Application 3.1 Eligibility for Participation: To be eligible for participating in the 48 th Schools Dance Festival, schools must be a member of the Hong Kong Schools Dance Association Limited (HKSDA). 3.2 HKSDA Membership Registration: For the 2011/2012 school year, all schools entered for the Schools Dance Festival will be automatically enrolled as a school member of the HKSDA; they shall complete registration to the HKSDA on or before 31 st October 2011 (Monday). For the details, please refer to the attached notice from the HKSDA. 3.3 Fee: A fee of $200 will be charged for each dance or each team (DanceSport) entered. Payments should be made by a crossed cheque payable to the HONG KONG SCHOOLS DANCE ASSOCIATION LIMITED. Please state the school name on the back of the cheque. 3.4 Method: Schools are requested to complete the Master Entry Form and the Individual Dance Entry Form(s) (one form for each dance), and the DanceSport Entry Form (if applicable). Photocopies of entry forms are acceptable. The application forms together with the cheque should be sent to the following address: Physical Education Section Curriculum Development Institute Education Bureau 3/F., 323 Java Road, North Point, HK c/o Hong Kong Schools Dance Association Limited (48th Schools Dance Festival) 3.5 Deadline : 31 st October, 2011 (Monday) 3.6 For enquiries, please contact Ms Chrissy NG, the HKSDA at or Ms Maggie CHAN, the Physical Education Section, Curriculum Development Institute, EDB at Conditions of Entry 4.1 The A.M. session, P.M. session and whole day session of the same school shall be treated as 3 individual units when entering for the competitions. Combining units is not allowed and shall lead to disqualification. (Exception: A session with 6 or fewer classes may combine with another session of the same school.) 4.2 Schools staging upper primary students in lower primary division competitions (except in DanceSport) shall lead to disqualification of the dance. 4.3 In DanceSport Competitions, each team shall be composed of two students from the same school. All teams of the same school shall perform at the same time but shall be judged individually. 4.4 Schools should clear all copyright issues related to their dances. Infringement of copyright shall lead to disqualification. 2

3 4.5 The organiser reserves the rights to present the dances of all participating schools in any formats including but not limited to performance, text, audio and visual record. 4.6 Unauthorised videoing or photography are strictly prohibited at the competition venues. 5 5. Adjudication Criteria 5.1 All Dance Types The adjudication panel shall comprise four adjudicators. The final score of a performance shall be the average of the remaining scores after discarding the highest and the lowest. Awards and Souvenirs 6.1 Individual Dance Award Honours Award*# -- will be awarded to a dance scoring 85 marks or above Highly Commended Award*# -- will be awarded to a dance scoring 80 to 84.9 marks Commended Award* -- will be awarded to a dance scoring 75 to 79.9 marks Choreography Award -- will be given to choreographers attaining a high standard (only original choreography without prior stage performance will be considered for this award. The choreography details shall be provided on the day of competition). * A certificate will be awarded to each student of a dance winning the Commended Award or above. # A trophy will be awarded to a dance winning the Highly Commended Award or above. A certificate will be awarded to a dance winning the Choreography Award. 6.2 Overall Awards Awards achieved in Chinese Dance, Western Dance, Oriental Dance and Modern Dance will be converted to points as shown in the following table: Award Group Dance Solo/Duet/Trio Honours Award 16 points 5 points Highly Commended Award 9 points 3 points Commended Award 3 points 1 point The top three schools with the most points in each type of dances will receive an overall award. To be considered for such awards, a school has to enter at least two performances in the same type of dance. If there is a tie, all the scores that a school achieved in the same dance type will be summed; the school with the higher sum score shall win. 6.3 Souvenirs Each participating school will be given a souvenir pennant. 7. Schools Dance Festival Winners Performance cum Prize Presentations The Schools Dance Festival Winners Performance cum Prize Presentations will be held from 2 to 6 May 2012 at Sha Tin Town Hall. To provide more opportunities for students to participate, the performance will only include Honours Award group dances; the arrangement is as follows: (1) Schools that are Overall Award winners, with at least one Honours Award group dance will be invited to perform at the event; and (2) The remaining performance opportunities will be allocated through ballot, taking into account the percentage share of Honours Awards group dances of various types. 6

Schools Dance Show The Schools Dance Show will be held on 28 April 2012 at Hong Kong Cultural Centre. performance will give priorities to Honours Award Solo/Duet/Trio of various dances and DanceSports. The 9. Others 9.1 Dance Sharing It is a good opportunity for students to share and exchange their dance experiences in the Schools Dance Festival; The Organising Committee sincerely invites schools to arrange students to watch all other dance performances in the same session as far as possible. 9.2 Dance Appreciation Teachers are welcome to accompany their students to watch the dance competitions. The AM session is from 10:00 to 12:00 noon and the PM session is from 2:30 to 4:30. The maximum number of visitors for each venue in each session is 40. Schools that are interested in the arrangement, please complete and fax (Fax No.: ) the Dance Appreciation Application Form to Ms Maggie CHAN, the Physical Education Section on or before 16 th December 2011 (Friday). Notification will be sent to school in due course. 7

14 Hong Kong Schools Dance Association Limited Notice To: Heads of Primary, Secondary & Special Schools 30 September 2011 The Hong Kong Schools Dance Association Limited (HKSDA) has been actively involved in organising the Schools Dance Festival with the Education Bureau in the past 14 years. The preparation works of the 48th Schools Dance Festival has already begun. With effect from the 2011/2012 school year, schools must enrolled as a school member of the HKSDA, in order to participate in the 48th Schools Dance Festival. As a special arrangement for the transition period, schools will be automatically enrolled as a school member of the HKSDA for the 2011/2012 school year if schools participate in the 48th Schools Dance Festival. Also, the admission fee and the annual subscription for the 2011/2012 school year will be waived. Participating schools shall register as a school member of the HKSDA on or before 31 October 2011, please refer to the School Membership Registration Note for more information. 2010/2011 school members are not required to submit the registration form. Schools who do not intend to participate in the 48 th School Dance Festival can also enjoy the waiving of admission fee and annual subscription by registering as a school member this year. Remarks : Schools with am, pm and whole-day sessions must make separate registrations for memberships. Fee As a special arrangement for the transition period, admission fee and annual subscription will be waived in 2011/12. Registration Procedures Please complete and return the registration form to Room B-2, 15/F, Block B, Po Yip Building, Texaco Road, Tsuen Wan, N.T., H.K. Schools can also complete and return the registration form with the application form of the Schools Dance Festival to Physical Education Section, Curriculum Development Institute, Education Bureau (3/F., 323, Java Road, North Point).
