Fill in the application and order forms at your computer, print and sign. If you prefer, you may also print the form and fill it in by hand 2. Compile complete attachments: Passport with validity of at least 6 months and two blank pages facing each other for the visa; please also add a copy of first page of passport (the one with your photo) Colour photograph (app. 3 x 4 cm or slightly larger), printed on photo-paper. The photo needs to be biometric (frontal view, no smile, bright background). Please stick it on the application form. For business and culture visas: Invitation ( Sample on page 9 of this file) For tourist visa: a) Booking confirmation for your flight to China as well as the return ticket + b) Hotel reservations for each day of your stay in China. The Reservations must include the complete address of the hotel, check-in and check-out date, as well as your name. c) for stays of more than 30 day duration: complete travel plan (best as a table), for stays of more than 60 days (maximum: 90) you will be asked for an interview at the consulate. For visitor s and relative s visas: Private invitation of a person who officially lives in China ( sample page 8 of this file). If the inviting person is a relative, proof of kinship needs to be submitted (birth or /and marriage certificate). Foreigners living in Germany need to submit a copy of their residence permit (valid for at least 180 days more). EU-citizens provide a copy of their proof of residence (Meldebescheinigung) which must not be older than 180 days. 3. 8 Template for a Private Invitation to China The Invitation may either be issued by a Chinese citizen, or by a foreigner living in China. The maximum duration of the stay is either 1 x up to 90 days or 2 x 30 days each. If you can supply documents that prove your kinship relation (i.e. a birth- or marriage certificate), you can also apply for a multiple-entry visa with 60 or 90 days duration per entry. If the person you are related to is a Chinese citizen, you can apply for a visa for one year with multiple entries. In case you are invited by relatives, please be aware that you must provide proof of kinship by submitting birth and/or marriage certificates. It may therefore be easier for you to get invited by a person who is not a relative but just a friend. Letterhead of inviting person (including complete postal address and Tel. The invitation is valid only if copies or the documents of the inviting person are attached to it. These documents are: a.) If the inviting person is a Chinese citizen: Chinese ID-card (front and back side). Please be aware that the inviting person can invite you only to the place where he/she officially lives. b.) If the inviting person is a foreigner living in China: passport (page with his photo, and page with the Residence Permit for China). Only foreigners with a work visa (Z), student visa (X) or long-term F/M-visa (150 days or more) are eligible to issue invitations.

9 Chinese translation upon request! SAMPLE for a business invitation letter [suitable also for conferences, conventions, cultural events, tournaments, etc.] The invitation can either be issued by a Chinese company/institution or by a Chinese subsidiary of a foreign company. The invitation can be written in German, English or Chinese. Usually invitations are written, stamped and signed in China, then scanned and sent to Germany as a PDF. Especially for freelancers it is essential that the invitation letter clarifies that their contribution is part of a clearly defined project and based on a contract. Otherwise visa authorities will insist that they apply for a work visa.
