3 MESSAGE FOR LENTEN CAMPAIGN 2017 We ve only just begun, it seems, to touch once again the essentials of our Gospel call to be Merciful like the Father. The call of Pope Francis in is still music to our ears, The time has come for the Church to take up the joyful call to mercy once more. It is time to return to the basics and to bear the weaknesses and struggles of our brothers and sisters. Though the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy has officially ended, it is hoped that the loving mercy of the Father has found its place rooted and grounded in the hearts, minds and actions of all Christians. We return time and again to the wellspring of our faith, which is a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ, or at least an openness to letting him encounter them; I ask all of you to do this unfailingly each day. No one should think that this invitation is not meant for him or her, since no one is excluded from the joy brought by the Lord. (The Joy of the Gospel/Evangelii Gaudium, #3). This renewed personal encounter with God s merciful love nourishes, transforms, heals and restores us. This encounter invites us to become the same loving mercy of God to others, sharing the same mercy we have experienced and grows into life-giving friendship. We are liberated from our narrowness and self-absorption (EG # 8) in order to become fully human, to allow the life of the merciful Father to flow beyond ourselves to all our brothers and sisters in need. For if we have received the love which restores meaning to our lives, how can we fail to share that love with others? (EG #8). Therefore, how can we look for ways to continue witnessing to the mercy and compassion of the Father shown to us in Jesus Christ? How can we allow the life of mercy to flow in us and through us towards others in order to bear the weaknesses and struggles of our brothers and sisters? The theme of Lent 2017 is Following the Way of Christ. This year we have chosen as our Action Focus, Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Being merciful is the radical and demanding way of Christ that all the followers of Christ are invited to embrace as the essential way of life. The Beatitudes outlines for us the foundation of our missionary discipleship. Jesus gives us the values and attitudes needed to contemplate the life and vision of God. Jesus strives to share with us this calling to be the community of the Kingdom, the community that follows the way of Christ to the Father. The disciples are called blessed because God has searched for them and brought them into friendship with Jesus and welcomed them into His Kingdom. They are invited to catch this vision, to have a sense of this life that God wants to share with His people and to be able to lovingly live it even amidst suffering violence and hostility. The way of Christ is opposed to the ways of the world and yet God s vision will triumph in the end (!) through the power and fidelity of God. In other words, through our Lenten observances, we are invited to shed or to strip ourselves more and more from our self-interest, self-serving and self-absorbing (through praying, fasting and almsgiving) values and attitudes in order to put on the values and attitudes of Christ. We are called to actively work for peace, to make present the life and vision of God by upholding justice for all our brothers and sisters to bear the weaknesses and struggles of our brothers and sisters especially the last, the least, the lost and the littlest including through our care for our common home (cf. Laudato Si). We have chosen to adopt and adapt the Jubilee Year logo as our Lenten Campaign logo. It captures the vision merged pair of eyes of sharing in the life of Christ who carries all of our weaknesses and struggles with tenderness. He invites each one of us to do the same for our brothers and sisters. We are rooted and grounded in Jesus Christ, firmly held by him, amidst all the sufferings brought about by the opposing self-serving values and attitudes of the world. Pope Francis reiterates this pastoral call, I continue to say that today the revolution is that of tenderness, because from here derives justice and everything else. How can we as a community look for ways to be courageous in showing mercy like Christ who embraces us with His tender and merciful love? To live mercy beyond the Year of Mercy how can we courageously search for ways to be peacemakers bringing about a just world Fr. 4 INTRODUCTION ABOUT THE LENTEN CAMPAIGN The Lenten Campaign endeavour is a faith-based programme of the Catholic Church conducted during the annual liturgical season of Lent. The Campaign is aimed at actively encouraging the faithful to be fully engaged in the three key Christian practices of prayer (Mt. 6:6), fasting (Mt. 6:17) and almsgiving (Mt. 6:2). The desired outcome of these focussed Lenten practices is conversion, renewal and transformation of the individual, family and community: Do not model yourselves on the behaviour of the world around you, but let your behaviour change, modelled by your new mind. This is the only way to discover the will of God and know what is good, what it is that God wants, what is the perfect thing to do. (Romans 12:2) The vision of the Lenten Campaign is a Catholic community who are active and responsible co-operators of the Kingdom of God; the mission of the Campaign is to actively and appropriately promote the spiritual observance of Lent through conscientious reflections, informed decisions and purposeful actions that result in further and improved renewal of the vocation of the individual Catholic and the Catholic community. In the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur, the Lenten Campaign programme, which is founded on the social teachings of the Catholic Church, is conducted and organised by the Office for Human Development (AOHD). ABOUT THE LENTEN THEME For 2017, the theme of the Lenten Campaign is FOLLOWING the WAY of CHRIST, and the accompanying action focus is Upholding Justice and Peace in the Community. This theme and action focus continue and extend the emphasis on Mercy and Compassion initiated in 2016 as part of the Jubilee Year of Mercy. ABOUT LENTEN RESOURCES Lenten Campaign 2017 will be supported with appropriate and easy-to-use resources, such as printed materials, video programme and presentation slides for use in parishes, BECs and Church agencies. In addition, the Campaign will also actively promote awareness, education and advocacy through the social media, and be regularly disseminated on social networks so that the faithful would participate more effectively through multiple media platforms. The Lenten Campaign 2017 Kit has been specially prepared with materials and resources for Catholics in three categories: catechism students, youth groups and adult parishioners. These exercises and activities in the Kit aimed at awareness and renewal are intended to be undertaken individually and/or in groups as appropriate. Lenten Campaign 2017 will be conducted in parishes, and also undertaken on-line for various participant groups such as Catechumens, Youth, Single Adults, Married Couples, Professionals, Senior Citizens and Migrant Groups. 2

ACTION FOCUS: Upholding Justice and Peace in the Community THEME RATIONALE The theme for Lenten Campaign 2017 is Following the Way of Christ. All our Lenten practices and efforts should be aligned in the direction of becoming more aware of the Way of Christ, and being faithful and committed to the Way of Christ. Jesus has shown us the Way through His life, mission and teaching as seen in the Gospels. Likewise, all our relationships, interactions, involvements and engagements with our family, Church and community must also be influenced and guided by the Way of Christ. The Way of Christ takes priority and precedence over all other methods and approaches in fact, for us Christians, there is no other benchmark to assess and evaluate our actions and activities. Many times, and in varying situations and circumstances, we are inclined to adopt secular methods and policies to make decisions, resolve conflicts, and plan our movements in the social, economic and political spheres. These secular approaches are supposedly easier to deal with, and socially and popularly acceptable. However, the Lenten Campaign theme emphatically reminds us that the Way of Christ is not only the best way it is the only way! And so, our layered linkages with the community BEC, Church, neighbourhood, co-workers, students, public authorities, people in public spaces, etc. become routine and everyday opportunities to show the vital significance and importance of the Way of Christ. During the Season of Lent, and especially thereafter, we are encouraged to walk our talk, and walk the Way of Christ. GOSPEL ANCHOR The Gospel anchor reference for the thematic Action Focus is Matthew 5:9 in which Jesus invites and challenges us to promote Christian justice and peace: Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. ACTION FOCUS In line with the theme, the Action Focus for Lent 2017 is Upholding Justice and Peace in the Community. Justice and Peace are two sides of the same coin justice leads to peace, and peace co-exists with justice. Together, Justice and Peace are vital mechanisms and structures in a society; without these two components, society becomes disordered and disjointed, and people are not at liberty to reach their full potential. The Lenten Action Focus highlights the need to actively work to initiate and uphold justice and peace in all spheres of life: religious, social, political, economic, cultural and environmental. In doing so, Justice and Peace becomes an integral part of our lives as Christians, and a concrete expression of our Christian spirituality. We practice, implement and promote Justice and Peace in all our social dealings and especially when faced with challenges, struggles and obstacles. The Theme and Action Focus assure and strengthen us that Following the Way of Christ through Upholding Justice and Peace in the Community is a vital part of building God s Kingdom. With the aid of the Lenten Campaign, Lent is an appropriate and conducive season to start or improve on the practice of Justice and Peace in the Church and in the community, and thus, we re-commit to Follow the Way of Christ in our relationships in the six main areas of our lives: Personal, Family, BEC, Workplace or School, Community and Nation. 3

6 RATIONALE FOR LENTEN CAMPAIGN LOGO The comforting central image of Jesus carrying a person (who represents each one of us) signifies the focus and process of Lent: we are converted, renewed and transformed when we allow Christ to carry us on our Christian journey. When we journey with Christ, our spiritual security is assured, as shown by His hands firmly holding our hands and feet. Our vision, through the Lenten Campaign, is to build the Kingdom of God, and this vision is symbolised by the merged pair of eyes. By giving us His Vision, Jesus enables us to see with our heart. The three concentric circles, with progressively lighter colours of Lenten purple, remind us of the need for annual and on-going renewal and transformation to become more faithful stewards of the Kingdom. 7 ACTIVITIES SUMMARY & GUIDELINES PARTICIPANT GROUPS The activities, efforts or actions suggested below are intended for the 3 main participant groups: Children (age: 3 to 14), Youth (age: 15 to 29) and Adults (age: 30 and above). SCOPE OF ACTIVITIES The age categories are flexible and indicative only, and not intended to be restrictive. Hence, where appropriate, suggested activities for one group could also be undertaken by another participant group. ALTERNATIVE ACTIVITIES While suggested activities are listed below, leaders are encouraged to modify or creatively adapt the activity to suit the participant groups to make it more relevant and meaningful to them. RESOURCE PERSONS Where necessary or useful, relevant resource persons could be requested to give inputs or to share their experiences. This could be done before the activity starts or at the conclusion of the activity. FLOW OF ACTIVITY The suggested activities below are proposed to be conducted or undertaken through the seven steps below. Step 1: Opening An opening prayer is recommended as the start of the activity. The prayer could be prepared by the leader or spontaneously said by a participant. Step 2: Introduction The leader introduces, explains and discusses Lenten Campaign 2017 using the theme, action focus and logo. If needed, clarifications could be given and initial questions answered. Step 3: Activity After the discussion in Step 2, each participant is encouraged to take part in the proposed activity. Step 4: Engagement To encourage active participation, each participant could be asked to personalise the activity, that is, to bring their own experiences into the activity. In this way, the activity becomes more meaningful and relevant to participants, and participant responses become valuable feedback for the leader. Step 5: Documentation Where possible and appropriate, the activity could be documented through photos (and/or short videos) and a brief written report. The visuals would become an individual and/or group record of the activity, and the report and visuals could also be used in Step 7. Step 6: Recognition To encourage active participation (and possibly to provide incentives), the best participants may be rewarded and recognised by simple certificates or small (inexpensive) tokens of appreciation. Certificates or tokens of appreciation may also be given to all participants in recognition of their efforts. Step 7: Promotion of Activity A brief report (or article) and photos of this activity (and possibly samples of completed activity items) may be displayed on the parish notice board and posted on 5

8 A. CHILDREN A1. PARTICIPANTS The participants (children) in this group could be Catechism Class students. A2. Suggested Activities Colouring & Activity Sheet: The Bible-based Activity Sheet is divided into three sections: (1) Illustrated scenes for children to relate to life; (2) Reading from a Gospel passage; and (3) Cut-out and play picture. Lent Planner: The 40-Day Lent Planner (from Ash Wednesday till Easter), which is a guide to reflection and action, contains illustrated Lenten reminders, good deeds and sacrifices to promote the spirit of Lent. Lenten Action Stickers: In line with the Pope s encyclical on the environment (Laudato Si or Care for Our Common Home ), the stickers encourage and remind participants during the season of Lent to take action and care for the Earth at all times. Theme Prayer: Participants are encouraged to pray frequently and consistently on the Lenten theme Following the Way of Christ. B. YOUTH B1. PARTICIPANTS The participants (youth) in this group could be members of parish youth groups and youth organisations. B2. Suggested Individual Activities Composing Lenten Song: Compose a simple song (on values related to Lent, Gospel and Family) to inspire and motivate the community to follow and practice the spirit of Lent. Song entries that are well written will have the opportunity to be recorded professionally. Lenten Action Stickers: In line with the Pope s encyclical on the environment (Laudato Si or Care for Our Common Home ), the stickers encourage and remind participants during the season of Lent to take action and care for the Earth at all times. Engagement with Children: Visit children s welfare homes and engage with children (including those with special needs). B3. Suggested Group Activities Youth Activities: Join the Compassion Walk and related activities organised by the Archdiocesan Single Adults and Youth Office (ASAYO). PARTICIPANTS The participants in this group could be adults aged 30 and above, and could include BEC members, parishioners, senior citizens, migrants and others. C2. Suggested Individual Activities Environment Checklist Card: In line with the Pope s encyclical on the environment (Laudato Si or Care for Our Common Home ), the Card has a checklist to enable participants to responsibly care for the environment always, especially during the season of Lent. The card, which may be read and kept as a reminder, contains useful website links and tips. It also serves as a handy fan. Financial Contribution: Participants could support needy projects by contributing money through the Lenten Campaign offering envelope. C3. Suggested Group Activities Composing Lenten Song: Compose a simple song (on values related to Lent, Gospel and Family) to inspire and motivate the community to follow and practice the spirit of Lent. Song entries that are well written will have the opportunity to be recorded professionally. Video Enrichment: View, reflect on and discuss the theme video Following the Way of Christ. Neighbourhood Cleaning: Organise gotongroyong to clean and beautify the environment of the neighbourhood. Environment Activities: On a parish level, undertake activities related to Climate Change and the environment, such as Reduce-Reuse- Recycle. Theme Prayer: Hold prayer gatherings on the Lenten theme Following the Way of Christ. Study Day: Organise a programme to understand the importance of the Pope s encyclical on the Environment (Laudato Si or Care for Our Common Home ). Nature Exposure: Using Laudato Si as a guide, organise a nature trip to special locations, such as the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM), to reflect on our relationship with the environment. Support Policies: Introduce and implement a No Styrofoam policy in your parish, practice separating garbage, and collect recyclable items. 6

9 ARCHDIOCESAN OFFICE FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT (AOHD) REPORT 2016 FINANCIAL REPORT This report covers financial year 2016 from January to December. The Lenten Campaign with the theme Merciful Like The Father was successfully implemented, with parishioners donations coming in until November The total amount collected was RM 1, 075, (one million seventy five thousand nine hundred forty nine and forty seven cents only). As usual, this amount is lodged with Catholic Welfare Services (CWS), which in turn, gives AOHD the necessary grants to operate and carry out its activities and projects. The 2016 statement of accounts shows that the grant received from CWS is RM 303, Additional income was received from other donations (See Statement of Accounts for 2016). Therefore, the total income for the year 2016 was RM2, 350, The total expenditure for the year 2016 was RM 1, 563, As in previous year, the Retained Earnings of AOHD and WCH brought forward from 2015 was RM 1, 748, which covers some expenses for the first 9 months of 2016 until the grants and donations for the year are received. OPERATIONAL STRUCTURE Until June 2016, the AOHD team was headed by a Priest Director, supported by an Executive Secretary and a team of full time and part time workers as well as volunteers from parishes. From July 2016, a full-time Priest Director was appointed by the Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur to manage all the operations and activities of AOHD. There are full time coordinators for the various desks, i.e. the Feeding Programme (Carl s Kitchen), Welcome Community Home (for people with HIV/Aids), Migrants and Refugees, Orang Asli concerns (until April 2016), Urban and Rural poor, Special Needs Learning Centres while part-time for the Women s Desk. A new Mental Health Unit was started in the first half of the year with two full-time counsellors at the service of people in need. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Mr Anthony Wee for his years of dedication and service as Executive Secretary of AOHD until June 2016 and Dr Sheila Anne for leading and coordinating the Women s Desk in the service of vulnerable women until July We extend a warm welcome to Rev. Fr. Bernard Hyacinth Arputhasamy S. J. as the new Director of AOHD (since July 2016). We look forward to the further growth of AOHD as the Church s vehicle in the area of Charity, Integral Human Development and Justice and Peace inspired by the PMPC IV. The AOHD team appreciates the continual guidance and support of the Ecclesiastical Assistants Frs Albet Arokiasamy and Terence Thomas, the Board of Management headed by Archbishop Julian Leow, Ms Patirica Lee (Chairperson) and representatives from the various districts of the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur. AOHD ACTIVITIES The activities at both Archdiocesan and Parish level, undertaken by the Parish Integral Human Development Ministries (PIHDMs), were carried out with Christian Love and Dignity for the needy and less fortunate amongst us, regardless of race or religion. The main areas of concern are the Urban/Rural Poor, the Migrants and Refugees, the Women in Need, the Homeless in need of food and shelter, the Special Needs Children and the People Living with HIV Aids, and a special desk assisting the Orang Asli. Furthermore, on-going monthly formation on the Catholic Social Teachings is conducted for Tamil speaking parishioners. We are pleased to report that a new Archdiocesan Mental Health/ Counselling Unit has been set up headed by our resident psychologist, Ms. Diana Jeyabalan together with Ms Joan Ho. Eventually, the Mental Health/Counselling Unit will become an independent ministry due to increasing needs of this service. Apart from this, at least once a month volunteer Catholic doctors give free medical checkup to the needy. At Parish level, the PIHDMs reach out to the peripheries or frontiers where the real needs of people cross our paths and demand a response from us to live the joy of the Gospel. The team in AOHD works closely with the PIHDMs and assists where necessary. Regular exchange of information through formal dialog sessions, formation programmes and the use of social media keep the teams in touch with each other including seeking advice on specific issues concerning vulnerable people. The projects and activities at Parish level is an integral 7

10 part of our Church s thrust in assisting the needy and poor, and no amount of thanks and praise can do justice to the good work being carried out by the many dedicated and committed parishioners in the various PIHDMs. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS As we embark on a new Lenten Campaign Following the Way of Christ, we have been inspired and refreshed by the extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy to be Merciful Like The Father. We hope that the fire of the Spirit continues to burn in our hearts and the hearts of others. We are grateful to many people for journeying with us in It has been a tangible journey of communion of communities touching others in our service to the last, least, lost and littlest. 15 MESEJ SEMPENA KEMPEN PRAPASKA 2017 Seolah-olah baru sahaja kita bermula, namun untuk sekali lagi kita mengimbas kembali panggilan Injil kepada kita untuk Berbelas Kasihan Seperti Bapa. Panggilan dari Bapa Paus Fransiskus pada tahun umpama muzik yang masih mendendangkan irama di telinga, Masanya telah tiba untuk sekali lagi Gereja menghidupkan panggilan sukacita dan belas kasihan. Inilah masanya untuk kita berbalik kepada perkara asas dan menggalas bersama kelemahan serta perjuangan saudara saudari kita. Dengan berakhirnya tahun luarbiasa Tahun Jubili Kerahiman ini, kita mengharapkan agar rahmat belas kasihan Tuhan telah pun memenuhi tempatnya untuk berakar dan bertumbuh di dalam hati, minda dan tindakan semua umat Kristian. Kita menjejak kembali perjalanan ke lubuk iman kita, dimana satu pertemuan peribadi yang diperbaharui oleh Yesus Kristus, atau sekurangkurangnya keterbukaan kita untuk membiarkan Dia menemui kita; Saya meminta agar kalian melakukan ini saban hari tanpa rasa jemu. Tidak ada seorang pun yang layak untuk mengatakan jemputan ini bukanlah untuk dirinya, kerana setiap kita tidak pernah terkecuali untuk merasakan sukacita yang dibawakan oleh Tuhan kita. (The Joy of the Gospel/Evangelii Gaudium, #3). Pertemuan peribadi yang diperbaharui ini menyuburkan lagi cinta kasih dan belas kasihan Tuhan, mengubah, menyembuhkan dan menginsafkan kita. Pertemuan ini mengajak kita untuk saling mengasihi antara sesama seperti mana kasihnya Tuhan kepada semua, untuk berkongsi rahmat yang kita alami dan bertumbuh menjadi hubungan yang hidup. Kita telah dibebaskan dari kesempitan dan sikap mengutamakan diri sendiri (EG # 8) untuk kita menjadi manusia sepenuhnya, untuk membenarkan Bapa yang berbelas kasihan mengalirkan kehidupan menerusi diri kita kepada saudara saudari kita yang memerlukan. Oleh kerana kita telah menerima kasih yang mengembalikan makna kepada kehidupan kita, bagaimana harus kita gagal untuk berkongsi kasih itu dengan orang lain? (EG # 8). Justeru, bagaimana kita boleh mencari jalan untuk terus menyaksikan belas kasihan Tuhan yang ditunjukkan melalui Yesus Kristus? Bagaimana kita dapat membenarkan rahmat kehidupan yang mengalir dalam diri kita dan melalui kita agar turut mengalir kepada orang lain untuk memikul bersama segala kelemahan dan kepayahan saudara saudari kita? Tema Prapaska 2017 ialah Mengikuti Jalan Kristus. Pada tahun ini kita telah dipilih sebagai fokus tindakan, Diberkatilah orang yang membawa damai, kerana mereka akan disebut anak-anak Allah. Bagi semua pengikut Kristus, berbelas kasihan merupakan cara Kristus yang radikal dan mencabar dan mereka diajak untuk mencontohi dan menjadikan sifat dan sikap Yesus sebagai teladan yang penting di dalam kehidupan. Sabda kebahagiaan merupakan misi kerasulan kita. Yesus telah memberikan kita nilai dan sikap yang diperlukan untuk merenung kehidupan sesuai dengan penglihatan-nya. Yesus berusaha untuk berkongsi dan mengundang kita untuk menjadi komuniti di dalam Kerajaan-Nya, komuniti yang mengikuti jalan Kristus kepada Allah Bapa. Murid-murid Yesus disebut diberkati kerana Tuhan sendiri telah memilih mereka dan membawa mereka ke dalam hubungan langsung dengan Yesus sendiri dan mereka juga sangat dialu-alukan ke dalam Kerajaan-Nya. Mereka dijemput untuk berkongsi visi Yesus, merasai kehidupan Yesus yang penuh kasih setia dimana Dia sendiri mahu kongsikan kepada umat-nya, supaya adanya belas kasihan terselit di tengah-tengah keadaan yang mengalami keganasan dan permusuhan. Cara Kristus adalah bertentangan dengan cara dunia tetapi visi Tuhan akan beroleh kemenangan akhirnya (!) Melalui kekuasaan dan kesetiaan Tuhan. Dalam erti kata lain, melalui amalan Prapaska, kita dijemput untuk menyingkirkan sekaligus melucutkan diri daripada bersikap mementingkan diri sendiri, melayani hanya kepada kehendak diri sendiri dan mengutamakan diri sendiri (melalui berdoa, berpuasa dan bersedekah) demi untuk meneladani sikap dan sifat Kristus. Kita dipanggil untuk aktif bekerja memperjuangkan keamanan, untuk menjadikan kehidupan kita serupa dengan gambaran Tuhan dengan menegakkan keadilan untuk semua saudara saudari kita. - menanggung bersama kelemahan dan kepayahan saudara saudari kita terutama yang terakhir, yang paling terpinggir, yang sesat, yang hilang dan yang paling diperkecilkan termasuklah rumah kediaman kita sendiri (rujuk Laudato Si). Kita telah memilih untuk mengguna pakai dan menyesuaikan logo Tahun Jubili sebagai logo Kempen Prapaska kita. Penglihatan visi gabungan sepasang mata - perkongsian kehidupan Kristus yang memikul segala kelemahan dan kesukaran kita dengan penuh kelembutan. Dia menjemput setiap seorang daripada kita untuk melakukan perkara yang sama kepada saudara saudari kita yang lain. Kita berakar serta bertumbuh di dalam Yesus Kristus, dipegang erat oleh-nya, meskipun kita ditenggelami oleh penderitaan yang disebabkan oleh sikap yang mementingkan diri sendiri serta oleh perlakuan dunia kita hari ini. Sekali lagi Bapa Paus Fransiskus mengulangi panggilan pastoral ini, saya tegas mengatakan bahawa revolusi hari ini perlu bersifat kelembutan, kerana dari sifat inilah akan lahir keadilan dan segala-galanya. Bagaimana kita sebagai satu komuniti bergerak bersama untuk tampil berani di dalam menunjukkan belas kasihan seperti Kristus yang memeluk kita dengan kelembutan belas kasihan-nya? Untuk meneruskan hidup berbelas kasihan selepas Tahun Jubili Kerahiman bagaimana dengan beraninya kita untuk terus menjadi pewarta damai kepada dunia kita... Fr. 16 PENGENALAN KEMPEN PRAPASKA Kempen Prapaska merupakan program pembentukan iman oleh gereja Katolik yang akan dijalankan di musim Prapaska dalam tahun liturgy Gereja. Kempen ini bertujuan untuk menggalakkan penglibatan aktif umat beriman di dalam tiga amalan penting semasa menjalani ibadah Prapaska iaitu dengan berdoa (Mat 6:6), berpuasa (Mat 6:17) dan bersedekah (Mat 6:2). Pelaksanaan kempen ini diharap mampu untuk membuahkan penukaran, pembaharuan dan transformasi di kalangan individu, keluarga dan komuniti. Janganlah kamu menjadi serupa dengan dunia ini, tetapi berubahlah oleh pembaharuan budimu, sehingga kamu dapat membedakan manakah kehendak Allah: apa yang baik, yang berkenan kepada Allah dan yang sempurna. (Roma 12:2) Visi Kempen Prapaska adalah untuk membentuk satu komuniti Katolik yang aktif dan sama-sama bertanggungjawab di dalam membangunkan kerajaan Tuhan; manakala misi kempen adalah untuk menggalakkan pemerhatian spiritual secara aktif sepanjang musim Prapaska melalui refleksi yang teliti, keputusan berdasarkan penelitian dan tindakan yang sewajarnya untuk menjurus kepada panggilan pembaharuan dan transformasi di kalangan umat Katolik dan juga komuniti Katolik. Di peringkat Keuskupan Agung Kuala Lumpur, program Kempen Prapaska adalah berlandaskan ajaran sosial gereja Katolik yang akan dianjurkan dan dilaksanakan oleh Office for Human Development (AOHD). TEMA KEMPEN Tema utama Kempen Prapaska tahun 2017 ialah MENGIKUTI JALAN KRISTUS, dengan fokus tindakan Menegakkan Keadilan dan Keamanan di dalam Komuniti. Tema dan fokus tindakan ini akan meneruskan dan melanjutkan tema pada tahun 2016 sebagai sebahagian daripada Tahun Jibili Kerahiman iaitu Kerahiman dan Berbelas Kasihan. SUMBER DAN MATERIAL PRAPASKA Kempen Prapaska 2017 akan disokong dengan sumber yang sesuai dan mesra-pengguna, seperti material bercetak, program video dan slaid powerpoint yang akan digunakan di setiap paroki, Komuniti Kristian Dasar (KKD) dan badan-badan gereja. Sebagai tambahan, kempen ini akan turut mengetengahkan proses pembelajaran dan advokasi melalui media sosial, disebarkan melalui jaringan rangkaian sosial dengan harapan supaya umat beriman dapat melibatkan diri secara aktif dan effektif melalui pelbagai platfom. Kit Kempen Prapaska 2017 telah disediakan khas dan lengkap dengan sumber dan material yang bersesuaian dengan semua peringkat umur umat Katolik. Semua latihan dan aktiviti sebagai misi untuk menyedarkan dan pembaharuan dan juga sesuai diambil secara individu dan/atau secara berkumpulan. Kempen Prapaska 2017 akan dilaksanakan di setiap paroki, dan juga secara atas talian oleh pelbagai kumpulan seperti para katekumen/katekesis, golongan belia, golongan dewasa yang belum berkahwin, mereka yang telah berkahwin, golongan profesional, warga emas dan kumpulan migran. 14

17 KEMPEN PRAPASKA 2017 TEMA: MENGIKUTI JALAN KRISTUS RUJUKAN INJIL: Matius 5:9 Berbahagialah orang yang membawa damai, karena mereka akan disebut anak-anak Allah. FOKUS TINDAKAN: Menegakkan Keadilan dan keamanan di dalam Komuniti RATIONAL TEMA Tema Kempen Prapaska 2017 ialah Mengikuti Jalan Kristus. Tema ini mengajak agar semua umat beriman sedar dan mengamalkan tindakan yang Mengikuti Jalan Kristus, serta setia dan penuh komited Mengikuti Jalan Kristus. Yesus telah menunjukkan Jalan melalui kehidupan Dia sendiri, menerusi misi dan pengajaran- Nya sepertimana yang dinyatakan di dalam Injil. Justeru, hubungan sesama kita, interaksi, penglibatan dan kesatuan kita dengan keluarga, Gereja dan komuniti harus dipengaruhi dan dipimpin dengan cara Mengikuti Jalan Kristus. Mengikuti Jalan Kristus perlu menjadi keutamaan bahkan wajar diutamakan dari segala kaedah dan pendekatan yang lain malahan, bagi kita umat Kristiani, kita tidak memerlukan penanda aras lain untuk menilai segala tindakan dan aktiviti kita. Seringkali di dalam pelbagai keadaan dan situasi, kita cenderung untuk menggunakan kaedah dan pendekatan sekular untuk membuat keputusan, menyelesaikan konflik, merancang pergerakan di dalam aktiviti sosial,ekonomi dan politik. Pendekatan sekular dianggap cara yang terbaik untuk diaplikasikan, malah lebih mudah diterima dan popular. Walaubagaimanapun, secara empatinya Kempen Prapaska mengingatkan kita bahawa Mengikuti Jalan Kristus bukan setakat jalan yang terbaik tetapi ia adalah hanya satu-satunya cara yang terbaik! Hubungan kita dengan pelbagai lapisan di dalam komuniti KKD, Gereja, kejiranan kita, teman sekerja, teman sekelas, pihak berkuasa, serta orang awam, dan sebagainya dengan menjadikan tema ini sebagai rutin harian dan peluang terbaik untuk kita menunjukkan betapa pentingnya Mengikuti Jalan Kristus. Di sepanjang musim Prapaska dan juga selepas musim ini, kita digalakkan untuk cakap dan buat dan terus setia Mengikuti Jalan Kristus. PETIKAN INJIL UTAMA Rujukan utama petikan Injil kepada tema ini dipetik dari Matius 5:9 dimana Yesus sendiri menjemput dan mencabar kita untuk menjadi umat Kristian yang membawa damai dan menegakkan keadilan: Berbahagialah orang yang membawa damai, karena mereka akan disebut anak-anak Allah. FOKUS TINDAKAN Seiring dengan tema, Fokus Tindakan untuk Kempen Prapaska 2017 ialah Menegakkan Keadilan dan Keamanan di dalam Komuniti. Keadilan dan Keamanan adalah satu - keadilan melahirkan keamanan dan keamanan wujud disebabkan adanya keadilan. Keadilan dan Keamanan merupakan struktur dan mekanisme penting di dalam masyarakat; tanpa kedua komponen ini, masyarakat boleh terpecah belah dan tidak bersatu, dan juga tidak mendapat kebebasan penuh untuk menonjolkan potensi sebenar mereka. Fokus Tindakan Kempen Prapaska menumpukan kepada keperluan untuk bekerja secara aktif demi untuk menegakkan keadilan dan keamanan di dalam semua cabang kehidupan: kerohanian, sosial, politik, ekonomi, kebudayaan dan alam sekitar. Dengan berbuat demikian, keadilan dan keamanan akan menjadi sebahagian daripada kehidupan kita sebagai umat Kristiani, sekaligus mengekpreskan secara konkrit kehidupan kerohanian kita. Kita mengamalkan, melaksanakan dan menjunjung Keadilan dan Keamanan di dalam segenap aspek kehidupan - terutama sekali ketika kita berhadapan dengan cabaran, rintangan dan halangan. Tema dan Fokus Tindakan ini mampu menyakinkan dan membuktikan kepada kita bahawa hanya dengan Mengikuti Jalan Kristus kita berupaya Menegakkan Keadilan dan Keamanan dan sekaligus menjadi komponen penting di dalam mendirikan Kerajaan Tuhan. Dengan bantuan Kempen Prapaska Ini, musim Prapaska menjadi masa yang sesuai dan kondusif untuk memulakan dan memperbaiki amalan Keadilan dan Keamanan di dalam Gereja dan juga di dalam komuniti, justeru, kita tetapkan pendirian untuk Mengikuti Jalan Kristus di dalam hubungan kita kepada enam aspek di dalam hidup kita: Peribadi, keluarga, IKD, tempat kerja atau sekolah, komuniti dan juga negara. 15

18 RASIONAL PADA TEMA LOGO KEMPEN PRAPASKA Imej di tengah-tengah logo Yesus mengangkat seseorang menerbitkan rasa selesa (yang mewakili setiap seorang daripada kita) melambangkan proses dan fokus Prapaska: Kita ditukar, diperbaharui dan ditransformasikan apabila kita membenarkan Yesus hadir untuk membawa kita di dalam perjalanan Kristiani kita. Apabila kita berjalan bersama Kristus, keselamatan rohani kita sangat terjamin, sepertimana yang ditunjukkan melalui tangan-nya yang memegang kuat tangan dan kaki kita. Visi kita, melalui Kempen Prapaska ini, adalah untuk membina Kerajaan Bapa, dan visi ini disimbolkan melalui sepasang mata. Dengan memberikan mata-nya, Yesus mengaruniakan kepada kita agar kita dapat melihat melalui mata hati. Tiga pusaran bulatan yang berpusat, dengan warna-warna progresif ringan ungu Prapaska, mengingatkan kita betapa perlunya pembaharuan dan transformasi secara tahunan dan berterusan untuk menjadi pelayan yang setia kepada Kerajaan Tuhan. Sumber dan model pertumbuhan Prapaska ini adalah Yesus sendiri, ini disimbolkan melalui tangan-nya yang disalibkan. 19 RINGKASAN & PANDUAN AKTIVITI KUMPULAN PESERTA Semua aktiviti, usaha dan tindakan yang dicadangkan di bawah dikhususkan kepada tiga kumpulan sasaran: Kanak-kanak (berumur 3-14 tahun), Belia (berumur tahun) dan orang dewasa (berumur 30 tahun ke atas). SKOP AKTIVITI Kategori umur sebenarnya agak fleksibel dan hanya dinyatakan sebagai panduan tetapi tidak tertakluk kepada kumpulan itu sahaja. Oleh itu sekiranya keadaan bersesuaian, aktiviti yang dicadangkan juga boleh dijalankan oleh kumpulan peserta yang lain. AKTIVITI-AKTIVITI ALTERNATIF Meskipun aktiviti-aktiviti telah dirancang, pemimpin kumpulan digalakkan untuk mengolah bentuk aktiviti mengikut kesesuaian dan kreativiti masing-masing untuk menjadikan aktiviti lebih praktikal dan bermakna kepada para peserta. SUMBER RUJUKAN Sekiranya diperlukan, mereka yang berpengalaman dan arif dengan aktiviti-aktiviti yang dicadangkan boleh dirujuk untuk mengongsikan pengalaman mereka. Perkongsian boleh diberikan samaada sebelum memulakan aktiviti ataupun di akhir aktiviti. ALIRAN AKTIVITI Aktiviti-aktiviti yang dicadangkan boleh dilaksanakan melalui tujuh langkah yang berikut: Langkah 1: Doa Pembukaan Doa pembukaan sebelum memulakan aktiviti. Doa boleh disediakan oleh pemimpin kumpulan dan dibacakan oleh salah seorang daripada peserta. Langkah 2: Pengenalan Pemimpin kumpulan memperkenalkan, menerangkan dan membincangkan tema, focus tindakan dan logo Kempen Prapaska Penjelasan lengkap dan sesi jawab boleh diadakan sekiranya diperlukan. Langkah 3: Aktiviti Selepas perbincangan selesai seperti pada langkah 2, setiap peserta boleh mengambil bahagian di dalam aktiviti yang dicadangkan. Langkah 4: Penglibatan Untuk lebih menggiatkan peserta, mereka boleh diberi kebebasan untuk mengolah aktiviti mengikut daya kreativiti masing-masing, iaitu dengan membiarkan mereka membawa pengalaman masing-masing ke dalam aktiviti yang disarankan. Dengan cara sedemikian, aktiviti akan menjadi lebih bermakna dan relevan kepada mereka, dan para peserta mampu untuk memberikan respon yang baik kepada pemimpin mereka. Langkah 5: Dokumentasi Apabila masa dan keadaan bersesuaian, aktiviti-aktiviti boleh didokumentasikan ke dalam bentuk foto (dan/atau video ringkas) dengan laporan singkat dan ringkas. Visual ini boleh menjadi sebahagian daripada aktiviti individu atau berkumpulan, laporan dan visual ini boleh digunakan untuk tujuan seperti di langkah 7. Langkah 6: Penghargaan Bagi menggalakkan penyertaan yang aktif dari kalangan peserta (sebagai insentif), peserta terbaik diberi ganjaran berupa sijil penyertaan ataupun hadiah (dengan harga berpatutan) sebagai lambang penghargaan. Sijil dan token penghargaan boleh juga diberikan kepada semua peserta bagi menghargai usaha mereka. Langkah 7: Laporan Aktiviti Laporan ringkas (atau berbentuk artikel) beserta foto-foto aktiviti (atau hasil sebenar daripada aktiviti yang telah dijalankan) boleh ditampal di papan buletin gereja atau dipos ke LentenCampaign 17

20 A. KANAK-KANAK A1. PESERTA Peserta (kanak-kanak) di dalam kumpulan ini adalah terdiri daripada pelajar-pelajar katekesis. A2. Cadangan Aktiviti Aktiviti Latihan & Mewarna: Aktiviti Latihan berdasarkan Injil dibahagikan kepada tiga bahagian: (1) Ilustrasi bergambar untuk memudahkan kanakkanak kaitkan dengan kehidupan; (2) Bacaan petikan Injil; (3) Gambar watak di dalam Injil untuk dilakonkan. Kalendar Perancangan Prapaska: Berdasarkan 40 hari perancangan Prapaska (bermula dari Rabu Abu sehingga Paska), sebagai panduan renungan dan tindakan susulan, yang turut memuatkan ilustrasi tanda peringatan Prapaska, kebaikan dan pengorbanan bagi menghidupkan semangat Prapaska. Stiker Tindakan Prapaska: Seiring dengan surat pekeliling Bapa Paus mengenai alam sekitar (Laudato Si atau Memelihara (Bumi) Sebagai Rumah Kita Bersama ). Stiker ini bertujuan untuk menyedarkan dan menggalakkan para pelajar untuk mengambil tindakan di dalam kempen memelihara bumi terutama sekali di musim Prapaska. Berdoa berpandukan Tema: Para pelajar digalakkan untuk kerap berdoa secara konsisten berpandukan tema Prapaska Mengikuti Jalan Kristus. B. BELIA B1. PESERTA Peserta (para belia) di dalam kumpulan ini boleh terdiri dari para belia dari paroki masing-masing atau dari mana-mana organisasi. B2. Cadangan Aktiviti Individu Mencipta Lagu Prapaska: Mencipta lagu ringkas (berunsurkan nilai-nilai Prapaska, Injil dan Keluarga) untuk memberi inspirasi dan motivasi kepada komuniti supaya tergerak untuk mengikuti dan mengamalkan semangat Prapaska. Lagu yang ditulis dengan baik diberi peluang untuk dirakam secara professional. Stiker Tindakan Prapaska: Seiring dengan surat pekeliling Bapa Paus mengenai alam sekitar (Laudato Si atau Memelihara (Bumi) Sebagai Rumah Kita Bersama ). C. GOLONGAN DEWASA C1. PESERTA Para peserta di dalam kategori umur 30 tahun keatas, ini termasuklah anggota di dalam KKD, umat di paroki, warga emas, kumpulan migran dan lain-lain yang bersesuaian. Cadangan Aktiviti Individu Kad Senarai Semak Alam Sekitar: Seiring dengan surat pekeliling Bapa Paus mengenai alam sekitar (Laudato Si atau Memelihara (Bumi) Sebagai Rumah Kita Bersama ), kad ini mempunyai senarai semak bagi menggalakkan para peserta mengambil tanggungjawab terhadap alam sekitar, lebih-lebih lagi di musim Prapaska. Kad yang mempunyai senarai laman web dan juga tip berguna menjaga alam sekitar ini boleh dibaca dan dijadikan peringatan. Ia juga boleh berfungsi sebagai kipas tangan. Sumbangan Kewangan: Menyokong projekprojek yang memerlukan dana dengan memberi sumbangan berbentuk kewangan melalui sampul Kempen Prapaska. C3. Cadangan Aktiviti Berkumpulan Mencipta Lagu Prapaska: Mencipta lagu ringkas (berunsurkan nilai-nilai Prapaska, Injil dan Keluarga) untuk memberi inspirasi dan motivasi kepada komuniti supaya tergerak untuk mengikuti dan mengamalkan semangat Prapaska. Lagu yang ditulis dengan baik diberi peluang untuk dirakam secara professional. Video yang Memperkayakan: Menonton, membuat renungan dan membincangkan tema video Mengikuti Jalan Kristus secara berkumpulan. Menceriakan Kawasan Kejiranan: Menganjurkan aktiviti gotong royong untuk membersihkan dan mencantikkan kawasan kejiranan. Aktiviti Alam Sekitar: Berpartisipasi di dalam aktiviti-aktiviti paroki berkenaan dengan Perubahan Iklim dan juga berkenaan alam sekitar seperti mengurangkan-mengguna semula-kitar semula. Berdoa Bersama: Berdoa bersama berpandukan tema Mengikuti Jalan Kristus. Hari Ilmu: Menganjurkan program (untuk mendalami) berkenaan kepentingan Laudato Si (Surat pekeliling rasmi dari Bapa Paus Fransiskus kepada para Uskup yang menyentuh tentang pemuliharaan alam sekitar). Pendedahan Kepada Alam Sekitar: Menganjurkan program lawatan melihat alam semulajadi di tempat-tempat seperti Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) dan membuat refleksi rohani berkenaan alam sekitar. Polisi Sokongan: Memperkenalkan penggunaan tanpa polisterin di paroki masing-masing. 18

29 2017 年四旬期运动的讯息 看来, 我们这才刚开始再次领略我们福音要求的本质 慈悲如同天父 教宗方济各于 2015 至 2016 年发出的吁请仍回荡在耳际 时候到了, 我们应欢欣地重拾慈悲的召叫 应回归根本, 担待我们弟兄姐妹的软弱与挣扎 特别的慈悲禧年已正式划下句点, 但愿天父的仁爱与慈悲已有归处 根植于所有基督徒的内心 精神与行动之中 让我们再次回归信仰的泉源, 那就是 与耶稣基督重新相遇, 或者至少以开放的态度让祂与你们相遇 ; 我也请求你们所有人坚持每天这样做 任何人都没有理由认为这一份邀请对于他或她是无关重要的, 因为主已将喜乐带来了, 人人有分 ( 福音的喜乐 #3) 当我们与天主慈悲的爱重新相遇, 我们将会得到祂的滋养 革新 治愈及重整 这样的相遇, 邀请我们以同样的慈悲去关爱他人, 并且分享我们感受过的同一种慈悲, 以此发展成赋予生命的友谊 如此, 我们才能从狭隘和过度自以为是中释放出来, 成为人上人 ( 福音的喜乐 #8), 并让慈悲天父的生命超越我们自己, 传递给有需要的弟兄姐妹 因为凡谁领受了这赋予生命意义的爱, 怎会不与他人分享呢? 30 引言 四旬期运动简介 天主教会于礼仪年的四旬期期间, 推广以信仰为基础的行动方案, 称为四旬期运动 这运动旨在极力鼓励忠信的教友们, 全心投入于基督徒的三大操练, 即祈祷 ( 玛 6:6) 斋戒 ( 玛 6:17) 与施舍 ( 玛 6:2) 专注于四旬期的操练, 将可使个人 家庭与团体得到皈依 革新以及转化的预期成果 你们不可与此世同化, 反而应以更新的心思变化自己, 为使你们能辨别什么是天主的旨意, 什么是善事, 什么是悦乐天主的事, 什么是成全的事 ( 罗马书 12:2) 四旬期运动的愿景, 就是建构一个活泼 负责任的天主教团体, 以成为天国的合作夥伴 ; 运动的使命, 则是积极而适切地提倡四旬期灵修, 透过省察良心 审慎抉择以及有目的的行动, 进一步更新天主教徒个人, 乃至天主教团体的圣召 吉隆坡总教区的四旬期运动方案, 是由吉隆坡总教区全人发展局 (AOHD), 依循天主教会的社会训导所主催 四旬期主题思想 2017 年的四旬期运动主题为 跟随基督的道路, 其延伸行动侧重 维护团体的正义与和平 这个主题思想及其行动焦点, 实为延伸 2016 慈悲禧年启始时强调的其中一种精神 慈悲和感同身受 四旬期的资源 2017 年四旬期运动的推展, 将适切地辅以各种易于使用的材料, 例如印刷品 录像节目 演示投影片等, 供各个堂区 基信团以及教会机构使用 此外, 我们也将透过社交媒体做教育及宣传工作, 以提高大家对这项运动的认知 这些材料将不时以社交网络发送出去, 好让信众能透过多元的媒体平台, 更有效地参与其中 2017 年四旬期运动的资料夹, 是特别为三大类型的天主教徒, 也就是主日学儿童 青年团体以及成年教友所准备 资料夹内的各类习题以及活动指南, 主要为帮助个人以及 ( 或者 ) 团体, 藉此提高他们的认知并革新自己 2017 年四旬期运动将于各堂区 甚至以连线方式进行, 惠及各个团体组织, 诸如慕道班 青年团 单身成人 已婚夫妻 专业人士 乐龄人士以及外来移民等等 28

31 2017 年四旬期运动 主题 : 跟随基督的道路 福音出处 : 玛窦 5:9 缔造和平的人是有福的, 因为他们要称为天主的子女 行动焦点 : 维护团体的正义与和平 主题原则 2017 年四旬期运动的主题为 跟随基督的道路 四旬期期间, 我们的操练以及努力的方向, 都应该整齐划一起来, 除了要更加明了基督的道路, 也要更加忠信地遵循祂的道路 一如福音所记载的那样, 基督以祂的一生 使命与教导, 给我们指出了一条道路 同样, 我们所有的人际关系, 包括与家人 教会以及团体的互动往来, 都应该以基督的道路为取向 ( 即按照基督的方式进行 ) 基督的道路应该凌驾于所有其他的方式以及办法之上 事实上, 身为基督徒的我们, 除了采纳基督的方式, 再没有其他什么能够评估我们行为举止的衡量基准了 很多时候, 在各种情境和环境下, 我们都倾向采纳世俗的方法和策略去做决定 化解纠纷以及规划我们的社会经济及政治地位 这些世俗方法据说更为容易处理, 并为社会所普遍接受 不过, 四旬期运动的主题断然提醒我们, 基督的道路不但是仅有的最佳方法, 也是唯一的出路! 所以, 我们日常接触团体社群, 不论是基信团 教会 邻里 同事 学生 公共当局 公家领域工作者等, 都足以形成许多契机, 供我们去彰显基督的道路有哪些重大意义及重要性 教会鼓励我们, 不仅要在四旬期内, 更要在期后坐言起行, 而且是行走在基督的道路之上 福音支撑 行动焦点主题的福音支撑, 是以玛窦福音 5:9 作为出处, 内容讲述耶稣邀请并挑战我们, 要落力提倡基督徒之间的正义与和平 缔造和平的人是有福的, 因为他们要称为天主的子女 行动焦点 配合其主题,2017 年四旬期的行动焦点是 维护团体的正义与和平 正义与和平实为一体两面 正义导向和平, 而和平则与正义共存 合在一起, 正义与和平就是建构社会的重要机制 ; 缺乏这两个组件, 社会就会变得紊乱而失序, 人们也缺乏自由去发挥他们全部的潜能 四旬期的行动焦点, 凸出积极工作的需要, 以发起并维护宗教 社会 政治 经济 文化与环境等生活层面的正义与和平 唯有如此, 正义与和平才会成为我们基督徒整体生命的一部分, 也具体地表达我们基督徒的灵修 我们在所有社交圈中实践 贯彻并提倡正义与和平, 在面临挑战 挣扎与困境的时候, 愈是如此 这主题与行动焦点给予我们强力的保证 : 跟随基督的道路, 维护团体的正义与和平, 就是建立天国的一大要诀 有了四旬期运动的辅助, 四旬期其实就是有利于教会与团体, 开始或加强并实践正义与和平的适当时节 鉴此, 我们再次承诺, 要在生命中的六大层面 : 个人 家庭 基信团 工作场所或学校 社群及国家, 跟随基督的道路 29
