進衙門 叫全營的兵都聚集在他那裡 他們給他脫了衣服 穿上一件朱紅色袍子 ; 用荊棘編作冠冕 戴在他頭上 ; 拿一根葦子放在他右手裡 跪在他面前戲弄他 說 : Men: Hail, King of the Jews! Evangelist: They spat on him, and took the reed and struck him on the head.
70 Chorale 11 O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden, Voll Schmerz und voller Hohn! O Haupt, zu Spott gebunden Mit einer Dornenkron! O Haupt, sonst schön gezieret Mit höchster Ehr und Zier, Jetzt aber hoch schimpfieret, Gegrüßet seist du mir! Du edles Angesichte, Dafür sonst schrickt und scheut Das große Weltgerichte, Wie bist du so bespeit; Wie bist du so erbleichet! Wer hat dein Augenlicht, Dem sonst kein Licht nicht gleichet, So schändlich zugericht't? O head of blood and wounding, Of pain and scorn so full! O Head, for spite now fettered Beneath a crown of thorns! O head, once fair and lovely, With highest praise adorned, But highly now insulted, All hail to thee, I say! Thou countenance so noble, At which should shrink and quail The mighty world's great burden, How spat upon thou art; How pale thou art become now! Who hath thine eyes' bright light, Alike no other light once, So shamefully abused?
74 Scene 12: 馬太 Matthew 27: Evangelist: After mocking him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him. As they went out, they came upon a man from Cyrene named Simon; they compelled this man to carry his cross. As they went out, they came upon a man from Cyrene named Simon; they compelled this man to carry his cross. And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull), they offered him wine to drink, mixed with gall; but when he tasted it, he would not drink it. And when they had crucified him, they divided his clothes among themselves by casting lots; then they sat down there and kept watch over him. Over his head they put the charge against him, which read, This is Jesus, the King of the Jews. Then two bandits were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left. Those who passed by derided him, shaking their heads and saying: 戲弄完了 就給他脫了袍子 仍穿上他自己的衣服 帶他出去 要釘十字架 他們出來的時候 遇見一個古利奈人 名叫西門 ; 就勉強他同去 好背著耶穌的十字架 到了一個地方 名叫各各他 意思就是髑髏地 兵丁拿苦膽調和的酒 給耶穌喝 他嘗了 就不肯喝 他們既將他釘在十字架上 就拈鬮分他的衣服 又坐在那裡看守他 在他頭以上 安一個牌子 寫著他的罪狀 說 : 這是猶太人的王耶穌 當時 有兩個強盜 和他同釘十字架 一個在右邊 一個在左邊 從那裡經過的人 譏誚他 搖著頭說 : Chorus: You who would destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross. Evangelist: In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking him, saying:
75 Men: He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him. He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he wants to; for he said, I am God s Son. Evangelist: The bandits who were crucified with him also taunted him in the same way. From noon on, darkness came over the whole land * until three in the afternoon. And about three o clock Jesus cried with a loud voice: Evangelist: That is, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? When some of the bystanders heard it, they said: 站在那裡的人 有的聽見就說 : Chorus Sopranos & Tenors: This man is calling for Elijah. Evangelist: At once one of them ran and got a sponge, filled it with sour wine, put it on a stick, and gave it to him to drink. But the others said: 內中有一個人 趕緊跑去 拿海絨蘸滿了醋 綁在葦子上 送給他喝 其餘的人說 : Chorus Altos & Basses: Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him. Evangelist: Then Jesus cried again with a loud voice and breathed his last.
When once I must depart, Do not depart from me! When I must suffer death, Then stand Thou by me! When I most full of fear At heart shall be, Then snatch me from the terrors Of fear and pain by Thy strength.
Matthew 27: Evangelist: At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, and the rocks were split. The tombs also were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised. After his resurrection they came out of the tombs and entered the holy city and appeared to many. Now when the centurion and those with him, who were keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were terrified and said: 忽然殿裡的幔子 從上到下裂為兩半 地也震動 磐石也崩裂 墳墓也開了 已睡聖徒的身體 多有起來的 到耶穌復活以後 他們從墳墓裡出來 進了聖城 向許多人顯現 百夫長和一同看守耶穌的人 看見地震 並所經歷的事 就極其害怕 說 : Men: Truly this man was God s Son! Evangelist: Many women were also there, looking on from a distance; they had followed Jesus from Galilee and had provided for him. Among them were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee. When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who was also a disciple of Jesus. He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus; then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. So Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn in the rock. He then rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb and went away. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the tomb. The next day, that is, after the day of Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate and said:
Men: 79 Sir, we remember what that impostor said while he was still alive, After three days I will rise again. Therefore, command that the tomb be made secure until the third day; otherwise his disciples may go and steal him away, and tell the people, He has been raised from the dead, and the last deception would be worse than the first. Evangelist: Pilate said to them: 彼拉多說 : Pilate: You have a guard of soldiers; go, make it as secure as you can. Evangelist: So they went with the guard and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone.
