9 Getting Started This section explains how to connect audio/video components and speakers to the receiver, and how to connect the power supply. Before Installation General Precautions Be sure your hands are dry. Turn the power off to all components. Read the manuals supplied with the components you are going to connect. Locations Install the receiver in a location that is level and protected from moisture and dust. The temperature around the receiver must be between 5 C and 35 C. Make sure there is good ventilation around the receiver. Poor ventilation could cause overheating and damage the receiver. Handling the receiver Do not insert any metal object into the receiver. Do not disassemble the receiver or remove screws, covers, or cabinet. Do not expose the receiver to rain or moisture. Notes: Supplied batteries are for the initial setup. Replace for continued use. For RX-6042S: After replacing the batteries, set the manufacturers codes again (see pages 35 and 36). CAUTION: Follow these precautions to avoid leaking or cracking cells: Place batteries in the remote control so they match the polarity: (+) to (+) and ( ) to ( ). Use the correct type of batteries. Batteries that look similar may differ in voltage. Always replace both batteries at the same time. Do not expose batteries to heat or flame. Connecting the FM and AM Antennas FM antenna connections English Checking the Supplied Accessories Check to be sure you have all of the following items, which are supplied with the receiver. The number in the parentheses indicates quantity of the pieces supplied. Make sure to match the polarity: (+) to (+) and ( ) to ( ). 3 Replace the cover. If the remote control cannot transmit signals or operate the receiver correctly, replace the batteries. Use two R6(SUM-3)/AA(15F) type dry-cell batteries. Connect the supplied FM antenna as temporary measure to the FM 75 Ω COAXIAL terminal A If reception is poor, connect the outdoor FM antenna (not supplied) B 1 Disconnect the supplied FM antenna. 2 Connect a 75 Ω coaxial cable with the standard type connector (IEC or D45325). 5

Outdoor single vinyl-covered wire (not supplied) Turn the loop until you have the best reception. Notes: If the AM loop antenna wire is covered with vinyl, remove the vinyl by twisting it as illustrated. Make sure the antenna conductors do not touch any other terminals, connecting cords and power cord. This could cause poor reception. If reception is poor, connect an outdoor single vinyl-covered wire (not supplied) to the AM EXT terminal. (Keep the AM loop antenna connected.) CAUTIONS: Use only the speakers of the SPEAKER IMPEDANCE indicated by the speaker terminals. Do not connect more than one speaker to each speaker terminal. 11 Connecting the subwoofer You can enhance the bass by connecting a subwoofer. Connect the input jack of a powered subwoofer to the rear panel, using a cable with RCA pin plugs (not supplied). Connecting Audio/Video Components When connecting individual components, refer also to the manuals supplied with them. English SUBWOOFER OUT Powered subwoofer Placing speakers Front speakers (L/R) and center speaker (C) Place these speakers at the same height from the floor, at or near ear level. Array across the front of the viewing area. Surround speakers (LS/RS) Place these speakers alongside and slightly to the rear of (but not behind) the listening position; well above ear level (60 cm to 90 cm higher). Point these speakers directly across the listening area, but not at the listener s ears. Subwoofer (S.WFR) You can place it wherever you like since bass sound is nondirectional. Normally place it in front of you. Analog Connections Audio component connections Use the cables with RCA pin plugs (not supplied). Connect the white plug to the audio left jack, and the red plug to the audio right jack. If your audio components have a COMPU LK jack See also page 30 for detailed information about the connection and the COMPU LK remote control system. CAUTION: If you connect a sound-enhancing device such as a graphic equalizer between the source components and this receiver, the sound output through this receiver may be distorted. You can use Quick Speaker Setup for it (see page 18). Note: R OUT (REC) TAPE /CDR (PLAY) When connecting a CD recorder to the TAPE/CDR jacks, change the source name to CDR, which will be shown on the display when it is selected as the source. 12 Getting Started English Video component connections Use the cables with RCA pin plugs (not supplied). Connect the white plug to the audio left jack, the red plug to the audio right jack, and the yellow plug to the video jack. For RX-6042S: If your video components have the video input/ output jacks of different types, connect them by using these jacks, you can get better picture quality in the order: TV Component video > S-video > Composite video However, the video signals from one type of these input jacks are transmitted only through the video output jacks of the same type. If your video components have an AV COMPU LK jack See also page 31 for detailed information about the connection and the AV COMPU LK remote control system. 13 DVD player When you connect a DVD player with stereo output jacks: Only for RX-6042S When you connect a DVD player with its analog discrete output (5.1-channel reproduction) jacks: English Only for RX-6042S This connection is the best connection method for enjoying DVD Audio sounds. When a DVD Audio disc is played back, the original highquality sounds can be reproduced only using this connection. 14 Getting Started English Digital Connections By connecting the receiver and the source component through the digital terminals, sound reproduction quality will be much improved. In addition, you can enjoy multi-channel reproduction and some other convenient functions. IMPORTANT: When connecting a video component using the digital terminals, you also need to connect it to the video jacks on the rear. Without connecting it to the video jacks, you can view no playback picture. After connecting the components using the DIGITAL terminals, set the following correctly if necessary. Set the digital input (DIGITAL ) terminal setting correctly. For details, see Setting the Digital Input Terminals on page 22. Select the digital input mode correctly. For details, see Selecting the Analog or Digital Input Mode on page 13. Digital input terminals You can connect any digital components having coaxial or optical digital output terminal. Notes: When shipped from the factory, the DIGITAL terminals have been set for use with the following components: DIGITAL 1 (coaxial): For DVD player DIGITAL 2 (optical): For CD player Only for RX-6042S: DIGITAL 3 (optical): For digital TV broadcast tuner When you want to operate the CD player or CD recorder using the COMPU LK remote control system (see page 30), connect it also as described in Analog Connections (see page 7). When you want to operate a DVD player or TV using the AV COMPU LK remote control system (see page 31), connect it also as described in Analog Connections (see pages 8 and 9). Adjusting the Voltage Selector Before connections, always do the following first if necessary. Select the correct voltage with the VOLTAGE SELECTOR switch on the rear using a screw driver. Check to be sure if the voltage mark is set to the voltage for the area where you use this unit. DIGITAL 1 (DVD) DIGITAL 2 (CD) DIGITAL 3 (TV) DIGITAL Voltage mark Connecting the Power Cord Before plugging the receiver into an AC outlet, make sure that all connections have been made. Plug the power cord into an AC outlet. Keep the power cord away from the connecting cables and the antenna. The power cord may cause noise or screen interference. Notes: The preset settings such as preset channels and sound adjustment may be erased in a few days in the following cases: When you unplug the power cord. When a power failure occurs. If the wall outlet does not match the AC plug, use the supplied AC plug adaptor. CAUTIONS: Do not plug in before setting the VOLTAGE SELECTOR switch on the rear of the unit and all connection procedures are complete. Do not touch the power cord with wet hands. Do not pull on the power cord to unplug the cord. When unplugging the cord, always grasp the plug so as not to damage the cord.

15 Basic Operations The following operations are commonly used when you play any sound sources. Operations hereafter will be explained using the buttons on the front panel. You can also use the buttons on the remote control for the same functions if they have the same and similar names/marks. English Daily Operational Procedure Selecting the Source to Play When you have connected digital source components using the digital terminals, first change the input mode for these components to the digital input mode (see page 13). 1 Turn on the power. See Turning On the Power below. 2 Select the source. See Selecting the Source to Play to the right. 3 Adjust the volume. See Adjusting the Volume on page Select the Surround or DSP modes. Surround and DSP modes (see pages 25 and 28) cannot be applied to DVD MULTI. For RX-5042S Current volume level appears. To turn off the power (into standby mode), press STANDBY/ON (or STANDBY/ON AUDIO on the remote control) again. The STANDBY lamp lights up. Note: A small amount of power is consumed in standby mode. To turn off the power completely, unplug the AC power cord. 16 Basic Operations English Speaker and signal indicators on the display By checking the following indicators, you can easily confirm which speakers you are activating and which signals are coming into this receiver. Speaker indicators Signal indicators Selecting different sources for picture and sound While watching pictures from a video source, you can listen to sound of an audio source. Once you have selected a video source, pictures of the selected source are sent to the TV until you select another video source. SB SB What speaker indicators light depends on the speaker setting (for details, see Setting the Speakers on page 20). The frames of L, C, R, LS, and RS light up, when the corresponding speakers are set to LARGE or SMALL. Sounds come out of the speakers whose speaker indicators is lit on the display. The indicator lights up when the subwoofer is activated (see pages 13 and 20). The signal indicators light up to show the incoming signals. L: When digital input is selected: Lights up when the left channel signal comes in. When analog input is selected: Always lights up. R: When digital input is selected: Lights up when the right channel signal comes in. When analog input is selected: Always lights up. C: Lights up when the center channel signal comes in. LFE: Lights up when the LFE channel signal comes in. LS: Lights up when the left surround channel signal comes in. RS: Lights up when the right surround channel signal comes in. S: Lights up when the monaural surround channel signal comes in. SB: Lights up when the surround back channel signal comes in. Note: For RX-6042S: When DVD MULTI is selected as the source, L, C, R, LFE, LS, and RS light up. To decrease the volume, turn it counterclockwise. How to understand the speaker and signal indicator illumination Ex. No sound comes out of the center speaker and surround speakers though center channel and surround channel signals are coming into this receiver. On the remote control: To increase the volume, press VOLUME +. To decrease the volume, press VOLUME. CAUTION: Always set the volume to the minimum before starting any sources. If the volume is set at its high level, the sudden blast of sound energy can permanently damage your hearing and/ or ruin your speakers. Note: The volume level can be adjusted within the range of 0 (minimum) to 50 (maximum). 12

17 Listening with headphones: You can enjoy not only stereo software but also multichannel software through the headphones. (Sounds are down-mixed to the front channels while playing multi-channel software.) 1 Press SPEAKERS ON/OFF to deactivate the speakers. HEADPHONE appears for a while, and the H.PHONE indicator lights on the display. If the Surround or DSP mode has been activated, 3D H PHONE appears for a while (and the DSP indicator also lights up on the display) 3D Headphone Mode (3D H PHONE). For details, see pages 26 and Connect the headphones to the PHONES jack on the front panel. If you do not deactivate the speakers, no sound comes out of the headphones. After using the headphones, disconnect the headphones, then press SPEAKERS ON/OFF again to activate the speakers. CAUTION: Be sure to turn down the volume... Before connecting or putting on headphones, as its high volume can damage both the headphones and your hearing. Before turning on speakers again, as its high volume may come out of the speakers. Turning On and Off the Subwoofer Sound Remote NOT Remote NOT Selecting the Analog or Digital Input Mode When you have connected digital source components using the both analog and digital terminals (see pages 7 to 10), you can select the input mode either digital or analog for these components. Before you start, remember... The digital input terminal setting should be correctly done for the sources you want to select the digital input mode (see Setting the Digital Input Terminals on page 22). 1 Press one of the source selection buttons (DVD, TV SOUND, CD, TAPE/CDR*) for which you want to change the input mode. * If TAPE is selected as the source, digital input mode is not available. To change the source name, see Changing the Source Name on page Press PUT DIGITAL to select DIGITAL AUTO. The DIGITAL AUTO indicator lights up on the display. When using the remote control, press ANALOG/DIGITAL. Each time you press the button, the analog (ANALOG) and digital (DIGITAL AUTO) input modes alternate. English You can cancel the subwoofer output even though you have connected a subwoofer and have set SUBWOOFER to SUBWOOFER YES (see page 20). Press SUBWOOFER OUT ON/OFF to cancel the subwoofer output. Each time you press the button, subwoofer output is deactivated ( SUBWOOFER OFF ) and activated ( SUBWOOFER ON ) alternately. When subwoofer output is canceled, the indicator goes off. Bass sounds (and LFE signals) will be emitted through the front speakers. Notes: When subwoofer output is activated, you can also adjust the subwoofer output level. For details, see page 24. You cannot deactivate the subwoofer output when you set SMALL for the front speakers on the speaker size setting (see page 20) or using Quick Speaker Setup (see page 18). You cannot activate the subwoofer output when you have set SUBWOOFER to SUBWOOFER NO (see page 20). When you change the SUBWOOFER setting from SUBWOOFER NO to SUBWOOFER YES (see page 20), subwoofer output is automatically activated. When selecting DIGITAL AUTO, the following indicators indicate the digital signal format of the incoming signal. : Lights up when Linear PCM signals come in. : Lights up when Dolby Digital signals come in. : Lights up when conventional DTS signals come in. : Lights up when DTS 96/24 signals come in. No indicator lights up when the receiver cannot recognize the digital signal format of the incoming signals. Note: For details about the digital signal formats, see pages 25 and 26. 18 Basic Operations English When playing software encoded with Dolby Digital or DTS, the following symptoms may occur: Sound does not come out at the beginning of playback. Noise comes out while searching for or skipping chapters or tracks. In this case, press PUT DIGITAL repeatedly to select DOLBY DIGITAL or DTS SURROUND. Each time you press PUT DIGITAL, the input mode changes as follows: Remote NOT Attenuating the Input Signal Remote NOT When the input level of the analog source is too high, the sounds will be distorted. If this happens, you need to attenuate the input signal level to prevent the sound distortion. Once you have made adjustment, it is memorized for each analog source. DIGITAL AUTO DOLBY DIGITAL DTS SURROUND When DOLBY DIGITAL or DTS SURROUND is selected, the DIGITAL AUTO indicator goes off, and the corresponding digital signal format indicator lights up on the display. If the incoming signal does not match the selected digital signal format, the indicator of the selected signal format will flash. Note: When you turn off the power or select another source, DOLBY DIGITAL and DTS SURROUND settings are canceled and the digital input mode is automatically reset to DIGITAL AUTO. To select the analog input mode Press PUT ANALOG (or ANALOG/DIGITAL on the remote control repeatedly until ANALOG appears on the display). The ANALOG indicator lights up. Press and hold PUT ATT (PUT ANALOG) so that the PUT ATT indicator lights up on the display. Each time you press and hold the button, the input attenuator mode turns on ( PUT ATT ON ) and off ( PUT NORMAL ). Note: For RX-6042S: This function is not valid when DVD MULTI is selected. Changing the Source Name Remote NOT When you have connected a CD recorder to the TAPE/CDR jacks on the rear panel, change the source name which will be shown on the display. Changing the Display Brightness You can dim the display. When changing the source name from TAPE to CDR : 1 Press TAPE/CDR (SOURCE NAME). Make sure TAPE appears on the display. 2 Press and hold SOURCE NAME (TAPE/CDR) until ASSIGN CDR appears on the display. Press DIMMER. Each time you press the button, the display dims and brightens alternately. To change the source name back to TAPE, repeat the same procedure above. Note: Without changing the source name, you can still use the connected components. However, there may be some inconvenience. TAPE will appear on the display when you select the CD recorder. You cannot use the digital input (see page 13) for the CD recorder. 14

19 The following basic operations are possible only using the remote control. Using the Sleep Timer Using the Sleep Timer, you can fall asleep while listening to music. When the shut-off time comes, the receiver turns off automatically. English Press SLEEP repeatedly. The SLEEP indicator lights up on the display, and the shut-off time changes in 10 minutes intervals: TA/NEWS/FO SLEEP REW FF REC PAUSE CD-DISC BASSBOOST MUTG Using the Sleep Timer Muting the Sound Reinforcing the Bass (Only for RX-6042S) OFF (Canceled) To check or change the time remaining until the shut-off time: Press SLEEP once. The remaining time until the shut-off time appears in minutes. To change the shut-off time, press SLEEP repeatedly. To cancel the Sleep Timer: Press SLEEP repeatedly until SLEEP OFF appears on the display. The SLEEP indicator goes off. Turning off the power also cancels the Sleep Timer. Reinforcing the Bass This function is only for RX-6042S. You can boost the bass level. Once you have made adjustment, it is memorized for each source. Press BASSBOOST to boost the bass level. The BASS BOOST indicator lights up on the display. Each time you press the button, Bass Boost turns on ( BASSBOOST ON ) and off ( BASSBOOST OFF ) alternately. Note: This function affects only the sounds from the front speakers. Muting the Sound Press MUTG to mute the sound through all speakers and headphones connected. MUTG appears on the display and the volume turns off (the VOLUME indicator and its level indication go off). To restore the sound, press MUTG again. Turning MASTER VOLUME on the front panel or pressing VOLUME +/ on the remote control also restores the sound. Recording a source You can record any sources playing through the receiver to a cassette deck (or a CD recorder) connected to the TAPE/CDR jacks and the VCR connected to the VCR jacks at the same time. While recording, you can listen to the selected sound source at whatever sound level you like without affecting the sound levels of the recording. Note: The output volume level, Midnight Mode (see page 21), Bass Boost (only for RX-6042S), Equalization patterns (see page 24), Surround modes and DSP modes (see pages 25 to 29) cannot affect the recording. Basic adjustment auto memory This receiver memorizes sound settings for each source when you turn off the power, when you change the source, when you change the analog/digital input modes, and when you assign the source name (see page 14). When you change the source, the memorized settings for the newly selected source are automatically recalled. The following can be stored for each source: Analog/digital input mode (see page 13) Input attenuator mode (see page 14) Equalization pattern (see page 24) Speaker output levels (see page 24) Surround and DSP mode selection (see pages 25 and 28) Bass Boost setting (only for RX-6042S) Notes: If the source is FM or AM, you can assign a different setting for each band. A sound setting assigned for a digital component is valid for both the analog and digital input modes. 15

20 English Receiving Radio Broadcasts You can browse through all the stations or use the preset function to go immediately to a particular station. Setting the AM Tuner Interval Spacing Remote NOT Notes: When a station of sufficient signal strength is tuned in, the TUNED indicator lights up on the display. When an FM stereo program is received, the STEREO indicator also lights up. When you hold and then release the button in step 2, the frequency keeps changing until a station is tuned in. Using Preset Tuning Some countries space AM stations 9 khz apart, and other countries use 10 khz spacing. Select the appropriate interval spacing setting to receive the AM broadcasting in your area. 9 khz interval spacing is the initial setting. You can change the AM tuner interval spacing only when the unit is in standby mode. To select the 10 khz interval: Hold down FM/AM TUNG 5 and press STANDBY/ON. 10k STEP appears on the display. Now the 10 khz interval is selected. To change back to the 9 khz interval: Hold down FM/AM TUNG and press STANDBY/ON. 9k STEP appears on the display. Now the 9 khz interval is selected. Note: When you change the AM tuner interval spacing, stored preset stations are erased. In this case, restore stations. Once a station is assigned to a channel number, the station can be quickly tuned in. You can preset up to 30 FM and 15 AM stations. To store the preset stations Remote NOT Before you start, remember... There is a time limit in doing the following steps. If the setting is canceled before you finish, start from step 2 again. 1 Tune in the station you want to preset (see Tuning in to Stations Manually ). If you want to store the FM reception mode for this station, select the FM reception mode you want. See Selecting the FM Reception Mode on page 17. Tuning in to Stations Manually Remote NOT 2 Press MEMORY. TUNED STEREO AUTO MUTG VOLUME The channel number position starts flashing on the display for about 5 seconds. 1 Select the band (FM or AM). For RX-6042S: Press FM or AM. For RX-5042S: Press FM/AM. Each time you press the button, the band alternates between FM and AM. 3 Press FM/AM PRESET 5 or to select a channel number while the channel number position is flashing. TUNED STEREO AUTO MUTG VOLUME 16 TUNED STEREO AUTO MUTG VOLUME The last received station of the selected band is tuned in. 2 Press FM/AM TUNG 5 or repeatedly until you find the frequency you want. Pressing FM/AM TUNG 5 increases the frequency. Pressing FM/AM TUNG decreases the frequency. 4 Press MEMORY again while the selected channel number is flashing on the display. The selected channel number stops flashing. The station is assigned to the selected channel number. 5 Repeat steps 1 to 4 until you store all the stations you want. To erase a stored preset station Storing a new station on a used number erases the previously stored one.

21 To tune in a preset station On the front panel: Selecting the FM Reception Mode English 1 Select the band (FM or AM). For RX-6042S: Press FM or AM. For RX-5042S: Press FM/AM. Each time you press the button, the band alternates between FM and AM. 2 Press FM/AM PRESET 5 or until you find the channel you want. Pressing FM/AM PRESET 5 increases the number. Pressing FM/AM PRESET decreases the number. When an FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive or noisy, you can change the FM reception mode while receiving an FM broadcast. You can store the FM reception mode for each preset station (see page 16). While listening to an FM station, press FM MODE. Each time you press the button, the FM reception mode alternates between AUTO MUTG and MODE MONO. TUNED STEREO AUTO MUTG On the remote control: AUTO MUTG MODE MONO REC PAUSE FM/AM REW 1 Press FM/AM to select the band. The last received station of the selected band is tuned in. Each time you press the button, the band alternates between FM and AM. CD-DISC 2 Press the 10 keys to select a preset channel number. For channel number 5, press 5. For channel number 15, press +10 then 5. For channel number 20, press +10 then 10. For channel number 30, press +10, +10, then TA/NEWS/FO FF AUTO MUTG: Normally select this. When a program is broadcasted in stereo, you will hear stereo sound; when in monaural, you will hear monaural sounds. This mode is also useful to suppress static noise between stations. The AUTO MUTG indicator lights up on the display. (Initial setting) MODE MONO: Select this to improve the reception (but stereo effect will be lost). In this mode, you will hear noise while tuning in to the stations. The AUTO MUTG indicator goes off from the display (the STEREO indicator goes off). Note: After you operate any source other than the tuner using the remote control, the FM MODE button on the remote control does not work. In this case, press FM/AM on the remote control, then press FM MODE. Note: When you use the 10 keys on the remote control, be sure that they are activated for the tuner, not for the CD and others. (See page 33.) 17

22 English Basic Settings Some of the following settings are required after connecting and positioning your speakers while others will make operations easier. You can use QUICK SPEAKER SETUP to easily set up your speaker configuration. Quick Speaker Setup Remote NOT Quick Speaker Setup helps you to easily and quickly register the speaker size and speaker distance according to your listening room to create the best possible surround effect. You can also register each speaker s information manually. For details, see page Press in MULTI JOG (PUSH SET). COMPLETE appears on the display, then goes back to the source indication. Notes: This procedure will not be completed if you stop in the middle of the setting process. Once Quick Speaker Setup is performed, the speaker output levels are also set to appropriate values automatically (common to all sources). If you want to set the speaker output levels separately for each source, see Adjusting the Speaker Output Levels on page 24. Before you start, remember... There is a time limit in doing the following steps. If the setting is canceled before you finish, start from step 1 again. 1 Press QUICK SPEAKER SETUP. SPK= and the initial speaker channel number (5.0CH) appears. 2 Turn MULTI JOG to select an appropriate number of the connected speakers (speaker channel number). 24 Basic Settings English Setting the Speakers To obtain the best possible surround effect from the Surround and DSP modes, register the setting about the speaker arrangement after all connections are completed. If you have used Quick Speaker Setup on page 18, this setting is not required. Speaker distance FRONT L DIST, FRONT R DIST, CENTER DIST, SURR L DIST, SURR R DIST Set the distance from the listening point within the range of 0.3 m (1 ft) to 9.0 m (30 ft), in 0.3 m (1 ft) intervals. When shipped from the factory, distance for each speaker is set to 3.0m (10FT). Subwoofer setting SUBWOOFER Select whether you have connected a subwoofer or not. SUBWOOFER YES: Select when a subwoofer is connected. SUBWOOFER NO: Select when no subwoofer is used. Note: If you have selected SUBWOOFER NO for the subwoofer, you cannot use the SUBWOOFER OUT ON/OFF button on the front panel. Speaker size FRNT SPEAKERS, CNTR SPEAKER, SURR SPEAKERS Select the size for each connected speaker. LARGE: SMALL: NONE: Notes: Select when the speaker size is relatively large. Select when the speaker size is relatively small. Select this when you have not connected a speaker. (Not selectable for the front speakers) Keep the following comments in mind as reference when adjusting. If the size of the cone speaker unit built in your speaker is larger than 12 cm, select LARGE, and if it is smaller than 12 cm, select SMALL. If you have selected SUBWOOFER NO for the subwoofer setting, you can only select LARGE for the front speakers. If you have selected SMALL for the front speakers, you cannot select LARGE for the center and surround speakers. Setting the Speaker Distance The distance from your listening point to the speakers is another important element to obtain the best possible sound of the Surround and DSP modes. Set the distance from your listening point to the speakers. By referring to the speaker distance setting, this unit automatically sets the delay time of the sound through each speaker so that sounds through all the speakers can reach you with the same timing. If you have used Quick Speaker Setup on page 18, this setting is not required. Measuring unit DISTANCE UNIT Select which measuring unit you use. UNIT METER: Select to set the distance in meters. UNIT FEET: Select to set the distance in feet. Notes: You cannot set the speaker distance for the speakers you have selected NONE. For RX-6042S: This setting is not valid for DVD MULTI. LS L 2.1 m (7 ft) 2.4 m (8 ft) 3.3 m (11 ft) 3.0 m (10 ft) 2.7 m (9 ft) Ex. In the above case, set the speaker distance as follows: Front speakers: 3.0m (10FT) Center speaker: 3.0m (10FT) Surround speakers: 2.7m (9FT) Setting the Bass Sounds You can adjust subwoofer and bass sounds precisely according to your preference. Subwoofer output SUBWOOFER OUT You can select the type of the signal which can be transmitted through the subwoofer. In other words, you can determine whether or not the bass elements of the front speaker channels are transmitted through the subwoofer regardless of the front speaker size setting (either SMALL or LARGE ). Select one of the following: SWFR LFE: Select to emit only the LFE signals (while playing Dolby Digital and DTS software) or the bass elements of the SMALL front speakers (while playing any source other than the above). SWFR LFE+MA: Select to always emit the bass elements of the front speaker channels (MA). While playing Dolby Digital and DTS software, the bass element and the LFE signals are both emitted. Note: If you have selected SUBWOOFER NO for the subwoofer, this function is not available. C R RS 20

25 Crossover frequency CROSSOVER You can select the crossover frequency for the small speakers used. The signals below the preset frequency level will be sent to and be reproduced by the subwoofer (or by LARGE speakers when SUBWOOFER is set to SUBWOOFER NO ). Select one of the crossover frequency levels according to the size of the small speaker connected. CROSS 80HZ: Select when the cone speaker unit built in the speaker is about 12 cm. CROSS 100HZ: Select when the cone speaker unit built in the speaker is about 10 cm. CROSS 120HZ: Select when the cone speaker unit built in the speaker is about 8 cm. CROSS 150HZ: Select when the cone speaker unit built in the speaker is about 6 cm. CROSS 200HZ: Select when the cone speaker unit built in the speaker is about 5 cm. Notes: If you have selected LARGE for all activated speakers (see page 20), this function is fixed to CROSS OFF. Crossover frequency is not valid for HEADPHONE, 3D H PHONE (and DVD MULTI for RX-6042S). Low frequency effect attenuator LFE ATTENUATE If the bass sound is distorted while playing back software encoded with Dolby Digital or DTS, set the LFE level to eliminate distortion. This function takes effect only when the LFE signals come in. Select one of the following: LFE ATT 0dB: Normally select this. LFE ATT 10dB: Select when the bass sound is distorted. Selecting the Main or Sub Channel You can select the playback sound (channel) you want while playing digital software recorded (or broadcast) in Dual Mono mode (see page 26), which includes two monaural channels separately. Dual Mono DUAL MONO Select the playback sounds (channel). MONO MA: Select to play back the main channel (Ch 1).* Signal indicator L lights up while playing back this channel. MONO SUB: Select to play back the sub-channel (Ch 2).* Signal indicator R lights up while playing back this channel. Notes: MONO ALL: Select to play back both the main and subchannels (Ch 1/Ch 2).* Signal indicators L and R light up while playing back these channels. The Dual Mono format is not identical with bilingual broadcasting or the MTS (Multichannel Television Sound) format used for TV programs. So this setting does not take effect while watching bilingual or MTS programs. * Dual Mono signals can be heard from the following speakers L (left front speaker), R (right front speaker), and C (center speaker) with respect to the current Surround setting. Setting for Easy and Effective Surround Operations Auto Surround AUTO SURROUND Auto Surround works when the unit detects the incoming digital signal. In other words, it works... When you select the digital source (the source with digital input selected for it), and When you change the input mode from analog to digital. Select AUTO SURR ON to activate Auto Surround. AUTO SURR ON: When multi-channel signal is detected, an appropriate Surround mode will be turned on. When Dolby Digital 2-channel with surround signals is detected, PLII MOVIE will be selected. When Dolby Digital 2-channel without surround signals is detected, SURROUND OFF will be selected. When Linear PCM signal is detected, nothing will change. VRTL SB ON: While you play Dolby Digital EX software or DTS-ES software, the VIRTUAL SB (Surround Back) indicator lights up. VRTL SB OFF: Select to deactivate Virtual Surround Back. Notes: When you have set NONE for SURR SPEAKERS, this function is not available. While playing back DTS-ES Matrix software with DTS 96/24, DTS 96/24 processing will not be performed with Virtual Surround Back activated. To apply the processing, deactivate Virtual Surround Back. Virtual Surroud Back may not be applied to some software. 28 Adjusting Sound English Adjusting the Equalization Patterns You can adjust the equalization patterns to your preference. Once you have made adjustment, it is memorized for each source. Only for RX-6042S: For Surround and DSP modes (when the center speaker is connected) Equalization adjustment DEQ 63HZ, DEQ250HZ, DEQ 1KHZ, DEQ 4KHZ, DEQ16KHZ You can adjust five frequencies (63 Hz, 250 Hz, 1 khz, 4 khz, 16 khz) within the range of 8 db to +8 db in 2 db steps. When adjustment is made, the DIGITAL EQ indicator lights up on the display. To flat the equalization pattern, set all the frequencies to 0 (0 db) in step 4 of Basic Procedure (on page 23). The DIGITAL EQ indicator goes off from the display. Note: The equalization patterns affect the front speaker sounds only. Adjusting the Speaker Output Levels You can adjust the speaker output levels. Once you have made adjustment, it is memorized for each source. Adjustable speakers SUBWFR LEVEL, FRONT L LEVEL, FRONT R LEVEL, CENTER LEVEL, SURR L LEVEL, SURR R LEVEL You can adjust the connected speakers output levels within the range of 10 db to +10 db. Notes: If you have deactivated a speaker (see page 20), the output level adjustment for the speaker is not adjustable. For RX-6042S: All speakers output levels (except the subwoofer) are always adjustable for DVD MULTI. Adjusting the Sound Parameters for the Surround and DSP Modes You can adjust the Surround and DSP sound parameters to your preference. (For Surround and DSP modes, see pages 25 and 28.) When center speaker is set to NONE, you cannot adjust the center tone (CENTER TONE). Adjustable parameters You can adjust the following parameters: For DAP modes and Mono Film Once you have made adjustment, it is memorized for each mode. EFFECT: For Pro Logic II Music only Adjust the effect level. As the number increases, the effect becomes stronger. (Adjustable range: 1 to 5. Normally select 3. ) PANORAMA CTRL: Select PANORAMA ON to add wraparound sound effect with side-wall image. To cancel it, select PANORAMA OFF. CENTER TONE: Adjust the center tone. As the number increases, the dialogue becomes clearer so that the human voices change from soft to sharp. (Adjustable range: 1 to 5. Normally select 3. ) Note: This setting is common to all Surround modes, and is memorized separately for DSP modes. You can also use the remote control for adjusting the speaker output level using the test tone. You can also adjust the effect level for DAP modes and Mono Film. LEVEL To adjust the speaker output level: TA/NEWS/FO 1 Press SOUND. REW FF The 10 keys are activated for sound REC PAUSE CD-DISC adjustments. 2 Press TEST to check if you can hear the sounds through all the speakers at equal level. Test tone (TEST TONE) comes out of the speakers in the following order. No test tone comes out of the speakers for which the speaker setting is set to NONE (or SUBWOOFER NO for the subwoofer). 29 Using the Surround Modes This unit activates a variety of Surround modes automatically. The basic settings and adjustments stored (see pages 18 to 24) are applied automatically. English Reproducing Theater Ambience In a movie theater, many speakers are located on the walls to reproduce impressive multi-surround sounds, reaching you from all directions. With these many speakers, sound localization and sound movement can be expressed. Surround modes built in this receiver can create almost the same surround sounds as you can feel in a real movie theater with only a limited number of the speakers. Subwoofer Introducing the Surround Modes Dolby Digital* 1 Dolby Digital is a digital signal compression method, developed by Dolby Laboratories, and enables multi-channel encoding and decoding (1ch up to 5.1ch). When Dolby Digital signal is detected through the digital input, the indicator lights up on the display. Dolby Digital 5.1CH Dolby Digital 5.1CH (DOLBY DIGITAL) encoding method records and digitally compresses the left front channel, right front channel, center channel, left surround channel, right surround channel, and LFE channel signals (total 6 channels, but the LFE channel is counted as 0.1 channel. Therefore, called 5.1 channel). Dolby Digital enables stereo surround sounds, and sets the cutoff frequency of the surround treble at 20 khz, compared to 7 khz for Dolby Pro Logic. As such, the sound movement and being-there feeling are enhanced much more than Dolby Pro Logic. Another digital surround encoding format introduced by Dolby Laboratories is Dolby Digital EX, which adds the third surround channels, called surround back. Compared to the conventional Dolby Digital 5.1CH, these newly added surround back channels can reproduce more detailed movements behind you while viewing the video software. In addition, surround sound localization will become more stable. You can use Virtual Surround Back (see page 22) when playing back Dolby Digital EX software. This function creates the great surround effect from the behind as if you have connected the surround back speakers. Dolby Pro Logic II Dolby Pro Logic II is a multi-channel playback format to convert 2-channel software into 5-channel (plus subwoofer). The matrixbased conversion method used for Dolby Pro Logic II makes no limitation for the cutoff frequency of the surround treble and enables stereo surround sound. This receiver provides two types of Dolby Pro Logic II modes Pro Logic II Movie (PLII MOVIE) and Pro Logic II Music (PLII MUSIC). When Dolby Pro Logic II is activated, the PRO LOGIC indicator lights up on the display. Left front speaker (L) Center speaker (C) Right front speaker (R) PLII MOVIE: PLII MUSIC: Suitable for playing any Dolby Surround encoded software. You can enjoy a sound field very close to the one created with discrete 5.1- channel sounds. Suitable for playing any 2-channel stereo software. You can enjoy wide and deep sounds. Left surround speaker (LS) Right surround speaker (RS) * 1 Manufactured under license from Dolby Laboratories. Dolby, Pro Logic, and the double-d symbol are trademarks of Dolby Laboratories. 25

30 Using the Surround Modes English DTS* 2 DTS is another digital signal compression method, developed by Digital Theater Systems, Inc., and enables multi-channel encoding and decoding (1ch up to 6.1ch). When DTS signal is detected through the digital input, the indicator lights up on the display. DTS Digital Surround DTS Digital Surround (DTS SURROUND) is another discrete 5.1-channel digital audio format available on CD, LD, and DVD software. Compared to Dolby Digital, the DTS Digital Surround format has a lower audio compression rate which enables it to add breadth and depth to the sounds reproduced. As such, DTS Digital Surround features natural, solid, and clear sound. Another multi-channel digital encoding format introduced by Digital Theater Systems, Inc. is DTS Extended Surround (DTS-ES). It greatly improves the 360-degree surround impression and space expression by adding the third surround channel surround back channel. DTS-ES includes two signal formats with different surround signal recording methods DTS-ES Discrete 6.1ch and DTS-ES Matrix 6.1ch. You can use Virtual Surround Back (see page 22) when playing back DTS-ES software. This function creates the great surround effect from the behind as if you have connected the surround back speakers. DTS 96/24 In recent years, there has been increasing interest in higher sampling rates both for recording and for reproducing at home. Higher sampling rates allow wider frequency range and greater bit depths provide extended dynamic range. DTS 96/24 is a multi-channel digital signal format (fs 96 khz/24 bits) introduced by Digital Theater Systems, Inc. to deliver betterthan-cd sound quality into the home. When DTS 96/24 signal is detected, the indicator lights up. You can enjoy its 5.1-channel sound with full-quality. What is Linear PCM? Uncompressed digital audio data used for DVDs, CDs and Video CDs. DVDs support 2 channels with sampling rates of 48/96 khz, at quantization of 16/20/24 bits. On the other hand, CDs and Video CDs are limited to 2 channels with 44.1 khz at 16 bits. When Linear PCM signal is detected, the indicator lights up. What is Dual Mono? Dual Mono can be easily understood when you think of the bilingual broadcast or the MTS (Multichannel Television Sound) format used for TV programs (however, the Dual Mono format is not identical with those analog formats). This format is now adopted in Dolby Digital, DTS, and so on. It allows two independent channels (called main channel and subchannel) to be recorded separately. When Dual Mono signal is detected, the indicator lights up. You can select either channel you want to listen to (see page 21). When using the Surround mode, the sounds come out of the activated speakers which the Surround mode requires. If either the surround speakers or center speaker is set to NONE in the speaker setting, the corresponding channel signals are allocated to and emitted through the front speakers. If both the surround speakers and center speaker are set to NONE in the speaker setting, JVC s original 3D-PHONIC processing (which has been developed to create the surround effect through the front speakers only) is used. The 3D-PHONIC indicator lights up on the display. 3D Headphone Mode 3D H PHONE If you activate Surround when the front speakers are deactivated, 3D Headphone Mode is activated without respect to the type of software played back. 3D H PHONE appears on the display and the DSP and H.PHONE indicators also light up. * 2 DTS and DTS 96/24 are trademarks of Digital Theater Systems, Inc. 26

31 Activating the Surround Modes Available Surround modes vary depending on the incoming signals. For analog sources and digital 2-channel software, you can select one of the following Surround modes. Each time you press SURROUND, Surround modes change as follows: English Activating one of the Surround modes for a source automatically recalls the memorized settings and adjustments (see pages 18 to 24.) PRO LOGIC Activating the Surround Modes Automatically You can enjoy the Surround mode simply by selecting the source (with digital input selected for that source). Auto Surround also works when the input mode changes from analog to digital. To activate Auto Surround, see page 21. PLII MOVIE (Dolby Pro Logic II Movie) PLII MUSIC (Dolby Pro Logic II Music) For Dual Mono software, you can select the channel you listen to. (See page 21.) DUAL MONO Activating the Surround Modes Manually To adjust the speaker output level, see page 24. To cancel the Surround mode Press SURROUND/DSP OFF. 1 Select and play any source (excluding DVD MULTI for RX-6042S). Make sure you have selected the analog or digital input mode correctly. 2 Press SURROUND to activate the Surround mode. For Dolby Digital multi-channel digital software (except 2-channel and Dual Mono software), incoming signals are automatically detected and DOLBY DIGITAL is activated. When playing Dolby Digital EX or DTS-ES software You can enjoy Virtual 6.1-channel playback using Virtual Surround Back. To activate Virtual Surround Back, see page 22. SB VIRTUAL SB For DTS multi-channel digital software (except 2-channel and Dual Mono software), incoming signals are automatically detected and DTS SURROUND is activated. Note: When the Dolby Digital or DTS multi-channel digital signal stops coming in, PLII MOVIE will be activated. 27

Reproducing the Sound Field The sound heard in a concert hall, club, etc. consists of direct sound and indirect sound early reflections and reflections from behind. Direct sounds reach the listener directly without any reflection. On the other hand, indirect sounds are delayed by the distances of the ceiling and walls. These direct sounds and indirect sounds are the most important elements of the acoustic surround effects. DSP modes can create these important elements, and give you a real being there feeling. Early reflections Reflections from behind To use DSP modes, press DSP so that the DSP modes change as follows. LIVE CLUB: Reproduces the spatial feeling of a live music club with a low ceiling. DANCE CLUB: Reproduces the spatial feeling of a rocking dance club. PAVILION: Reproduces the spatial feeling of an exhibition hall with a high ceiling. THEATER 1*: Reproduces the spatial feeling of a large theater where the seating capacity is about 600. THEATER 2*: Reproduces the spatial feeling of a small theater where the seating capacity is about 300. * The built-in Dolby Pro Logic II decoder is activated when playing back 2-channel analog or digital source. The PRO LOGIC indicator lights up. When using the DAP mode, the sounds come out of all the connected and activated speakers. If surround speakers are set to NONE in the speaker setting, JVC s original 3D-PHONIC processing (which has been developed to create the surround effect through the front speakers only) is used. The 3D-PHONIC indicator lights up on the display. 28

33 All Channel Stereo This mode can reproduce a larger stereo sound field using all the connected (and activated) speakers. If the surround speakers are set to NONE, you cannot select ALL CH STEREO. Activating the DSP Modes Activating one of the DSP modes for a source automatically recalls the memorized settings and adjustments (see pages 18 to 24.) English Sound reproduced from normal stereo 1 Select and play any source (excluding DVD MULTI for RX-6042S). 2 Press DSP repeatedly until the DSP mode you want appears on the display. To adjust the effect level (except All Channel Stereo), see page 24. Mono Film In order to reproduce a more acoustic sound field in your listening room while viewing monaural sound video software (analog and 2-channel digital signals), you can use this mode. The surround effect will be added, and the sound localization of actor s words will be improved. This mode cannot be used for multi-channel digital signals. When MONO FILM is used, the sounds come out of all the connected and activated speakers. If surround speakers are set to NONE in the speaker setting, JVC s original 3D-PHONIC processing (which has been developed to create the surround effect through the front speakers only) is used. The 3D-PHONIC indicator lights up on the display. If incoming signals change from 2-channel digital signal to another digital signal type, MONO FILM is canceled and an appropriate Surround mode is activated. To cancel the DSP mode Press SURROUND/DSP OFF. 29

34 English COMPU LK Remote Control System The COMPU LK remote control system allows you to operate JVC s audio components through the remote sensor on the receiver. To use this remote control system, you need to connect JVC s audio components through the COMPU LK (SYNCHRO) jacks using the cables with monaural mini-plugs (not supplied, see below) in addition to the connections using cables with RCA pin plugs (see page 7). Make sure that the AC power cords of these components are unplugged before connection. Plug the AC power cords only after all connections are complete. Automatic Source Selection When you press the play (3) button on a connected component or on its own remote control, the receiver automatically turns on and changes the source to the component. On the other hand, if you select a new source on the receiver or on the remote control, the selected component begins playing immediately. In both cases, the previously selected source continues playing without sound for a few seconds. Cassette deck or CD recorder COMPU LK-4 (SYNCHRO) CD player Automatic Power On/Off (standby) only possible with the COMPU LK-3 and COMPU LK-4 The connected components turn on and off (standby) along with the receiver. When you turn on the receiver, one of the connected components will turn on automatically, depending on which component has been previously selected. When you turn off the receiver, the connected components will turn off (standby). Synchronized Recording Synchronized recording means the cassette deck starts recording as soon as a CD begins playing. Notes: There are four versions of COMPU LK remote control system. This receiver is equipped with the fourth version COMPU LK-4. This version is added systematic operations with the CD recorder to the previous version COMPU LK-3. If your audio component has two COMPU LK jacks, you can use either one. If it has only one COMPU LK jack, connect it so that it is the last item in the series of components. To operate the cassette deck or CD recorder using the COMPU LK remote control system, set the source name correctly if required. (See page 14.) Refer also to the manuals supplied with your audio components. This remote control system allows you to use four functions listed below. Remote Control through the Remote Sensor on the Receiver You can control the connected audio components through the remote sensor on the receiver using this remote control. Aim the remote control directly at the remote sensor on the receiver. For details, see pages 33 and 34. To use synchronized recording, follow these steps: 1 Put a tape in the cassette deck, and a disc in the CD player. 2 Press the record ( ) button and the pause (8) button on the cassette deck at the same time. This puts the cassette deck into recording pause. If you do not press the record ( ) button and pause (8) button at the same time, the synchronized recording feature will not operate. 3 Press the play (3) button on the CD player. The source changes on the receiver, and as soon as play starts, the cassette deck starts recording. When the play ends, the cassette deck enters recording pause, and stops about 4 seconds later. Notes: During synchronized recording, the selected source cannot be changed. If the power of any component is shut off during synchronized recording, the COMPU LK remote control system may not operate properly. In this case, you must start again from the beginning. 30

35 AV COMPU LK Remote Control System The AV COMPU LK remote control system allows you to operate JVC s video components (TV, VCR, and DVD player) through the receiver. English RX-5042S is equipped with conventional AV COMPU LK, while RX-6042S is equipped with the AV COMPU LK-III, which adds a function to operate JVC s video components through the component video jacks. To use this remote control system, connect the video components you want to operate, following the diagrams below and the procedure on the next page. When connecting only the VCR or DVD player to the receiver, connect it directly to the receiver using cables with the monaural mini-plugs. CONNECTIONS 2: Video Cable Connection Connect the VCR and/or DVD player to the TV using one of the following methods: For RX-6042S: When using the AV COMPU LK remote control system, set the component video input for the DVD player and the VCR correctly (see Setting the Component Video Input on page 22); otherwise, the correct input for this receiver will not be selected on the TV. See CONNECTIONS 1 on the previous page. 3 Connect the audio input/output jacks on VCR, DVD player, TV and this receiver using the cables with RCA pin plugs. See pages 8 and 9. 4 Connect the video input/output jacks on VCR, DVD player, TV and this receiver, using the cables with RCA pin plugs (or S-video plug or component video plugs for RX-6042S). See CONNECTIONS 2 on the previous page. 5 Plug the AC power cords of the components and the receiver into the AC outlets. 6 When turning on the TV for the first time after the AV COMPU LK connection, turn the TV volume to the minimum using the TV volume control on the TV. 7 Turn on the connected components first, then turn on this receiver. When turning on the VCR, use the remote control supplied with this receiver. The AV COMPU LK remote control system allows you to use the five basic functions listed below. Remote Control of the TV, DVD Player, and VCR Using This Remote Control See page 34 for details. Aim the remote control directly at the remote sensor on each target component. One-Touch Video Play Simply by inserting a video cassette without its safety tab into the VCR, you can enjoy the video playback without setting other switches manually. The receiver automatically turns on and changes the source to the VCR. The TV automatically turns on and changes the input mode to the appropriate position so that you can view the playback picture. When you insert a video cassette with its safety tab, press the play (3) button on the VCR or on the remote control. So, you can get the same result. One-Touch DVD Play Simply by starting playback on the DVD player, you can enjoy the DVD playback without setting other switches manually. The receiver automatically turns on and changes the source to the DVD player. The TV automatically turns on and changes the input mode to the appropriate position so that you can view the playback picture. Automatic Selection of TV s Input Mode When you select the TV as the source to play on the receiver, the TV automatically changes the input mode to the TV tuner so that you can watch TV. When you select the DVD player or the VCR as the source to play on the receiver, the TV automatically changes the input mode to the appropriate position so that you can view the playback picture. Note: This function does not work when you connect this receiver and the TV with the AV COMPU LK EX jack using a component video cable. In this case, reconnect the TV referring to CASE 1 or CASE 2 on page 31. Automatic Power On/Off (Standby) The TV, VCR, and DVD player turn on and off along with the receiver. When you turn on the receiver; If the previously selected source is the VCR, the TV and VCR will turn on automatically. If the previously selected source is the DVD player, the TV and DVD player will turn on automatically. If the previously selected source is the TV, only the TV will turn on automatically. When you turn off the receiver, the TV, VCR and the DVD player will turn off (standby). Note: If you turn off the receiver while recording on the VCR, the VCR will not turn off, but continue recording. 32

37 Operating JVC s Audio/Video Components You can operate JVC s audio and video components with this receiver s remote control, since control signals for JVC s components are preset in the remote control. English Operating Audio Components IMPORTANT: To operate JVC s audio components using the supplied remote control: You need to connect JVC s audio components through the COMPU LK (SYNCHRO) jacks (see page 30) in addition to the connections using cables with RCA pin plugs (see page 7). Aim the remote control directly at the remote sensor on the receiver. If you use the buttons on the front panel to choose a source, the remote control will not operate that source. To operate a source with the remote control, the source must be selected using source selection buttons on the remote control. To operate the target component using the COMPU LK remote control system, set the source name correctly if required. (See page 14.) Refer also to the manuals supplied with your components. Sound control section (Amplifier) You can always perform the following operations: STANDBY/ON AUDIO: Turn on or off the receiver. VOLUME +/ : Adjust the volume level. MUTG: Turn on or off sound muting. ANALOG/DIGITAL: Switch the analog and digital input alternately. DIMMER: Dim or brighten the display. SLEEP: Set the Sleep Timer. 41 Troubleshooting Use this chart to help you solve daily operational problems. If there is any problem you cannot solve, contact your JVC s service center. English PROBLEM The display does not light up. No sound from speakers. NO SUBWOOFER appears on the display. Continuous hiss or buzzing during FM reception. Noise is heard during FM/AM reception. OVERLOAD starts flashing on the display. DSP NG appears on the display. The STANDBY lamp lights up after turning on the power, and soon the receiver turns off again (into standby mode). Remote control does not work. Remote control does not work as you intend. Only for RX-6042S: No sound effect such as Surround and DSP modes. POSSIBLE CAUSE The power cord is not plugged in. Speaker signal cables are not connected. The SPEAKERS ON/OFF button is not set correctly. An incorrect source is selected. Muting is activated. An incorrect input mode (analog or digital) is selected. The SUBWOOFER ON/OFF button is pressed while SUBWOOFER is set to SUBWOOFER NO. Incoming signal is too weak. The station is too far away. An incorrect antenna is used. Antennas are not connected properly. Ignition noise from automobiles. Speakers are overloaded because of high volume. Speakers are overloaded because of short circuit of speaker terminals. The built-in microcomputer is not functioning correctly. The receiver is overloaded because of a high voltage. There is an obstruction between the remote sensor on the receiver and the remote control. Batteries are weak. An incorrect remote control operation mode is selected. DVD MULTI is selected. SOLUTION Plug the power cord into an AC outlet. Check speaker wiring and reconnect if necessary. (See page 6.) Press SPEAKERS ON/OFF so that the sounds come out of the speakers. (See page 13.) Select the correct source. Press MUTG to cancel the mute. (See page 15.) Select the correct input mode (analog or digital). (See pages 13 and 14.) If subwoofer is connected, set SUBWOOFER YES so that the SUBWOOFER ON/OFF button works. Connect an outdoor FM antenna or contact your dealer. (See page 5.) Select a new station. Check with your dealer to be sure you have the correct antenna. Check connections. (See pages 5 and 6.) Move the antenna farther from automobile traffic. 1. Press STANDBY/ON on the front panel to turn off the receiver. 2. Stop the playback source. 3. Turn on the receiver again, and adjust the volume. Press STANDBY/ON on the front panel to turn off the receiver, then check the speaker wiring. If OVERLOAD does not disappear, unplug the AC power cord, then plug it back again. If speaker wiring is not short-circuited, contact your dealer. Press STANDBY/ON on the front panel to turn off the receiver. After unplugging the AC power cord, contact your dealer. Press STANDBY/ON on the front panel to turn off the receiver. After unplugging the AC power cord, contact your dealer. Remove the obstruction. Replace batteries. (See page 5.) Select the correct remote control operation mode. (See pages 33 to 36.) This is normal for DVD MULTI. 37

47 Primeros pasos Esta sección explica cómo conectar los componentes de audio/vídeo y los altavoces al receptor; y cómo conectar la fuente de alimentación. Antes de la instalación General precauciones Asegúrese de tener las manos secas. Desconecte la alimentación de todos los componentes. Lea los manuales suministrados con los componentes que se van a conectar. Emplazamiento Instale el receptor en un lugar nivelado y protegido de la humedad y el polvo. La temperatura del lugar de instalación del receptor debe estar entre 5 C y 35 C. Asegúrese de proveer una ventilación adecuada alrededor del receptor. Una ventilación defectuosa podrá producir el recalentamiento y causar daños al receptor. Manipulación del receptor No introduzca ningún objeto metálico dentro del receptor. No desarme el receptor ni extraiga los tornillos, las cubiertas ni el gabinete. No exponga el receptor a la lluvia o la humedad. Notas: Las pilas suministradas son para la configuración inicial. Reemplace las pilas para un uso continuo. Para RX-6042S: Después de sustituir las pilas, vuelva a ajustar los códigos de fabricantes (consulte las páginas 35 y 36). PRECAUCIÓN: Observe estas precauciones para evitar fugas de ácido o el estallido de las pilas: Coloque las pilas en el control remoto haciendo coincidir sus polaridades: (+) con (+) y ( ) con ( ). Conecte el jack de entrada de un subwoofer motriz al panel trasero, utilizando para ello un cable con clavijas monopolares RCA (no suministrado). Conexión de los componentes de audio/ vídeo Cuando se conectan componentes individuales, refiérase también a los manuales entregados con los mismos. Conecte la clavija blanca al jack izquierdo de audio, y la clavija roja al jack derecho de audio. Español SUBWOOFER OUT Subwoofer motriz Colocación de los altavoces Altavoces delanteros (L/R) y altavoz central (C) Coloque estos altavoces a la misma altura con respecto al piso, en o cerca de las orejas del oyente. Diríjalos hacia la parte delantera del área de visión. 52 Primeros pasos Español Conexiones digitales Conectando el receptor y el componente fuente a través de los terminales digitales, se logrará mejorar considerablemente la calidad del sonido reproducido. Asimismo, podrá disfrutar de la reproducción multicanal y de algunas otras funciones convenientes. IMPORTANTE: Cuando conecte un componente de vídeo utilizando los terminales digitales, también deberá conectarlo a los jacks de vídeo en la parte trasera. Sin conectar a los jacks de vídeo, no podrá ver la imagen de reproducción. Después de conectar los componentes de arriba utilizando los terminales DIGITAL, de requerirse, ajuste correctamente lo siguiente. Establezca correctamente el ajuste del terminal de entrada digital (DIGITAL ). Para los detalles, consulte Configurar los terminales de entrada digitales en la página 22. Seleccione correctamente el modo de entrada digital. Para los detalles, consulte Selección del modo de entrada analógica o digital en la página 13. Terminales de entrada digital Podrá conectar cualquier componente digital que tenga un terminal de salida digital coaxial u óptico. Para operar un reproductor DVD o un televisor utilizando el sistema de control remoto AV COMPU LK (consulte la página 31), conéctelo también de la manera descrita en Conexiones analógicas (consulte las páginas 8 y 9). Ajuste del selector de tensión Antes de las conexiones, realice lo siguiente siempre que sea necesario. Utilizando un destornillador, seleccione la tensión correcta con el conmutador VOLTAGE SELECTOR de la parte trasera. Compruebe que la marca de tensión se encuentre ajustada a la tensión correspondiente al área de utilización de esta unidad. Las operaciones que siguen se explicarán utilizando los botones del panel frontal. También se podrán utilizar los botones del control remoto para las mismas funciones, si se encuentran provistos de nombres/marcas iguales o similares. Procedimiento operativo diario Selección de la fuente de reproducción Si ha conectado los componentes de la fuente digital utilizando los terminales digitales, cambie previamente el modo de entrada para estos componentes al modo de entrada digital (consulte la página 13). Cuando utilice los auriculares, sólo podrá escuchar el sonido de los canales delanteros (izquierdo y derecho). Los modos surround y DSP (consulte las páginas 25 y 28) no pueden aplicarse a DVD MULTI. VOLUME Para RX-5042S DVD VCR TV SOUND CD TAPE/CDR FM/AM Aparece el nivel de volumen actual. Para apagarlo (ponerlo en el modo standby), pulse de nuevo STANDBY/ON (o STANDBY/ON AUDIO en el control remoto). La lámpara STANDBY se enciende. En el panel frontal TAPE/CDR CD DVD FM/AM TV SOUND VCR SOURCE NAME Nota: Se consume una pequeña cantidad de energía en el modo standby. Para desconectar completamente la alimentación, desenchufe el cable de alimentación de CA. Nota: En el control remoto Cuando conecta una grabadora de CD a los jacks TAPE/CDR, cambie los nombres de las fuentes mostradas en la pantalla. Para los detalles, consulte la página

54 Operaciones básicas Español Indicadores de los altavoces y de las señales en la pantalla La verificación de los siguientes indicadores le permitirá confirmar fácilmente cuáles son los altavoces que están activados y cuáles son las señales que se introducen a este receptor procedentes de la fuente. Indicadores de los altavoces Indicadores de las señales Selección de fuentes diferentes para imagen y sonido Mientras mira las imágenes de una fuente de vídeo, podrá escuchar el sonido de una fuente de audio. Una vez que seleccione una fuente de vídeo, las imágenes de la fuente seleccionada son enviadas al televisor hasta que se seleccione otra fuente de vídeo. Pulse uno de los botones de selección de la fuente de audio mientras se está viendo la imagen de un componente de vídeo, como por ejemplo, videograbadora o reproductor DVD, etc. Para RX-6042S TAPE/CDR CD DVD DVD MULTI SB SB CD TAPE/CDR FM AM SOURCE NAME FM/AM TV SOUND VCR Los indicadores de los altavoces se encienden de acuerdo con la configuración de los altavoces (para los detalles, consulte Configurar de los altavoces en la página 20). El marco de L, C, R, LS y RS se enciende al ajustar los altavoces correspondientes a LARGE o SMALL. El sonido sale a través de los altavoces cuyos indicadores se encuentran encendidos en la pantalla. El indicador se enciende cuando se activa el subwoofer (consulte las páginas 13 y 20). Los indicadores de las señales se encienden para mostrar cuáles son las señales entrantes. L: Cuando se selecciona la entrada digital: Se enciende cuando se introduce la señal del canal izquierdo. Cuando se selecciona la entrada analógica: Se enciende siempre. R: Cuando se selecciona la entrada digital: Se enciende cuando se introduce la señal del canal derecho. Cuando se selecciona la entrada analógica: Se enciende siempre. C: Se enciende cuando se introduce la señal del canal central. LFE: Se enciende cuando se introduce la señal del canal LFE. LS: Se enciende cuando se introduce la señal del canal surround izquierdo. RS: Se enciende cuando se introduce la señal del canal surround derecho. S: Se enciende cuando se introduce la señal del canal surround monoaural. SB: Se enciende cuando se introduce la señal del canal surround trasero. Nota: Para RX-6042S: Cuando se selecciona DVD MULTI como fuente, se encienden L, C, R, LFE, LS y RS. Cómo interpretar la iluminación del indicador de altavoz y de señal Para RX-5042S Nota: CD En el panel frontal TAPE/CDR SOURCE NAME En el panel frontal Para RX-6042S: Cuando desee ver la imagen a través de los jacks COMPONENT VIDEO, no se podrá utilizar esta función. Ajuste del volumen En el panel frontal: FM/AM Para aumentar el volumen, gire MASTER VOLUME en el sentido de las agujas del reloj. Para disminuir el volumen, gírelo en el sentido contrario a las agujas del reloj. En el control remoto: Para aumentar el volumen, pulse VOLUME +. Para disminuir el volumen, pulse VOLUME. En el control remoto TAPE/CDR CD DVD FM/AM TV SOUND VCR En el control remoto Ej.: No sale sonido del altavoz central y de los altavoces surround aunque las señales del canal central y de los canales surround entren a este receptor. PRECAUCIÓN: Siempre ajuste el volumen al mínimo antes de activar cualquier fuente. Si el volumen está ajustado al nivel máximo, el repentino estallido de energía acústica podría dañar permanentemente su oído y/o arruinar sus altavoces. Nota: El nivel de volumen puede ajustarse dentro del margen de 0 (mínimo) a 50 (máximo). 12

55 Escuchando con los auriculares: No sólo podrá escuchar software estéreo sino también software multicanal a través de los auriculares. (Los Remote NOT sonidos se mezclan con los canales delanteros mientras se reproduce software multicanal). 1 Pulse SPEAKERS ON/OFF para desactivar los altavoces. Aparece HEADPHONE por un breve intervalo, y el indicador H.PHONE se enciende en la pantalla. Si se ha activado el modo Surround o DSP, aparece 3D H PHONE durante unos momentos (y el indicador DSP también se enciende en la pantalla) modo 3D Headphone (3D H PHONE). Para los detalles, consulte las páginas 26 y Conecte los auriculares al jack PHONES en el panel frontal. Si los altavoces no están desactivados, no se escuchará sonido a través de los auriculares. Después de utilizar los auriculares, desconéctelos y luego pulse de nuevo SPEAKERS ON/OFF para activar los altavoces. PRECAUCIÓN: Asegúrese de bajar el volumen... Antes de conectar o de ponerse los auriculares, ya que un volumen alto podrá dañar los auriculares y su oído. Antes de volver a activar los altavoces, para evitar que se genere un volumen alto a través de los mismos. Selección del modo de entrada analógica o digital Cuando haya conectado los componentes de la fuente digital utilizando tanto los terminales analógico como digital (consulte las páginas 7 a 10), podrá seleccionar el modo de entrada ya sea digital o analógico para estos componentes. Antes de empezar, recuerde que... El ajuste del terminal de entrada digital debe realizarse correctamente según las fuentes para las cuales se desea seleccionar el modo de entrada digital (consulte Configurar los terminales de entrada digitales en la página 22). 1 Pulse uno de los botones de selección de fuente (DVD, TV SOUND, CD, TAPE/CDR*) para la cual se desea cambiar el modo de entrada. * Si se selecciona TAPE como fuente, no se podrá disponer del modo de entrada digital. Para cambiar el nombre de la fuente, consulte Cambio del nombre de la fuente en la página 14. Español Activación y desactivación del sonido del subwoofer Podrá cancelar el sonido del subwoofer incluso cuando tenga conectado un subwoofer y haya ajustado SUBWOOFER a SUBWOOFER YES (consulte la página 20). Remote NOT 2 Pulse PUT DIGITAL para seleccionar DIGITAL AUTO. El indicador DIGITAL AUTO se enciende en la pantalla. Cuando se utiliza el control remoto, pulse ANALOG/DIGITAL. Cada vez que pulsa el botón, los modos de entrada analógica (ANALOG) y digital (DIGITAL AUTO) cambian alternativamente. Pulse SUBWOOFER OUT ON/OFF para cancelar la salida del subwoofer. Cada vez que pulsa el botón, la salida del subwoofer se desactiva ( SUBWOOFER OFF ) y activa ( SUBWOOFER ON ) alternativamente. Al cancelar la salida del subwoofer, el indicador se apaga. Los sonidos bajos (y las señales LFE) se emitirán a través de los altavoces delanteros. Notas: Cuando se activa la salida del subwoofer, también podrá ajustar el nivel de salida del subwoofer. Para los detalles, consulte la página 24. No podrá desactivar la salida del subwoofer cuando ajusta los altavoces delanteros a SMALL en la configuración de los altavoces (consulte la página 20) o cuando se utiliza la configuración rápida de los altavoces (consulte la página 18). No podrá activar la salida del subwoofer cuando ajusta SUBWOOFER a SUBWOOFER NO (consulte la página 20). Al cambiar la configuración SUBWOOFER de SUBWOOFER NO a SUBWOOFER YES (consulte la página 20), la salida del subwoofer se activa automáticamente. Nota: Cuando se selecciona DIGITAL AUTO, los indicadores siguientes indican el formato de señal digital de la señal entrante. : Se enciende cuando se introducen señales de PCM Lineal. : Se enciende cuando se introducen señales Dolby Digital. : Se enciende cuando se introducen señales DTS convencionales. : Se enciende cuando se introducen señales DTS 96/24. Ningún indicador se enciende cuando el receptor no consigue reconocer el formato de señal digital de las señales entrantes. 56 Operaciones básicas Español Cuando se reproduce un software codificado con Dolby Digital o DTS podrían producirse los siguientes síntomas: No se genera sonido al comienzo de la reproducción. Se escuchan ruidos durante la búsqueda o la omisión de capítulos o pistas. En este caso, pulse repetidamente PUT DIGITAL para seleccionar DOLBY DIGITAL o DTS SURROUND. Remote NOT Cada vez que pulsa PUT DIGITAL, el modo de entrada cambia de la siguiente manera: Atenuación de la señal de entrada Remote NOT Cuando el nivel de entrada de la fuente de reproducción es muy alto, se distorsionarán los sonidos. En tal caso, deberá atenuar el nivel de la señal de entrada para evitar la distorsión del sonido. El ajuste, una vez realizado, será memorizado para cada fuente analógica. DIGITAL AUTO DOLBY DIGITAL DTS SURROUND Cuando selecciona DOLBY DIGITAL o DTS SURROUND, el indicador DIGITAL AUTO se apaga, y el correspondiente indicador del formato de señal digital se enciende en la pantalla. Si la señal entrante no corresponde con el formato de señal digital seleccionado, parpadeará el indicador del formato de señal seleccionado. Nota: Cuando se desactiva la alimentación o se selecciona otra fuente, las configuraciones DOLBY DIGITAL y DTS SURROUND se cancelan y el modo de entrada digital se reposiciona automáticamente a DIGITAL AUTO. Pulse y mantenga pulsado PUT ATT (PUT ANALOG) de manera que el indicador PUT ATT se encienda en la pantalla. Cada vez que pulsa y mantenga pulsado el botón, el modo de atenuador de entrada se activa ( PUT ATT ON ) y desactiva ( PUT NORMAL ). Nota: Para RX-6042S: Esta función no se activará cuando se selecciona DVD MULTI. Cambio del nombre de la fuente Remote NOT Si ha conectado una grabadora de CD a los jacks TAPE/CDR en el panel trasero, cambie el nombre de la fuente que se va a visualizar en la pantalla. Para seleccionar el modo de entrada analógica Pulse PUT ANALOG (o pulse repetidamente ANALOG/DIGITAL en el control remoto hasta que aparezca ANALOG en la pantalla). El indicador ANALOG se enciende. Cambio del brillo de la pantalla Si lo desea, podrá oscurecer la pantalla. Cuando cambie el nombre de la fuente de TAPE a CDR : 1 Pulse TAPE/CDR (SOURCE NAME). Compruebe que TAPE aparezca en la pantalla. 2 Pulse y mantenga pulsado SOURCE NAME (TAPE/CDR) hasta que ASSIGN CDR aparezca en la pantalla. Pulse DIMMER. Cada vez que pulsa el botón, la pantalla se oscurece y aclara alternativamente. Para volver a cambiar el nombre de la fuente a TAPE, repita el procedimiento de arriba. Nota: Los componentes conectados se podrán utilizar incluso sin cambiar el nombre de la fuente. Sin embargo, pueden presentarse algunos inconvenientes. Aparecerá TAPE en la pantalla al seleccionar la grabadora de CD. No podrá utilizar la entrada digital (consulte la página 13) para la grabadora de CD. 14

57 Las siguientes operaciones básicas se pueden realizar únicamente utilizando el control remoto. Uso del Sleep Timer Usando el Sleep Timer (temporizador de dormir), podrá quedarse dormido mientras escucha música. Cuando llegue el tiempo de apagado automático, el receptor se apaga automáticamente. REW REC PAUSE TA/NEWS/FO FF SLEEP CD-DISC Uso del Sleep Timer Pulse SLEEP repetidas veces. El indicador SLEEP se enciende en la pantalla, y el tiempo de apagado cambia a intervalos de 10 minutos: OFF (Cancelado) Español BASSBOOST MUTG Silenciamiento del sonido Refuerzo de los graves (Sólo para RX-6042S) Para verificar o cambiar el tiempo que queda para el apagado automático: Pulse SLEEP una vez. Se indica el tiempo en minutos que queda para el apagado automático. Para cambiar el tiempo de apagado automático, pulse SLEEP repetidas veces. Para cancelar el Sleep Timer: Pulse SLEEP repetidas veces hasta que aparezca SLEEP OFF en la pantalla. El indicador SLEEP se apaga. Desconectando la alimentaación también se cancela el Sleep Timer. Refuerzo de los graves Esta función es sólo para RX-6042S. Es posible reforzar el nivel de los graves. El ajuste, una vez realizado, se memoriza para cada fuente. Pulse BASSBOOST para reforzar el nivel de los graves. El indicador BASS BOOST se enciende en la pantalla. Cada vez que pulsa el botón, el refuerzo de los graves se activa ( BASSBOOST ON ) y desactiva ( BASSBOOST OFF ) alternativamente. Nota: Esta función afecta solamente a los sonidos de los altavoces delanteros. Silenciamiento del sonido Pulse MUTG para silenciar el sonido que sale a través de todos los altavoces y de los auriculares conectados. Aparece MUTG en la pantalla y el volumen se apaga (el indicador VOLUME y la indicación de su nivel se apagan). Para restablecer el sonido, pulse MUTG otra vez. El sonido también se restaura girando MASTER VOLUME en el panel frontal o pulsando VOLUME +/ en el control remoto. Grabación de una fuente Cualquier fuente reproducida a través del receptor puede ser grabada simultáneamente en una platina de cassette (o grabadora de CD) conectada a los jacks TAPE/CDR y en el vídeograbadora conectado a los jacks VCR. Mientras está grabando, podrá escuchar la fuente de sonido seleccionada en cualquier nivel de sonido deseado, sin afectar los niveles de sonido de la grabación. Nota: El nivel de volumen de salida, el modo medianoche (consulte la página 21), el refuerzo de los graves (sólo para RX-6042S), los patrones de ecualización (consulte la página 24), los modos Surround y los modos DSP (consulte las páginas 25 a 29) no afectan la grabación. Memoria automática de los ajustes básicos Este receptor memoriza los ajustes de sonido para cada fuente cuando usted desconecta la alimentación, cuando cambia la fuente, cuando cambia los modos de entrada analógica/digital, y cuando asigna el nombre de la fuente (consulte la página 14). Cuando usted cambie de fuente, los ajustes memorizados para la fuente recién seleccionada serán llamados automáticamente. Los siguientes ajustes se pueden memorizar para cada fuente: Modo de entrada analógica/digital (consulte la página 13) Modo del atenuador de entrada (consulte la página 14) Patrón de ecualización (consulte la página 24) Niveles de salida de los altavoces (consulte la página 24) Selección del modo Surround y DSP (consulte las páginas 25 y 28) Ajuste del refuerzo de graves (sólo para RX-6042S) Notas: Si la fuente es FM o AM, podrá asignar un ajuste diferente para cada banda. El ajuste de sonido asignado para un componente digital es válido para ambos modos de entrada, analógica y digital. 15

58 Recepción de radiodifusiones Es posible efectuar la búsqueda a través de todas las emisoras o usar la función de preajuste para sintonizar inmediatamente una determinada emisora. Español Ajuste del intervalo de frecuencias del sintonizador de AM Remote NOT Notas: Cuando se sintoniza una emisora con una señal suficientemente fuerte, se enciende el indicador TUNED en la pantalla. Cuando se recibe un programa FM estéreo, también se enciende el indicador STEREO. Cuando mantiene el botón pulsado (y lo suelta) en el paso 2, la frecuencia continuará cambiando hasta que se sintonice una emisora. Uso de la sintonización preajustada En algunos países, el espaciamiento de frecuencias de las emisoras AM es de 9 khz, mientras que en otros es de 10 khz. Seleccione correctamente el ajuste de espaciamiento para poder recibir las emisiones de AM de su área. El intervalo de frecuencias de 9 khz es el ajuste inicial. Sólo se podrá cambiar el espaciamiento entre frecuencias del sintonizador de AM cuando la unidad está en el modo standby (en espera). Nota: Cuando usted cambia el espaciamiento entre frecuencias del sintonizador de AM, se borrarán las emisoras preajustadas de la memoria. En este caso, vuelva a almacenar las emisoras. Sintonización manual de las emisoras Remote NOT Una vez que asigne una emisora a un número de canal, la misma podrá sintonizarse rápidamente. Es posible preajustar un máximo de emisoras 30 FM y 15 AM. Para almacenar las emisoras preajustadas Antes de empezar, recuerde que... Hay un límite de tiempo para realizar los siguientes pasos. Si se cancela el ajuste antes de finalizar, comience otra vez desde el paso 2. 1 Sintonice la emisora que desea preajustar (consulte Sintonización manual de las emisoras ). Si desea almacenar el modo de recepción en FM para esta emisora, seleccione el modo de recepción en FM deseado. Consulte Selección del modo de recepción en FM en la página Pulse MEMORY. Remote NOT TUNED STEREO AUTO MUTG VOLUME 1 Seleccione la banda (FM o AM). Para RX-6042S: Pulse FM o AM. Para RX-5042S: Pulse FM/AM. Cada vez que pulsa el botón, la banda cambia alternativamente entre FM y AM. La posición del número de canal empieza a parpadear en la pantalla durante unos 5 segundos. 3 Pulse FM/AM PRESET 5 o para seleccionar un número de canal mientras está parpadeando la posición del número de canal. TUNED STEREO AUTO MUTG VOLUME 16 TUNED STEREO AUTO MUTG VOLUME Se sintoniza la emisora recibida en último término de la banda seleccionada. 2 Pulse FM/AM TUNG 5 o repetidamente hasta encontrar la frecuencia deseada. Si pulsa FM/AM TUNG 5 la frecuencia aumenta. Si pulsa FM/AM TUNG la frecuencia disminuye. 4 Pulse MEMORY otra vez mientras el número del canal seleccionado esta parpadeando en la pantalla. El número de canal seleccionado deja de parpadear. La emisora queda asignada al número de canal seleccionado. 5 Repita los pasos 1 a 4 hasta que termine de almacenar todas las emisoras deseadas. Para borrar una emisora preajustada Almacenando una emisora nueva en un número usado hará que se borre la almacenada previamente.

59 Para sintonizar una emisora preajustada En el panel frontal: Selección del modo de recepción en FM 1 Seleccione la banda (FM o AM). Para RX-6042S: Pulse FM o AM. Para RX-5042S: Pulse FM/AM. Cada vez que pulsa el botón, la banda cambia alternativamente entre FM y AM. 2 Pulse FM/AM PRESET 5 o hasta encontrar el canal deseado. Si pulsa FM/AM PRESET 5 los números de canales aumentan. Si pulsa FM/AM PRESET los números de canales disminuyen. Cuando la transmisión en FM estéreo sea difícil de recibir o hayan ruidos, podrá cambiar el modo de recepción en FM mientras recibe una radiodifusión en FM. Es posible almacenar el modo de recepción en FM para cada emisora preajustada (consulte la página 16). Mientras escucha una emisora de FM, pulse FM MODE. Cada vez que pulsa el botón, el modo de recepción en FM cambia alternativamente entre AUTO MUTG y MODE MONO. TUNED STEREO AUTO MUTG Español En el control remoto: AUTO MUTG MODE MONO REC PAUSE FM/AM REW TA/NEWS/FO 1 Pulse FM/AM para seleccionar la banda. Se sintoniza la emisora recibida en último término de la banda seleccionada. Cuando se transmita un programa en estéreo, escuchará un sonido estereofónico; y si se transmite en monoaural, se escuchará un sonido monoaural. Este modo también es conveniente para eliminar el ruido estático entre las emisoras. El indicador AUTO MUTG se enciende en la pantalla. (Ajuste inicial) MODE MONO: Selecciónelo para mejorar la recepción (pero se perderá el efecto estereofónico). En este modo, escuchará ruido mientras sintoniza las emisoras. Se apaga el indicador AUTO MUTG en la pantalla. (El indicador STEREO también se apaga). El botón FM MODE del control remoto no funcionará después de accionar con el mismo cualquier fuente que no sea el sintonizador. En este caso, pulse FM/AM en el control remoto, y a continuación pulse FM MODE. Nota: Cuando utilice las 10 teclas del control remoto, asegúrese de que estén activadas para el sintonizador, no para el CD y otros. (Consulte la página 33). 17

Español Configuración rápida de los altavoces Remote NOT La configuración rápida de los altavoces le ayuda a registrar de manera simple y rápida el tamaño y la distancia de los altavoces con respecta la sala de audición, de manera que pueda obtener el mejor efecto Surround posible. También podrá registrar manualmente la información sobre cada altavoz. Para los detalles, consulte la página Pulse MULTI JOG (PUSH SET). Aparece COMPLETE en la pantalla, y luego vuelve a la indicación de fuente. Notas: Este procedimiento no será completado si lo suspende en medio del proceso de configuración. Una vez que realice la configuración rápida de los altavoces, los niveles de salida de los altavoces también se ajustan automáticamente a los valores apropiados (comunes a todas las fuentes). Si desea ajustar los niveles de salida de los altavoces separadamente para cada fuente, consulte Ajuste de los niveles de salida de los altavoces en la página 24. Antes de empezar, recuerde que... 62 Ajustes básicos Español Configurar de los altavoces Para obtener el mejor sonido envolvente posible de los modos Surround y DSP, deberá registrar la información sobre la disposición de los altavoces después de haber terminado de realizar todas las conexiones. Si ha utilizado configuración rápida de los altavoces en la página 18, este ajuste no será necesario. Ajuste del subwoofer SUBWOOFER Seleccione si se ha conectado o no un subwoofer. SUBWOOFER YES: Selecciónelo cuando haya un subwoofer conectado. SUBWOOFER NO: Selecciónelo cuando no haya un subwoofer conectado. Nota: Si usted ha seleccionado SUBWOOFER NO para el subwoofer, no se podrá usar SUBWOOFER OUT ON/OFF en el panel frontal. Tamaños de los altavoces FRNT SPEAKERS, CNTR SPEAKER, SURR SPEAKERS Seleccione el tamaño para cada uno de los altavoces conectados. Distancia de los altavoces FRONT L DIST, FRONT R DIST, CENTER DIST, SURR L DIST, SURR R DIST Ajuste la distancia desde el punto de audición dentro del margen de 0,3 m (1 pies) a 9,0 m (30 pies), en intervalos de 0,3 m (1 pies). La unidad se expide de fábrica con la distancia para cada altavoz ajustada a 3.0m (10FT). Notas: No podrá ajustar la distancia para el altavoz ajustado a NONE. Para RX-6042S: Esta configuración no es válida para el modo de reproducción DVD MULTI. Si el tamaño de la unidad de altavoz de cono incorporado a su altavoz es de más de 12 cm, seleccione LARGE, y si es de menos de 12 cm, seleccione SMALL. Si ha seleccionado SUBWOOFER NO para el ajuste del subwoofer, sólo podrá seleccionar LARGE para los altavoces delanteros. Si ha seleccionado SMALL para los altavoces delanteros, no podrá seleccionar LARGE para los altavoces central y surround. Configurar la distancia de los altavoces La distancia desde su punto de audición a los altavoces es otro factor importante que se debe tener en cuenta para obtener el mejor sonido surround posible de los modos Surround y DSP. Usted deberá ajustar la distancia entre su punto de audición y los altavoces. Refiriéndose a la configuración de la distancia de los altavoces, esta unidad ajusta automáticamente el tiempo de retardo del sonido a través de cada altavoz de manera que el sonido emitido a través de todos los altavoces lleguen a sus oídos al mismo tiempo. Si ha utilizado configuración rápida de los altavoces en la página 18, este ajuste no será necesario. Unidad de medición DISTANCE UNIT Seleccione la unidad de medición que desea usar. UNIT METER: Selecciónelo para ajustar la distancia en metros. UNIT FEET: Selecciónelo para ajustar la distancia en pies. Ej.: En el caso de arriba, ajuste la distancia de los altavoces de la manera siguiente: Altavoces delanteros: 3.0m (10FT) Altavoz central: 3.0m (10FT) Altavoces surround: 2.7m (9FT) Configurar los sonidos graves Podrá ajustar con precisión el subwoofer y los sonidos graves, según sus preferencias. Salida del subwoofer SUBWOOFER OUT Podrá seleccionar el tipo de señal que se puede transmitir a través del subwoofer. En otras palabras, permite determinar si los elementos de graves de los canales de los altavoces delanteros se van a transmitir o no a través del subwoofer, independientemente del ajuste del tamaño de los altavoces delanteros (ya sea SMALL o LARGE ). Seleccione una de las siguientes opciones: Nota: LS RS SWFR LFE: Selecciónelo para emitir sólo las señales LFE (mientras sereproduce un software Dolby Digital y DTS) o los elementos graves de los altavoces delanteros pequeños SMALL (mientras se reproduce cualquier fuente distinta de la de arriba). SWFR LFE+MA: Selecciónelo para emitir siempre los elementos graves de los canales de los altavoces delanteros (MA). Mientras se reproduce un software Dolby Digital y DTS, se emiten tanto los elementos graves como las señales LFE. Si se ha seleccionado SUBWOOFER NO para el subwoofer, esta función no estará disponible.

63 Frecuencia de cruce CROSSOVER Podrá seleccionar la frecuencia de cruce para los altavoces pequeños utilizados. Las señales que se encuentran por debajo del nivel de frecuencia preajustada serán enviadas y reproducidas por el subwoofer (o mediante los altavoces LARGE cuando SUBWOOFER se encuentra ajustado a SUBWOOFER NO ). Seleccione uno de los niveles de la frecuencia de corte, de acuerdo con el tamaño del altavoz pequeño conectado. CROSS 80HZ: Selecciónelo cuando la unidad de altavoz de cono incorporado al sistema de altavoces sea de unos 12 cm. CROSS 100HZ: Selecciónelo cuando la unidad de altavoz de cono incorporado al sistema de altavoces sea de unos 10 cm. CROSS 120HZ: Selecciónelo cuando la unidad de altavoz de cono incorporado al sistema de altavoces sea de unos 8 cm. CROSS 150HZ: Selecciónelo cuando la unidad de altavoz de cono incorporado al sistema de altavoces sea de unos 6 cm. CROSS 200HZ: Selecciónelo cuando la unidad de altavoz de cono incorporado al sistema de altavoces sea de unos 5 cm. Notas: Si ha seleccionado LARGE para todos los altavoces activados (consulte la página 20), esta función se fija a CROSS OFF. La frecuencia de cruce no se activará para HEADPHONE, 3D H PHONE (y DVD MULTI para RX-6042S). Atenuador de efecto de baja frecuencia LFE ATTENUATE Si se distorsionan los sonidos graves mientras se reproduce una fuente utilizando Dolby Digital o DTS, ajuste el nivel LFE para eliminar la distorsión. Esta función sólo tiene efecto cuando se introducen señales LFE. Seleccione entre lo siguiente: Selección del canal principal o secundario Podrá seleccionar el sonido de reproducción (canal) deseado mientras se reproduce el software digital grabado (o difundido) en el modo Dual Mono (consulte la página 26), que incluye dos canales monofónicos separadamente. Dual Mono DUAL MONO Notas: Seleccione los sonidos de reproducción (canal). MONO MA: Selecciónelo para reproducir el canal principal (Ch 1).* El indicador de señal L se enciende mientras se está reproduciendo este canal. MONO SUB: MONO ALL: Selecciónelo para reproducir el canal secundario (Ch 2).* El indicador de señal R se enciende mientras se está reproduciendo este canal. Selecciónelo para reproducir ambos canales (Ch 1/Ch 2).* Los indicadores de señal L y R se encienden mientras se están reproduciendo estos canales. El formato Dual Mono no es idéntico a la difusión bilingüe o al formato MTS (Sonido de Televisión Multicanal) utilizado para los programas de televisión. Seleccione entre lo siguiente: Nota: MIDNIGHT 1: Selecciónelo cuando se desea reducir ligeramente el rango dinámico. MIDNIGHT 2: Selecciónelo cuando se desea aplicar totalmente el efecto de compresión (conveniente a medianoche). MIDNIGHT OFF: Selecciónelo para disfrutar de una reproducción con su rango dinámico total (no se aplica ningún efecto). Para RX-6042S: El modo medianoche no se activará para DVD MULTI. Configuración para operaciones Surround fáciles y efectivas Surround automático AUTO SURROUND Auto Surround funciona sólo cuando la unidad detecta la señal digital entrante. En otras palabras, funciona... Cuando usted selecciona la fuente digital (la fuente con entrada digital seleccionada para la misma), y Cuando usted cambia el modo de entrada de analógico a digital. Seleccione AUTO SURR ON para activar Auto Surround. AUTO SURR ON: Cuando se detecta la señal multicanal, se activará el modo Surround apropiado. Cuando se detecta Dolby Digital de 2 canales con señales surround, se seleccionará PLII MOVIE. Cuando se detecta Dolby Digital 2 canales sin señales surround, se seleccionará SURROUND OFF. Cuando se detecta la señal PCM Lineal, no se realizará ningún cambio. AUTO SURR OFF: Selecciónelo para desactivar Auto Surround. Continua en la página siguiente 21

Virtual Surround Back VIRTUAL SBACK Podrá disfrutar del canal surround trasero mientras se reproduce el software Dolby Digital EX o el software DTS-ES sin los altavoces surround traseros. Esta función crea un extraordinario efecto surround desde atrás, como si estuvieran conectados los altavoces surround traseros. Seleccione VRTL SB ON para activar Virtual Surround Back. VRTL SB ON: Mientras reproduce el software Dolby Digital EX o el sofware DTS-EX, el indicator VIRTUAL SB (Surround Trasero) se enciende. Para aplicar el procesamiento, desactive Virtual Surround Back. Dependiendo del software, puede suceder que Virtual Surround Back no pueda aplicarse. Configurar los terminales de entrada digitales Cuando utilice los terminales de entrada digitales, deberá registrar cuáles son los componentes conectados a los terminales de entrada digitales. Terminal de entrada digital DIGITAL Ajuste los componentes conectados a los terminales digitales. Conforme gira MULTI JOG, los terminales de entrada digital se ajustan para utilizarse con los siguientes componentes digitales: Ajuste de la entrada de vídeo componente Este ajuste es sólo para el RX-6042S. Cuando se utilizan las entradas de vídeo componente para conectar el reproductor DVD y/o la videograbadora, registre el tipo de jacks de entrada. Si no se seleccionan los jacks de entrada de vídeo apropiados, el sistema de control remoto AV COMPU LK no podrá operar correctamente. (Consulte la página 31). Para el reproductor DVD VIDEO DVD Seleccione una de las siguientes opciones: DVD COMPONENT: Selecciónelo cuando se conecta el reproductor DVD a los jacks de entrada de vídeo componente. DVD S/C: Selecciónelo cuando se conecta el reproductor DVD a los jacks de entrada de vídeo compuesto o S-vídeo. 66 Ajuste del sonido Español Ajuste de los patrones de ecualización Podrá ajustar la ecualización según le agrade. Una vez que se efectúe el ajuste, el mismo se memoriza para cada fuente. Ajuste de ecualización DEQ 63HZ, DEQ250HZ, DEQ 1KHZ, DEQ 4KHZ, DEQ16KHZ Podrá ajustar cinco frecuencias (63 Hz, 250 Hz, 1 khz, 4 khz, 16 khz) dentro del margen de 8 db a +8 db en pasos de 2 db. Cuando se efectúa el ajuste, el indicador DIGITAL EQ se enciende en la pantalla. Para hacer plano el patrón de ecualización, ajuste todas las bandas de frecuencia a 0 (0 db) en el paso 4 de Procedimiento básico (en la página 23). El indicador DIGITAL EQ desaparece de la pantalla. Nota: Los patrones de ecualización afectan sólo al sonido de los altavoces delanteros. Ajuste de los niveles de salida de los altavoces Puede ajustar el nivel de salida de los altavoces. Una vez que se efectúe el ajuste, el mismo se memoriza para cada fuente. Altavoces ajustables SUBWFR LEVEL, FRONT L LEVEL, FRONT R LEVEL, CENTER LEVEL, SURR L LEVEL, SURR R LEVEL Podrá ajustar los niveles de salida de los altavoces conectados dentro del margen de 10 db a +10 db. Notas: Si se ha desactivado el altavoz (consulte la página 20), no se podrá ajustar el nivel de salida del altavoz. Para RX-6042S: El nivel de salida de todos los altavoces (excepto el subwoofer) siempre se podrá ajustar para DVD MULTI. Sólo para RX-6042S: Para los modos Surround y DSP (cuando está conectado el altavoz central) CENTER TONE: Se ajusta el tono central. Conforme aumenta el número, el diálogo se vuelve más nítido, y las voces humanas cambian de suaves a claras. (Margen ajustable: 1 a 5. Normalmente seleccione 3 ). Nota: Esta configuración es común para todos los modos Surround, y se memoriza separadamente para los modos DSP. También podrá utilizar el control remoto para ajustar el nivel de salida del altavoz utilizando el tono de prueba. También podrá ajustar el nivel de efecto para los modos DAP y Mono Film. Para ajustar el nivel de salida del REW FF altavoz: REC PAUSE CD-DISC 1 Pulse SOUND. Las 10 teclas se activan para los ajustes de sonido. 2 Pulse TEST para ver si es posible escuchar el sonido a través de todos los altavoces a un mismo nivel. El tono de prueba (TEST TONE) sale de los altavoces en el orden siguiente. El tono de prueba no sale de los altavoces cuya configuración ha sido ajustada a NONE (o SUBWOOFER NO para el subwoofer). Conforme aumenta el número, el efecto se vuelve más potente. (Margen ajustable: 1 a 5. Normalmente seleccione 3 ). Sólo para Pro Logic II Music PANORAMA CTRL: Seleccione PANORAMA ON para añadir un efecto de sonido envolvente con imagen de pared lateral. Para cancelarlo, seleccione PANORAMA OFF. 3 Ajuste el nivel de salida del altavoz ( 10 db a +10 db). Para el altavoz delantero izquierdo: Pulse FRONT L, y luego LEVEL +/. Para el altavoz central: Pulse CENTER, y luego LEVEL +/. Para el altavoz delantero derecho: Pulse FRONT R, y luego LEVEL +/. Para el altavoz surround derecho: Pulse SURR R, y luego LEVEL +/. Para el altavoz surround izquierdo: Pulse SURR L, y luego LEVEL +/. Para el subwoofer: Pulse SUBWFR, y luego LEVEL +/. Nota: Al pulsar LEVEL +/ una vez, el nivel actual para el altavoz seleccionado aparece en la pantalla, y el tono de prueba sale del altavoz seleccionado. Si no se realiza ningún ajuste durante unos 4 segundos, se cancela el modo de ajuste para el altavoz seleccionado. 4 Pulse de nuevo TEST para detener el tono de prueba. Para ajustar el nivel de efecto: 1 Pulse SOUND. Las 10 teclas se activan para los ajustes de sonido. 2 Pulse repetidamente EFFECT para seleccionar el nivel de efecto (EFFECT 1 a EFFECT 5). La indicación de fuente se restaura aproximadamente 4 segundos después del ajuste. 24

67 Uso de los modos Surround Esta unidad activa automáticamente diversos modos Surround. Las configuraciones y los ajustes básicos almacenados (consulte las páginas 18 a 24) se aplican automáticamente. Reproduciendo el ambiente de un teatro Presentando los modos Surround En una sala de cine, los numerosos altavoces localizados en las paredes reproducen impresionantes sonidos multi-surround, para que lleguen al oyente desde múltiples direcciones. Este gran número de altavoces hace posible expresar la localización y el movimiento del sonido. Los modos Surround incorporados a este receptor pueden crear prácticamente los mismos sonidos surround que los de una auténtica sala de cine sólo con un número limitado de altavoces. Dolby Digital* 1 Dolby Digital es un método de compresión de señal digital, desarrollado por Dolby Laboratories. Permite la codificación y decodificación multicanal (1ch hasta 5,1ch). Cuando se detecta la señal Dolby Digital a través de la entrada digital, el indicador se enciende en la pantalla. Dolby Digital 5.1CH El método de codificación Dolby Digital 5.1CH (DOLBY DIGITAL) graba y comprime digitalmente el canal delantero izquierdo, el canal delantero derecho, el canal central, el canal Surround izquierdo, el canal Surround derecho, y las señales del canal LFE (total de 6 canales, pero el canal LFE se cuenta como canal 0,1. De ahí su denominación de 5,1 canales). Dolby Digital brinda sonidos Surround estereofónicos, y establece la frecuencia de corte de los agudos Surround a 20 khz, frente a la de 7 khz para Dolby Pro Logic. Esto permite ampliar la imagen del sonido e incrementar la sensación de estar allí, de una manera mucho más intensa que Dolby Pro Logic. Otro formato de codificación surround digital introducido por Dolby Laboratories es Dolby Digital EX, que añade terceros canales surround, denominados surround back (surround trasero). Al compararse con el Dolby Digital 5.1CH convencional, estos nuevos canales surround traseros pueden reproducir movimientos más detallados detrás de usted mientras está viendo el software de vídeo. Asimismo, la localización del sonido surround se volverá más estable. Podrá utilizar Virtual Surround Back (consulte la página 22) cuando reproduce el software Dolby Digital EX. Esta función crea un magnífico efecto surround detrás de usted, como si estuvieran conectados los altavoces surround traseros. Español Altavoz delantero izquierdo (L) Altavoz central (C) Subwoofer Altavoz delantero derecho (R) Dolby Pro Logic II Dolby Pro Logic II es un formato de reproducción multicanal para convertir el software de 2 canales a 5 canales (más subwoofer). El método de conversión basado en matriz para Dolby Pro Logic II no tiene limitaciones en cuanto a la frecuencia de corte de los agudos Surround, y brinda un sonido Surround estéreo. Este receptor brinda dos tipos de modos Dolby Pro Logic II Pro Logic II Movie (PLII MOVIE) y Pro Logic II Music (PLII MUSIC). Al activar Dolby Pro Logic II, el indicador PRO LOGIC se enciende en la pantalla. PLII MOVIE: PLII MUSIC: Adecuado para reproducir cualquier software codificado Dolby Surround. Le permite disfrutar de un campo acústico muy similar al creado con sonidos de 5,1 canales discretos. Adecuado para la reproducción de cualquier software estéreo de 2 canales. Utilizando este modo, podrá disfrutar de un campo sonoro amplio y profundo. Altavoz surround izquierdo (LS) Altavoz surround derecho (RS) * 1 Fabricado bajo licencia de Dolby Laboratories. Dolby, Pro Logic y el símbolo con una doble D son marcas registradas de Dolby Laboratories. 25

68 Uso de los modos Surround Español DTS* 2 DTS es otro método de compresión de señal digital, desarrollado por Digital Theater Systems, Inc., que permite la codificación y decodificación multicanal (1ch hasta 6,1ch). Al detectarse la señal DTS a través de la entrada digital, el indicador se enciende en la pantalla. DTS Digital Surround El DTS Digital Surround (DTS SURROUND) es otro formato de audio digital de 5,1 canales discretos disponible para CD, LD y software DVD. Al compararse con Dolby Digital, el formato DTS Digital Surround tiene un régimen de compresión de audio más bajo, permitiendo añadir amplitud y profundidad al sonido reproducido. Como resultado, el DTS Digital Surround ofrece sonidos naturales, sólidos y nítidos. Otro formato de codificación digital multicanal introducido por Digital Theater Systems, Inc. es DTS Extended Surround (DTS-ES). Mejora considerablemente el efecto envolvente en 360 grados y la expresión espacial, añadiendo un tercer canal Surround canal Surround trasero. El DTS-ES incluye dos formatos de señales con diferentes métodos de grabación de la señal Surround DTS-ES Discrete 6.1ch y DTS-ES Matrix 6.1ch. Podrá utilizar Virtual Surround Back (consulte la página 22) cuando se reproduce un software DTS-ES. Esta función crea un magnífico efecto surround detrás de usted, como si estuvieran conectados los altavoces surround traseros. DTS 96/24 En los últimos años, cada vez es mayor el interés por aumentar las velocidades de muestreo, tanto para la grabación como la reproducción en el hogar. Mayores velocidades de muestreo posibilitan una margen de frecuencias más amplio, y profundidades de bit más altas proporcionan un rango dinámico amplio. El DTS 96/24 es un formato de señal digital multicanal (fs 96 khz/ 24 bits) introducido por Digital Theater Systems, Inc., para poder disfrutar de una calidad de sonido superior al CD en el hogar. Al detectarse la señal DTS 96/24, el indicador se enciende. Esto le permitirá disfrutar de un sonido de 5,1 canales de soberbia calidad. Qué es PCM Lineal? Datos de audio digital sin comprimir utilizados para DVDs, CDs y Video CDs. Los DVDs soportan 2 canales con frecuencias de muestreo de 48/96 khz, a una cuantificación de 16/20/24 bits. Por otra parte, los CDs y los Vídeo CDs están limitados a 2 canales con 44,1 khz a 16 bits. Cuando se detecta la señal PCM Lineal, el indicador se enciende. Qué es Dual Mono? Dual Mono puede comprenderse fácilmente al pensar en la difusión bilingüe o el formato MTS (Sonido de Televisión Multicanal) utilizado para los programas de televisión (sin embargo, el formato Dual Mono no es idéntico a estos formatos analógicos). Este formato ha sido adoptado ahora por Dolby Digital, DTS, y otros. Permite grabar separadamente dos canales independientemente (denominados canal principal y canal secundario). Al detectarse la señal Dual Mono, el indicador se enciende. Podrá seleccionar uno u otro canal, según el cual desee escuchar (consulte la página 21). Cuando se utiliza el modo Surround, el sonido se emite a través los altavoces activados que sean requeridos por el modo Surround. Si los altavoces surround o el central se ajusta a NONE en la configuración de los altavoces, las señales de los canales correspondientes se asignan y emiten a través de los altavoces delanteros. Si tanto los altavoces surround como el central se encuentran ajustados a NONE en la configuración de altavoces, se usará el procesado 3D-PHONIC original de JVC (que ha sido desarrollado para crear un efecto surround sólo a través de los altavoces delanteros). El indicador 3D-PHONIC se enciende en la pantalla. Modo 3D Headphone 3D H PHONE Si activa Surround con los altavoces delanteros desactivados, el modo 3D Headphone se activa independientemente del tipo de software reproducido. Aparece 3D H PHONE en la pantalla y los indicadores DSP y H.PHONE también se encienden. * 2 DTS y DTS 96/24 son marcas registradas de Digital Theater Systems, Inc. 26

69 Activación de los modos Surround Los modos Surround disponibles varían dependiendo de las señales entrantes. Para las fuentes analógicas y el software digital de 2 canales, podrá seleccionar uno de los siguientes modos Surround. Cada vez que pulsa SURROUND, los modos Surround cambian de la siguiente manera: Al activar uno de los modos Surround para una fuente se llamarán automáticamente las configuraciones y los ajustes memorizados (consulte las páginas 18 a 24). Activando automáticamente los modos Surround Podrá disfrutar del modo Surround con sólo seleccionar la fuente (con la entrada digital seleccionada para esa fuente). Auto Surround también funciona cuando el modo de entrada cambia de analógico a digital. Para activar Auto Surround, consulte la página 21. PLII MOVIE (Dolby Pro Logic II Movie) PRO LOGIC PLII MUSIC (Dolby Pro Logic II Music) Para el software Dual Mono, podrá seleccionar el canal que desea escuchar. (Consulte la página 21). DUAL MONO Español Activando manualmente los modos Surround Para ajustar el nivel de salida del altavoz, consulte la página 24. Para cancelar el modo Surround Pulse SURROUND/DSP OFF. 1 Seleccione y reproduzca cualquier fuente (excepto DVD MULTI para RX-6042S). Asegúrese de haber seleccionado el modo de entrada analógica o digital. 2 Pulse SURROUND para activar el modo Surround. Para el software digital multicanal Dolby Digital (excepto software de 2 canales y Dual Mono), las señales entrantes se detectan automáticamente y se activa DOLBY DIGITAL. Cuando se reproduce el software Dolby Digital EX o DTS-ES Podrá disfrutar de la reproducción Virtual de 6,1 canales utilizando Virtual Surround Back. Para activar Virtual Surround Back, consulte la página 22. SB VIRTUAL SB Para el software digital multicanal DTS (excepto software de 2 canales y Dual Mono), las señales entrantes se detectan automáticamente y se activa DTS SURROUND. Nota: Cuando se dejen de introducir las señales digitales multicanal Dolby Digital o DTS, se activará PLII MOVIE. 27

70 Uso de los modos DSP Esta unidad activa automáticamente diversos modos DSP. Las configuraciones y los ajustes básicos almacenados (consulte las páginas 18 a 24) se aplican automáticamente. Español Reproducción del campo de sonido El sonido que se escucha en una sala de concierto, un club, etc., consiste en sonido directo y en sonido indirecto: reflexiones iniciales y reflexiones desde atrás. Los sonidos directos llegan al oyente directamente, sin ninguna reflexión. Por otra parte, los sonidos indirectos llegan con un retraso que depende de las distancias del techo y de las paredes. Estos sonidos directos e indirectos son los elementos más importantes de los efectos Surround envolvente acústico. Los modos DSP pueden crear estos elementos importantes, brindándole la sensación de estar allí. Para usar los modos DSP, pulse DSP de manera que los modos DSP cambien de la siguiente manera. El indicador DSP también se enciende en la pantalla. = HALL 1 = HALL 2 = LIVE CLUB = DANCE CLUB = PAVILION = ALL CH STEREO = THEATER 1 = THEATER 2 = MONO FILM = (Vuelta al comienzo) : Adecuado para fuentes de audio : Adecuado para fuentes de vídeo Reflexiones iniciales Reflexiones desde atrás Modos del Procesador Acústico Digital (DAP) Podrá utilizar los modos DAP siguientes para poder reproducir un campo de sonido más acústico en su sala de audición. (Con capacidad de asientos de aproximadamente 2000). Reproduce la sensación espacial de una gran sala en forma de viñedos diseñada principalmente para conciertos de música clásica. (Con capacidad de asientos de aproximadamente 2000). Reproduce la sensación espacial de un club de música en vivo con techo bajo. DANCE CLUB: Reproduce la sensación espacial de un club de rock. PAVILION: Reproduce la sensación espacial de una sala de exhibición con un techo alto. THEATER 1*: Reproduce la sensación espacial de un gran teatro con una capacidad de asientos de aproximadamente 600. THEATER 2*: Reproduce la sensación espacial de un pequeño teatro con una capacidad de asientos de aproximadamente 300. * El decodificador Dolby Pro Logic II incorporado se activa cuando se reproduce una fuente analógica o digital de 2 canales. El indicador PRO LOGIC se enciende. Cuando se utiliza el modo DAP, el sonido se emite a través de todos los altavoces conectados y activados. Si los altavoces surround se encuentran ajustados a NONE en la configuración de altavoces, se usará el procesado 3D-PHONIC original de JVC (que ha sido desarrollado para crear un efecto surround sólo a través de los altavoces delanteros). 71 All Channel Stereo Este modo puede reproducir un campo de sonido estéreo más amplio utilizando todos los altavoces conectados (y activados). Si se ajustan los altavoces Surround a NONE, no se podrá seleccionar ALL CH STEREO. Activación de los modos DSP La activación de los modos DSP para una fuente hará que se llamen automáticamente las configuraciones y los ajustes memorizados (consulte las páginas 18 a 24). Sonido reproducido mediante estéreo normal Español 1 Seleccione y reproduzca cualquier fuente (excepto DVD MULTI para RX-6042S). 2 Pulse DSP repetidamente hasta que el modo DSP deseado aparezca en la pantalla. Cada vez que pulsa el botón, los modos DSP cambian de la siguiente manera: DSP Sonido reproducido mediante el modo All Channel Stereo = HALL 1 = HALL 2 = LIVE CLUB = DANCE CLUB = PAVILION = ALL CH STEREO = THEATER 1 = THEATER 2 = MONO FILM = (Vuelta al comienzo) Nota: Si los altavoces surround se ajustan a NONE, el procesamiento 3D-PHONIC será aplicado a los modos DSP (el indicador 3D- PHONIC también se enciende). Para ajustar el nivel de efecto (excepto All Channel Stereo), consulte la página 24. Mono Film Este modo se puede utilizar para poder reproducir un campo de sonido más acústico en su sala de audición mientras mira un software de vídeo con sonido monofónico (señales analógicas y digitales de 2 canales). Se añadirá el efecto surround, lográndose mejorar la localización de sonido de las palabras pronunciadas por los actores. Este modo no se puede utilizar para las señales digitales multicanal. Para cancelar los modos DSP Pulse SURROUND/DSP OFF. Cuando se utiliza MONO FILM el sonido se emite a través de todos los altavoces conectados y activados. Si los altavoces surround se encuentran ajustados a NONE en la configuración de los altavoces, se usará el procesado 3D-PHONIC original de JVC (que ha sido desarrollado para crear un efecto surround sólo a través de los altavoces delanteros). El indicador 3D-PHONIC se enciende en la pantalla. Si las señales entrantes cambian de señal digital de 2 canales otro tipo de señal digital, MONO FILM se cancela y se activa un modo Surround apropiado. 29
